Although Jesus did associate with sinners, eating at their houses and so forth, He did so expecting them to change, not that their sins could just go ignored. The Catholic church should take the position that if you’re going to remain pro-abortion, then join another church, not this one.
Undecided as to what I think about the new pope, but it’s worth clicking through to the article to see the very nice pictures of some of the pro-life women and their efforts and some of the moms being helped by them. I’m astonished.
I would have bet my bottom dollar that the Times would NEVER show pro-lifers actually helping women and children, but they do.

It all sounds rather like the prodigal son story. But you can’t preach to the people if they are not in the pews.

I see your point. Yes, let them sit in the pews, but also don’t fail to remind them of the error of their ways. I’m guessing they’ll either change them or soon leave on their own.
He has endorsed a number of social justice positions, I give him the benefit of the doubt but I think he is being unduly influenced by the left.
I still find it very suspicious that the last Pope resigned, the church is a very traditional institution.
The Church is for the healthy and the sick. This woman is complaining that he’s not stroking the healthy, like the Prodigal Son’s other brother.
Francis wants us to fill the churches so they can develop a relationship with Christ. They wont come if you tell them what they are doing is bad (they already know, mostly), but rather if you tell them Jesus loves them and about His mercy...and bring them to the church and let God do the rest.
Hey brother (sister in this case), shut up and welcome your once lost brother home! (And of course, keep doing the great work you’ve been doing, does that REALLY need mentioning, REALLY?)
By the way, I think you’re missing the point of the Prodigal Son. It’s a parable, an analogy. What it represents is someone who falls into sin and becomes lost to God. But at some point he sees the error of his ways and asks God for mercy. Instead of being rejected by God as is his due, however, God welcomes him back with open arms. This is only possible through repentance and acceptance of Christ.
Why should conservative Catholics feel left out?
God has called Pope Francis to be Pope because he is calling Catholics who have fallen away to come back to full faith observance.
Also it would not surprise me if more non-Catholics will look at coming into the Church via RCIA because of the witness to Christ and the Gospel by Pope Francis.
Conservative Catholics should rejoice instead. God Bless Pope Francis.

How often did Jesus preach to those in pews? We need more preaching in the streets, on television, on radio, online, etc.
