You don't need a priest, or sacraments, or a "church", or a denomination, or charismatic 'gifts' or baptism or hierarchal permission, sanction nor absolution ...

The OSAS crowd goes a step further. Get saved first, then do whatever you want.

I think you don't understand what happens to a person who truly gets saved...

“Catholics call this waiting place Purgatory, correct?”

Well, people were waiting in the prison of the patriarchs, the bosom of Abraham. I don’t know if Purgatory existed until Christ died since it was a place (really a state of being) empowered by grace.

What's the difference between getting saved and "truly" getting saved?

Why would you trust Matthew who says,

I believe you missed the point, Paul was explaining the Gospel that very few people had access to and actually Quoted very little of it.

We now have the Gospel of Jesus so where would we go to read the Gospel except where it is recorded?

The people who are trying to change it from the Gospel of Jesus to the Gospel of Paul or any one else is the only problem i see.

"I always thought these sins against the Holy Spirit were the unforgivable sins."

Anyone serious has to wonder about that point. How can someone out of one side of their mouth insist that the Holy Spirit cannot and did not protect His Holy Word from the inclusion of error but out of the other side of their mouth insist that the same Holy Spirit who is so weak and imperfect that it failed to protect Scripture unerringly guides their personal understanding of Scripture?

That boils down to saying the imperfect Holy Spirit cannot be a part of the Trinity but that you personally are a perfect judge of Scripture and therefore personally assuming the role of the Holy Spirit. It's clever bait hiding the subtle but absolute elevation of Self above the Holy Spirit while swallowing the lie, ". . . your eyes shall be opened : and you shall be as Gods, knowing good and evil", hook, line, and sinker.

It beats me how anyone can rationalize their claim to accept Jesus Christ as God and Savior leading to their being guided the Holy Spirit and therefore correct in how they interpret His Word while at the same time they insist Holy Spirit is incapable of defending His Word from the inclusion of error but we see that all the time around here. It really shows just how strong the delusion such folks are under is. It's like their incessant bologna about several other things that they insist they're right about without realizing that if they're right then Jesus Christ was not perfect and therefore was not The Lamb of God. A strong delusion, indeed.

By definition a denial of the perfection of the Holy Spirit is a denial that the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity therefore unforgivable because it is a refusal to accept Christ in His entirety. People who claim to be Christian but fall all over one another rushing to state they deny the perfection of the Holy Spirit are people who at the very least are confessing how blind they are, and more often than not people who are deluded and clearly intent on hiding the Gospel under the bushel basket of heresy.

How could such people at the time of their death earnestly repent for sins against the Holy Spirit when they don't believe they ever committed such sins? That's the flip side of a sin against the Holy Spirit being unforgivable. People who commit such sins have so long denied the power of the Holy Spirit that they can't hear the call to repent. They're as comfortable with their denial of the Holy Spirit as suicide bombers are comfortable with Iz Lame.

Satan is a liar who knows which lies cause the most damage when someone accepts them. If he can't sell a whole false religion he'll sell a carefully packaged denial of Christ to people who will accept superficial answers rather than working out their Salvation with fear and trembling. That's exactly where so many cradle Catholics went, off in pursuit of superficial answers as soon as the real depth and beauty of Christianity ceased to be front and center.

And when someone implicates Jesus as unserious in commanding baptism and repentance, as one might marginalize as side bar fluff, by saying there is ONLY ONE WAY (by faith alone) unto salvation, then I too know I am talking to someone who has put their opinion above God’s Word.

They have elected, on their own, to subtract from God’s Word and seem quite proud of having done so.

Jesus apparently did NOT say to him, “Via the ‘church’ or any other folks as well.”

So now you, unlike so many others here, agree with Catholic doctrine?

Good, we've made some progress. Now when some of your comrades in harms blather on incessantly about Mary and everyone else being, "dead, dead, dead", I'm sure you'll be honest enough to step right up and confront them.

I'm looking forward to your assistance in straightening them out on this important point.

In ACTS 2, Peter preaches to the Jews and says...
Act 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

In Mark, Jesus said...

Mar 16:16

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Mar 16:17

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Baptism first, then signs.. HOWEVER, when Peter preached to Cornelius something different happened.

Act 10:43

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Act 10:44

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

So, Cornelius received the Holy Spirit BEFORE he was baptized. Also, look close to the actual words Peter preached when the Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius.

So, was Cornelius saved when he believed or when he was baptized.

If BAPTISM is so important, why did Paul say this!
1Cr 1:17

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

There is NO Baptism command in Paul’s commission to preach to the Gentiles, even though he did.

What Peter preached in ACTS 10:43 is the same as Paul preached to the jailer. Compare.
Act 10:43 (Peter)

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Act 16:31(Paul)

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Sorry, but I don’t read uninformed treatises that bully and never inquire or discuss. I simply pinged you my appreciation of a sacrament, Confession, and compared it with my first hand experience as a protestant.

So, answering some question you may have posed...well,... didn’t read it, see it, or entertain it.

We have absolutely no part in our salvation other than to accept it. Christ is all in all, and His finished work on the cross is what saves is. We can add nothing to it. I depend on God for my salvation, not my feeble efforts.

**The biggest arguments are over what did Jesus actually say?**

How many times does Jesus have to tell you that he is the bread of life, and you still don't believe him?  And you still don't receive the REAL transubstantiated Communion?

John, chapter 6

35* Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.q

48 I am the bread of life.

53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

54 Whoever eats* my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

63It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh* is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

65And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”

But while RCs (if not you) are prone to charge sola fide with preaching a cheap grace, "easy believism" is what Rome most examples, as her faith as manifest by her works, is that even notorious liberal RCs are to be treated as members in life and in death.

The argument about "cheap grace" makes sense only to those who think they will work their way to salvation.

Grace is a gift from God.

You can not buy a gift from someone. They either give it or they don't.
