Many of the things that the U. S. Bishops put into motion are NOT, were NOT a part of Vatican II.

A couple of examples: Communion in the hand was never pushed by Vatican II. Not eating meat on Fridays was never changed by Vatican II. The music and the Novus Ordo that evolved was not recommended by Vatican II.

To my knowledge — this was all the doings of the U. S. Bishops

We had most of those changes in Spain, except for the not eating meat on Fridays (which Spanish Catholics were exempt from, except on Good Friday) and I don’t think the US Bishops were to blame for that!

Here's an interesting tidbit.

Saturday, April 26

Liturgical Color: White

During an address given this day in 1968,
Pope Paul VI stressed the importance of Latin
in the Liturgy. He reaffirmed that Vatican II
did not intend to abandon the use of Latin
when permitting use of the vernacular
in the liturgy.

I don’t doubt that changes have been made that were not required by VII. But those changes took place all over the world, not just in the US. I was glad for the use of the vernacular and receiving communion in the hand, but I found the new music (mostly guitars) disrespectful and downright annoying! The US bishops have made many mistakes, but they cannot be blamed for the liturgy changes in other countries!

**The US bishops have made many mistakes, but they cannot be blamed for the liturgy changes in other countries!**

That’s right, but the local bishops in Spain can answer for their misinterpretations.

Look up eating meat on ALL Fridays....it was not changed by Vatican II.

Canonization by ACCLAIM.

I anticipate a whole slew of new miracles from the Great Bandwagon of the Catholic world. Some people just GOTTA be part of it whether their miracle happened or not. I await with baited breath for the A-mazing things these popes will have done, unbeknownst to the world before this, um, sparked their memory.

...you leave out the devious influence of the the Northern European clergy...particularly Suenens and Scheelbeecx, to say nothing of Hans Kung...Suenens popularied communion in the hand in open dissent of Vatican policy, and of course the rest of the progressives followed suit, until the Holy See caved and allowed it under an indult...you should read Father Wiltgen’s book the Rhine Flows into the Tiber, if you want to get an eyewitness look into the deviousness of the conciliar periti...

...none of which would have happened, of course, had there not been the little matter of an Ecumenical Council convened to address the most pressing issue of, wait for it, making the Church seem more modern...brought to you by none other than Roncalli/John XXIII...

the Novus Ordo that evolved was not recommended by Vatican II.

...you’re jesting, of course...right? What do you think the Instructions Inter Oecumenici and Tres Abhinc Annos were all about...? They purported to carry forth the recommendations from Sacrosanctum Concilium for reform of the Mass...under the kind tutelage of Father Bugnini himself...

The Spanish exemption from not eating meat of Fridays is pre-Vatican II. I remember being very little and my mom telling us that it had something to do with the number of soldiers Spain sent on some Crusade. I don't know if she was right, but everybody I knew ate meat on Fridays... except Good Friday.

I think I've told this before in FR, but once I was spending Holy Week at my grandparent's farm (I loved riding my horse to the services!) and I was dreading my grandma's version of catfish stew. She knew how much I disliked it, so she checked with her parish priest, and bought me a lobster tail instead. I was shocked, how can anybody even think on eating lobster on Good Friday? I ran from the house, jumped on my horse and it was way after dark before I dared to return. I found out there had been people looking for me, my grandma had been crying her eyes out, and the cat had got the lobster. It was a long time before I spent Holy Week with them at the farm again.

Time to preach the Gospel!

evangelium-second declension, neuter

...evangelium-nominative singular
evangelii-genitive singular
evangelio-dative singular
evangelium-accusative singular
evangelio-ablative singular

...I know what the term ‘evangelize’ means...I’m asking if you’re suggesting that I go out and do so to others, or if you’re suggesting that others do so to me...

>>As I posted some days ago: Pope John Paul II’s accomplishments during his tenure and especially leading the fight against communism that ended up with the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the freeing of Easter Europe, is reason enough, for me, for him being declared a saint.<<

By those criteria, Maggie Thatcher and Ronald Reagan should be saints as well.

This is WHY the Church had the Devils Advocate — to ensure that the potential saint (I don’t know offhand the formal name) is seen through the lens of the entirety and not the rush to judgment of those enamored with the candidates.

This should take about a century at the least — not a few years.
