CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION

PART ONE THE PROFESSION OF FAITH SECTION TWO THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

CHAPTER THREE I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

ARTICLE 9 "I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH"

Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church

963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503

This board is for conservatives.

This board is a platform for discussion. I have been a member since 1999, but not with my newer screen name. What is your point?

Conservative does not equal Roman Catholic 9though many of the RC's herein wish to use it as a platform to promote their cult. If you do not know the proper definition of cult, it is a religion with human leaders who are the definers of all their propaganda and liturgy.

As a long time Christian, who took the time to study the Bible in a College setting, I have a good foundation and with the Holy Spirit as my guide, I can find all truth without calling on Rome to help me. The RCC presents a Gospel message at odds for which Christ lived and died, to be resurrected and provide the Holy Spirit as our helper along this pathway to eternity.

YMMV!

Galatians 1: 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Yes, this board is for conservatives, but I don’t see any conservatives calling for death to those who speak whatever is considered heresy against their particular religion. That is not a conservative value.

” For calling the pope the anti-christ and changing the Bible, he should have been executed as a heretic.”

What bloodlust......

It’s alarming to think that there are even today, still Catholics (and certainly there have been more than one) who think that *heretics* (those who disagree with the Catholic church) should be killed.

Clearly the Inquisition and the mentality behind it is not dead.

Thank God for the Constitution of this country which reins in the corrupt institutions that abuse their power to kill people who disagree with them and protects those people from those who would torture and kill them, all for their own good of course, the good of their soul.

Another one for your list, gamecock. More Catholics who think that killing people who disagree with Catholicism is the right thing to do. It may be the Catholic thing to do, but it isn’t the Christian thing to do.

And Catholics wonder why people don’t embrace their religion with open arms...

Where in the New Testament does any CHRISTIAN find a justification for such a punishment. My Bible is clear that God is the arbiter of all things. Nowhere in the New Testament do we see ANY advocation for a violent action against an unbeliever.

Hey, if it's not in the Bible, they always have *sacred tradition* to fall back on. So it's irrelevant if it can't be found in Scripture.

Of course, the Roman Catholic Organization only purports to follow Scripture. They use it where they wish and ignore it at their peril. It is obvious to anyone outside that cult that they are nothing better than the Muslims or any of the other religions that stand against God and advocate for a manmade structure. That is why they have no qualms about killing in the name of their god.

That explains a lot about their attitude towards muslims as found in their CCC.

Your premise for Mary as the mother of God was Luke 1:43 and Elizabeth’s use of “Lord.” Are you shifting from this?

Please take a look at John 20:28. Let me know if you still think “Lord” kyrios means God:

Your last post attributes words or thoughts that are not mine. I have clearly stated Jesus Christ is Truly God and Truly man.

Your attempt to spin this into a Trinity discussion based on a non scriptural title for Mary is dishonest.

Your failure to provide scriptural evidence for your doctrine has been noted.

You may want to look at this conversation a bit before coming on so strong.

No one here on the thread has denied or questioned the Deity of Jesus Christ. Some have accused others of such because they have asked for scriptural evidence for the title mother of God for Mary. It does not exist and thus the opposing Roman Catholic rebut has been if you deny Mary the title of Mother of God you must also deny the Deity of Jesus Christ which is a fallacious and dishonest assertion.

Your flippancy, for a professed Christian, is approaching blasphemy or heresy.

Blasphemy or heresy for what?

Disagreeing with the Catholic church?

Not accepting a man-made title for Mary and preferring to stick with the one the Holy Spirit gave her in Scripture?

Did the Holy Spirit inspire Scripture or not?

Did He refer to her as the mother of Jesus or not?

The the Catholic church come along later and change the title from *mother of Jesus* to *mother of God* or not?

Is it wrong to stick with Scripture or not?

I don’t attempt to justify it; I merely note that in the 16th Century that was the punishment for heresy.

Heresy was punishable by death in the 16th century. End of story. If any man fit the description of a heretic it was the drunkard German monk Luther, who singlehandedly tried to destroy God’s Pilgrim Church on Earth. He called the Pope the anti-christ and tried to change scripture. He has no authority to speak out about anything. Well I guess he was pretty good at picking out the best bottle of ale.

I’m curious as to why you can’t seem to be happy to worship at your own church with like minded people. Instead you seem to have a need to spew venom at fellow christians who follow the Bible and the teachings of Christ.

What you are doing or what someone has convinced you to do is basically making up a convoluted theory out of nothing and trying to use it to discredit the Catholic church.

Don’t you have hobbies? :-)

Why did you have to change your screen name?

I did not make any post to you.I have no need to reply, but I will.

Why do you feel it important to ask? Do you disagree with what I post? Do you want to try and find something out about me that you can apply as a reason to find fault with my post.

I am clear on what I wrote. I feel Roman Catholicism is a group of men pretending they can be gods. They differ from Mormons in that the Mormons openly teach that men can become gods. With the RCC, they only tell you that you cannot be part of God's family unless you are part of their organization, and they can simply excommunicate you if one disagrees. At least that is better than beheading, I guess.

Roman Catholics find it a reason to celebrate when a Protestant decides to join with them Yet, Scripture tells us the angels in heaven celebrate when one finds the truth in Jesus!

Luke 15: 15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Acts 17: 16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. 18 A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to debate with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. 19 Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20 You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.” 21 (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.)

22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. ...

29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

"Some things were made better"...as in the Roman Catholic Church DID change certain teachings and practices such as indulgences as a result of the Reformation. Was that so hard to admit? You can read up on what is called the "Counter Reformation" here.

Wow. Curiosity killed the cat. Did you stop beating your husband?

I feel no explanation is necessary. You feel I need to answer with my reasoning. I think you are just trying to find a reason to discredit the messenger, and I won't play your game.

Your reply is typical of many Roman Catholics who have nothing to answer the Scriptures, but everything to give credit to men in fancy garb, zealously guarding their gold and idols! Find a good portion (in context) from Scripture to answer my post!

Never understood why protestants have such a dislike for the mother of our Lord and savior. Really weird. Muslims honor Mary more than protestants do. Now that’s saying a hell of a lot. Protestants should be ashamed.

YOU should be ashamed for saying something that is untrue about "Protestants". How many times already ON THIS THREAD have we repeated that Mary is honored and praised for her example of faith and more? NOBODY has said they dislike her or think she is anything other than what Scripture says she is. Just because she is not worshiped and adored to the degree many Catholics do, doesn't mean she is dishonored. It's part of being true to the revelation of God in sacred Scripture, nothing more. Get a grip!

It is HATRED that causes people to want to murder others who don’t believe everything they do. Hatred and insecurity about their OWN faith.

Heresy was punishable by death in the 16th century. End of story.

The death sentence for heresy is found no where in the Bible. It was never mandated by Jesus as the way to deal with *heretics* End of story.

If any man fit the description of a heretic it was the drunkard German monk Luther, who singlehandedly tried to destroy God’s Pilgrim Church on Earth.

IF trying to rout out immorality and corruption within the Catholic church is trying to destroy it, then there are some serious problems with Catholicism. I find it inconceivable that anyone would defend what the Roman Catholic church was in those days.

Also, for the record, Luther did not change the Bible. Although that charge has been disproved time and again, every time it's trotted out, it will be refuted.

Show us where He tried to change the Bible and we can compare corrupt translations. The Douay-Rheims can provide PLENTY of material to show what a corrupt translation the D-R is.
