An initiative to promote the controversial Common Core State Standards in Catholic schools, led by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), has amended a first-grade unit plan to remove three books celebrating families headed by same-sex or divorced couples.
The Common Core Catholic Identity Initiative (CCCII) removed The Family Book by Todd Parr and Who’s in a Family? by Robert Skutch from a recommended first-grade unit plan in English Language Arts after parental protest, according to journalist Mary Jo Anderson writing for Crisis Magazine.
And the Cardinal Newman Society has identified a third book that has been removed from the unit plan, All Kinds of Families by Norma Simon.
Although the CCCII’s original unit plan identified a revision date of July 2012, CCCII quietly removed the three books without acknowledging a new revision date in the current version or announcing the changes to the plan.
A review of The Family Book from the School Library Journal, cited at Amazon.com, describes the many different types of families celebrated in the book: “Some families include stepmoms, stepdads, stepsisters, or stepbrothers; some adopt children. Other families have two moms or two dads, while some children have only one parent.”

I sent five kids to Catholic schools-—I am a product of Catholic education-—and the watering down of curricula was obvious to me when I saw what books my children were using. I didn’t understand WHY they had such low expectations for my children compared to when I was young-—just public school texts which is embedded with Wundtian (godless/Marxist) psychology-—to warp “thinking”——concerned with “Feelings”-—no God-proven Truths.
Teaching “tolerance” as a Virtue—done in Catholic Schools now like in the public schools-—replacing the Cardinal Virtues and the Theological Virtues that Catholics can’t even recognize now they are so ignorant.

It is nothing but operant conditioning-—to make children “feel” good about an evil concept-—so Reason will be eliminated when they grow up-—they “know” by “feeling”. Today, somewhere on the website is an article about a ‘Catholic’ school that had books about homosexual families and their ‘children.’
The parents of the children found the books and after complaining the school removed them. The books should never have been purchased to indoctrinate the small skulls full of mush in the first place.
Like Notre Dame and Georgetown, there is very little education that passes for Roman Catholic to be found anywhere!

The Common Core Standards did not come out for approval until June 2010. How did our State Legislature know what they were in January 2010?? How did the State Board of Education know what they were? In addition at the top of page 3, it talks about our State Longitudinal Data System and other areas it can pull from. What will stop them from incorporating more data points, collecting more personal and family information about students and their families, without their parents’ knowledge or consent?

It is important to know that here in Tennessee, the TN DEPT OF EDUCATION received 3.6 million dollars from Gates, SCORE- Bill Frist/ Jamie Woodson Organization received 1.8 million dollars, and the Fordham Institute was given 6.7 million from Gates and asked to grade Common Core. National PTA received 1 million dollars and Chamber of Commerce has received from Gates to promote Common Core. It is hard to stay objective when you are getting money to promote. Our kids are in Catholic School and they do have SOME of the Common Core curriculum...as to keep with the state standards for high school...but they ‘discard’ the rest, especially the backwards math and marxist reading.
