“What’s the deal with Joyce Meyer?”

She’s a woman preacher: a clear violation of God’s Word. Why wouldn’t she just make up stuff when her whole life’s work is based on thumbing her nose at God?

Romans 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

other than what she preaches was heretical in the 1 -3 rd centuries, was still heretical in the sixteenth century and is still heretical today - nothing much wrong that I can see.

I just to enjoy listening to her years ago, a couple of yes ago thought why not.
She is not the same person.
Personally I think many fine people who preach after a time are consumed by their popularity, and it changes them.

Not worth your time.
There are much better options.

Here is the Apostles’ Creed which is said at every Catholic Mass:

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Meyer has strayed from the faith, but it’’s been very profitable.

Your pastor gave you good advice. Check out all preachers according to whether they are proclaiming the Word of God from the Bible.

Joyce Meyer is about Prosperity Gospel, not Christ’s Gospel.

She's a health and wealther, worked for her, she's wealthy.

Never understood why to get a big payout from God, Christians have to send money to the TV preachers instead of their local church.

On the plus side Joyce Meyer Ministries joined the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability in 2009, which requires financial transparency from its members.

http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/celeb/authors/joyce-meyer-net-worth/

“Joyce Meyer is best known as a Christian speaker and author with a net worth estimated to be around $25 Million. In 2005, she ranked #17 on the list of “25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America” by TIME Magazine. In 2003, she and her husband started a television ministry which still airs today, Enjoying Everyday Life.

Pauline Joyce Hutchison as born on June 4, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.. She is currently married to Dave Meyer, with whom she has four children. The couple is currently based outside of St. Louis, Missouri. She and her husband were often involved in controversies pertaining to their excessive and extravagant lifestyle. In addition to several homes which she owns, Meyer reportedly travels via private jet. She responded to the allegations by saying that she doesn’t have to apologize to anyone about her being blessed.”

I have her book ‘Battlefield of the mind’ on my desk right now.

About 7-8 years ago I used this book as the basis for teaching an adult Sunday School class. And - I might add - I worship at a fundie CofC.

Anyway, I cherry-picked out good and relevant points from her book and it was a very good study over 13 weeks.

Point I’m making is... there will always be some high points as well as - dare I say it? - junk theology in many contemporary writings.

Jesus did not have to be forgiven for anything

That is correct. "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" 2 Corinthians 5:21. He endured the Hell folks like us deserved and bought us with His own blood. He alone could do this because He did not inherit the sin nature all of us have from Adam.

He descended from heaven and was incarnate of the Virgin Mary - the Unique Son of God - doing all at God the Father's behest.

You can know a preacher's theology in how they talk about Christ. In this case, hers is very bad.

Jesus went to hell to pay for our sins, was forgiven by God, and was the first born-again man

Old duck-bill mouth shanked on this one.

I could be wrong, but I think I remember that Jesus was/is/and always will be God. I think I learned that in the first grade.

Can anybody give an actual REFERENCE to Joyce saying this??

Sounds to me like somebody just SAID that Joyce said this... often the case for these witch hunts.

Burn her anyway!!!! - Sarcasm.

I thought that everyone knew that Meyers was nothing but a prosperity kook.

She once preached a sermon on how important it is for a woman to keep her stocking seams straight.

She’s always bragging about how wealthy and important she is, and how hard it is to find just the right personal jet.

I watched her program daily for several years and I can honestly say I never heard her preaching a “wealth and health” gospel. What I did hear her preaching, as a woman to women, was submission to our husbands, setting an example as Christians wherever we were and in every circumstance, and studying the Word on our own regularly. The only scripture I heard her get wrong was I Corinthians 11, the scripture about a woman’s headcovering. She said all that meant was a husband is the woman’s covering. I know there are many different interpretations of that scripture, and I still struggle with it. It very clearly states a woman’s hair is her covering and long hair is her glory.

I’m a Catholic, but I also enjoy listening to JM occaisionally and have attended some of her conferences.

And btw-—I also much prefer the “Gospel of prosperity” any day of the week over the current Pope’s socialist bs and the stuff about “social justice” we constantly hear in church every week.

I laugh when Catholics complain about the lavish lifestyles of some very successful Protestant preachers like JM. Has anyone visited the Vatican lately? There is no church around today that is nearly as wealthy and powerful as the Catholic Church. The Pope, the Cardinals, and most bishops live in a royal splendour that would rival that of any monarch.

We still have to do our part too. OSAS is a false doctrine of many non-Catholic believers.

IF you want to do a book review then read the book. Joyce is not my cup of tea, as they say. I need more of what God said and a whole lot less of what any flesh body has to say.
