David Coleman of the College Board? It is to laugh. My high school students routinely find grammatical errors in publications of the College Board.

Catholic schools joined Common Core

That should be a warning to all parents to keep out.

I'm fighting the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)in the Diocese of Knoxville. See #17 for some of the info I'm going to be disseminating in my parish.

Imporant to note, though, that Catholic dioceses which are onboard with CCSS aren't necessarily adopting a CCSS Curriculum, and I undersand that about half of them are already starting to back off because of objections from parents and their own parochial school teachers, many of whom intensely dislike CCSS.

Diocese of Knoxville, for instance, says they are neither "adopting" not "adapting" CCSS, but rather retaining their own Catholic curiculum but integrating SOME CCSS maerials into their program.

Am I satisfied with that? No I am not. But I report this just to encourage those who are fighting CCSS. The Catholic school superintendents are NOT completely sold on CCSS, and WILL respond to intelligent, persistent, reasoned opposition.

We can get rid of this damned thing. Keep on pushing.

My school hasn't adopted Common Core, and won't; many other Catholic schools won't. All parents should be warned to examine the curricula of schools, rather than to keep out. Many schools are still doing their jobs, keeping the light of Western Civ and Christendom alight.

SOME Catholic schools have adopted modified Common Core. These tend to be diocesan/parish schools often led by folks who are little better or more reliable than their public school counterparts.

This does NOT apply to the verrrry Catholic K-12 school run by parents where my wife teaches or many other independent Catholic schools across this land. If Common Core is adopted at that school, listen for the final trumpet.

Since many parish schools are failing by the combination of increasingly exorbitant tuitions and increasing similarity to the ongoing horror that is gummint edjumakashun, expect the growth of home schooling and parent run schools in Catholic and other strongly Christian communities. There are many atheists who home school nowadays including former public school teachers.

Many parochial schools survive only because parents fear unrestrained violent crime in public schools, particularly in the inner cities. Many of those parents are clueless as to religion (and as to what constitutes education) and many are not Catholic or other Christian by belief or by way of life.

Additionally, many bishops lack the guts to honestly evaluate their parochial schools. Even the non-Catholic parents are ill-served by such bishops' moral cowardice.

I know that you seem not likely to ever embrace the Roman Catholic Faith. OTOH, it is important to recognize distinctions within Catholic education and not to paint with too broad a brush.
