CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION

PART ONE THE PROFESSION OF FAITH SECTION TWO THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

CHAPTER THREE I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

ARTICLE 9 "I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH"

Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church

963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503

Thank you for this additional information for study.

It helps me to answer some of the questions I've had so far, but didn't know where to look for answers. Definitely helpful!

In these discussions, I do understand the need to see clearly and to avoid false prophets, but I don't understand the need to place limits on individual faith and belief by placing limits on the Power, Glory, Grace and Mercy of God with these limits on, or even outright denial of His many Miracles from the beginning to this day and beyond.

Those sorts of limits, doubts and denials seem to come from the other team's captain (whose head I've read gets crushed in the end beneath the Queen of Heaven's heel), as well as do the many, many arguments that simply chase away the childlike wonder we are to have instead.

None for me, thanks. Not the millstone I want to wear. I'd rather go with the childlike wonder and see those signs and miracles for myself.

So now you’re claiming God the Father was in the womb of Mary for 9 months? When did God the Father take on flesh then? We know the Second Person of the Trinity took on flesh and was in Mary’s womb, but you’re saying it was the Father.

Hey, the Catholic church is the one saying that Mary is the mother of GOD.

The Holy Spirit in Scripture calls her *the mother of Jesus*.

Is Mary the “mother of YHWH?”

“Is Mary the “mother of YHWH?””

Was there someone else in the womb of Mary for 9 months besides the Incarnate Word?

Incarnate Word = Jesus.

Therefore Mary is the mother of Jesus, as the Holy Spirit calls her in Scripture.

“Incarnate Word = Jesus.”

Yes.

“Therefore Mary is the mother of Jesus, as the Holy Spirit calls her in Scripture.”

Jesus is God, thus, just as the Holy Spirit says through Elizabeth, Mary is the mother of the Lord. Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is God. Mary is His mother. Mary is the mother of God.

And your own King James Bible......predicted heresy and the Reformation “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” ~ 2 Timothy 4:3-4

Sounds like he was describing the Roman Catholic Church to a tee! And God was behind the Reformation because He ALWAYS keeps a remnant that will not bow the knee to Baal. Here's a question you should answer...did the Roman Catholic Church changed anything because of the Reformation?

The Father has a mother? The Holy Spirit has a mother?

Mary’s quite the gal.

Who knew?

Are you claiming they do?

The Council of Trent reaffirmed the vast majority of Roman Catholic teachings. Some things were made better as a result of the council. Martin Luther had nothing to do with any reforms. For calling the pope the anti-christ and changing the Bible, he should have been executed as a heretic.

Your flippancy, for a professed Christian, is approaching blasphemy or heresy. You were asked a question. Do you confess Jesus as LORD, as God who gave his Name to Moses, yes or no ?

Catholicism does. They call Mary *the mother of God*.

Changing the subject, I see.

The argument that *Mary is the mother of Jesus and Jesus is God therefore Mary is the mother of God*, leads to the following conclusions using the same (for lack of a better term) *logic*:

If Mary is the mother of God and the Father is God, then Mary is the mother of God the Father.

If Mary is the mother of God and the Holy Spirit is God, then Mary is the mother of God the Holy Spirit.

That puts Mary above the Godhead, makes Mary deity, makes her the mother of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, making them created, finite beings with beginning.

It totally messes up all kinds of theology.

Do Catholics EVER think through what they have been spoon fed for their entire lives, cause it sure doesn't look that way with the arguments they use.

I'll stick with agreeing with the Holy Spirit in what He inspired in Scripture. *Mary, the mother of Jesus*.

That way, I KNOW I can't be wrong.

“Catholicism does.”

That’s a complete falsehood - the Catholic Church does not EVER say that Mary is the mother of the Father or the Holy Spirit. The fact that what you said is completely untrue most likely will not stop you from saying it again.

“They call Mary *the mother of God*.”

Because the Incarnate Word is God. Jesus is God. Mary carried and gave birth to Him. He is the Lord - just at the Holy Spirit points out through St. Elizabeth in Luke 1:43.

The penalty for heresy in the 16th century was execution. Decapitation, or burning. Practiced by all religions.

Indeed The Word made flesh was born of virgin blessed Mary.

Amen! Now we are ready to start discussing Daniel 7:13.
