CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION

PART ONE THE PROFESSION OF FAITH SECTION TWO THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

CHAPTER THREE I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

ARTICLE 9 "I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH"

Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church

963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503

They’re merely ‘adoring’ or ‘veneratin’.

I fully believe all that the Church has declared to be true regarding Mary and her role in the salvation of mankind which began when she said yes to God’s will and became the mother of the Word Incarnate and continues to this day.

Let's try some easy math:

There are approximately 1,200,000,000 Catholics world wide;

perhaps with 800,000,000 awake and 400,000,000 asleep at any one time.

If 1% of the awake ones (8,000,000) 'ask' Mary for help, and it takes, say, 10 seconds to pray..

that means that 80 million seconds worth of prayer are headed Mary's direction every day.

24 hours times 60 minutes times 60 seconds equals...

86,400 seconds per day.

Therefore Mary has to handle approximately 1000 'requests' per second!

Purty good fer someone NOT 'devine'!

They have an excellent claim to be following God’s instructions to His Disciples.

Except for a few, apparently insignificant, individuals...

Except for a few, apparently insignificant, individuals...

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

“Your premise for Mary as the mother of God was Luke 1:43 and Elizabeth’s use of “Lord.” Are you shifting from this?”

Your premise is false. That was never my premise. That was simply a prooftext.

“Please take a look at John 20:28. Let me know if you still think “Lord” kyrios means God:”

In Luke 1:43 it does.

“Your attempt to spin this into a Trinity discussion based on a non scriptural title for Mary is dishonest.”

It’s dishonest to say that I am attempting to “spin this into a Trinity discussion”. I merely make the point that “Trinity” is not in the Bible.

“Your failure to provide scriptural evidence for your doctrine has been noted.”

No, actually it hasn’t. After all, in Luke 1:43, the “Lord” means God - as I have posted REPEATEDLY and showed you that there are Protestants scholars who readily agree with that fact.

Debate about matters of faith is pointless.

I don't know.

I've been in discussions with non-believers that have lead them to salvation. I know just in this past week I've learned a lot more than what I previously did.

For example, I've now read the Didache and have learned a lot about that document. You can check my prior posts regarding my comments on it.

So to conclude, I think these debates/discussions are beneficial.

Examining matters of faith by debating Biblical reference and liturgical expression is like taking the temperature of water with a slide rule. Faith is a personal relationship with God, however it is manifested. And, doesn’t need any further examination. Debate is for the faithless.
