I’ve never seen anything quite like this. And I’ll wager you haven’t either.
From the Christian Post:
SonLight Music Ministry had just finished what sounded like a beautiful rendition of “Be Thou My Vision” when Father Ray Kelly again took the mic at the wedding of Chris and Leah O’Kane. But instead of closing the ceremony as planned, the priest unleashed a big surprise for the couple that’s destined for the pantheon of wedding viral videos.
It’s not a joke or a slip-up, but a performance of epic proportions. A backing track mysteriously begins and Father Kelly launches into a rewritten version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” customized just for the newly married couple.
Just watch.

Before you post negative comments suggesting this is scandalous, keep in mind that the priest offered this up as a gift to the bride and groom AFTER the wedding ceremony. Marriage is a joyous event in the life of a couple. We live in a society that has dismantled the meaning of traditional marriage. How beautiful to see it acknowledges by this priest who happens to have a good voice.

I saw this earlier and if you consider the Pope’s recent words regarding marriage ...it makes a whole lotta’ sense.

Well if we’re talking sacrilegious, at my first wedding the organist played Happy Birthday. I got married on my 21st birthday and at the end of the ceremony the priest introduced the new couple and then asked everyone to join in sing happy birthday. Everybody joined in.

He was the focus and not the married couple. He horned into their wedding. /s

Wow. Me, too.
And I would have had no mascara and red eyes in subsequent wedding photos.

In our parish church I have heard jokes during the homily, laughter, applause, “Happy Birthday” & the Sign of Peace run amok in the aisles. Not to mention the idiot guitarista in black singing folk solos or priests for whom English is a distantly second language.
All that kumbaya is suffocating to say the least.
