The new film "Noah" stars Russell Crowe as the man chosen by God to collect pairs of Earth's animals on a massive ark to save them from a global flood. The film, which opened March 28, is sizing up to be a Biblical blockbuster, replete with star power and stunning special effects. But how realistic is it?
While many people consider the story of Noah's Ark merely an instructive myth or parable about God's punishment for man's wickedness, others believe that the story is historically accurate. To them, Noah's tale describes events that really happened only a few thousand years ago.

The story of Noah’s Ark has similarities to an Ancient Mesopotamian story of around the same time, so it is likely that it has some basis in fact, and was known in the region. As I often say, the Bible is not written as a history textbook. It’s a theological text, so always look out for metaphor and microcosmic visuals. Noah certainly passed down the story to his descendents.
No, there are no coincidences.
I never trust Islamic countries when it comes to archeology. They have a habit of being deceptive and hiding things.
I believe that this refers to the flooding of the Black Sea, probably 5-7000 BC.
the bible account is the true account.
If G_d’s word says it happened, it happened. Good enough for me.

God created the world? OK, I can go with that.
Jesus is the messiah? OK, I can go with that.
Jesus rose from the grave after 3 days? OK, I can go with that.
Noah built an ark??? Awwwwwwww -- go on! I'm not buying the boat thing!!
People who believe, should believe.
What if God said, "I really thought that flood thing would work, but I guess it didn't. What if I tried a drought this time?"

IMO, the flood happened 12,500 years ago. And what we currently call civilization is the last bitter dregs, the lowest point in the Great Cycle. Being that the lowest point was Dec. 21, 2013.
Bookmarked for later....thank you.

I hear people who will grant that the boat was built and the earth was flooded, but then they balk at the idea that all those animals could get along, or not poop, or have enough feed. Seems if God can gather the animals and make the flood, He can control the animals for 6 weeks or so.
Jesus believed it to be true.
If He believed that is good enough reason for me to do likewise.

Yep, Jesus believed it:
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the Ark. Then the Flood came and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:2627)
Who are we to argue.
Simple answer to the question is YES it is true
What I find ironic are people who insist on a literal interpretation, then INSIST that the events are COMPLETELY explainable within natural law. Like accepting a miracle is cheating.
If the flood is taken literally then what is being described is a tremendous miracle. God stepping out from behind His Natural Law, suspended it, completing his plan, then putting it all back like nothing had happened.
I’m open to either the miracle or the story as metaphor explanation. But to pretend it could have all happened within this the normal rules of nature? That’s just silly.
