The riddle of the 'angel priest': Holy man appeared from nowhere to pray with trapped girl...
Daily Mail ^ | 8/8/13 | James Nye

Pinned inside her mangled Mercedes, seriously injured and fading fast, Katie Lentz turned to her rescuers on the lonely open stretch of Missouri highway and asked them to pray.

Struck head-on by a drunk driver on Sunday morning, emergency workers had been battling for an hour and a half to free Lentz, but to no avail.

But as they joined hands a Catholic priest appeared, even though there were no bystanders and the road was blocked, who offered a prayer and an instruction to the rescuers that they would now be able to free her.

Suddenly, heavy equipment needed to cut through the metal arrived from a nearby town and Lentz was pulled from the wreck in time to be saved - but when they turned to thank the priest, he was gone.

He came up and approached the patient, and offered a prayer,' Chief Raymond Reed told KHQA-TV.'

It was a Catholic priest who had anointing oil with him. A sense of calmness came over her, and it did us as well.

'I can’t be for certain how it was said, but myself and another firefighter, we very plainly heard that we should remain calm, that our tools would now work and that we would get her out of that vehicle.

That is when officers from the neighboring Hannibal Fire Department arrived with their jaws-of-life and Lentz was pulled to safety and put into an air ambulance to hospital.

Turning to thank the guardian angel who had arrived from nowhere at their lowest ebb, the emergency crews could not find him.

The highway had been blocked for a quarter of a mile each end during the hour and a half rescue and no bystanders and parked cars were anywhere near the crash site on Highway 19 near Center.

Full title of article: Holy man appeared from nowhere to pray with trapped girl and rescuers in traffic accident, told them she would be OK and then vanished

I believe in miracles. There was a good article about this story in USA today but it won't let me post it here. Have a blessed day. This story started my day out on a good note, I hope it does for you too.

Sounds similar to the scene from the Robert Duvall movie, “The Apostle”...

A person claiming to be a cousin to the lady in the wreck said they r not Catholic but r strong Christians. But they believe the Angel was dressed in priest clothing cuz that was the only way he would have been allowed close to the scene. This is a comment posted below the article.....

Another report said that none of nearly 70 photos taken at the scene during the rescue show this mysterious priest. Given the publicity about this incident it would seem strange that this priest would not come forward. Perhaps we have seen an angel at work, but without question we have seen the power of prayer.

Wonderful story. Glad to see the British press is picking it up.

We don’t KNOW that this was a miracle. But given all the details, it’s pretty hard to find any other explanation for it.

Probably a case of bilocation. Happened many times with Padre Pio. Happened with a Jesuit, Fr. Louis Wheeler. (He was preaching a retreat in Maryland, and at the same time, entered his sister’s hospital room in New York and anointed her.)

DANGLER ALERT: “Struck head-on by a drunk driver on Sunday morning, emergency workers had been battling for an hour and a half to free Lentz, but to no avail.”

Could this fella appear in the White House and escort the Obamas out and into prison?

Definitely and angel.

Remember the three men that Abraham welcomed in the desert? One was the Lord, and I believe the other two were angels.

This sounds like an angelic intervention; I like the theory that the priest garb was adopted to give him access that might otherwise have been denied.

As for as the priest not showing up in any photos, that reminds me of an opposite case told to me by a former co-worker. She had attended a wedding at which several group photos were taken, when the photos were developed, there was a young girl in the photos who no one knew and who no one could remember having seen.

My bet is that the Priest simply wanted to do God’s work without promoting himself in the process.

In fact, it’s probably generating more news and conversation since he hasn’t come forward.

It takes a miracle for the priest to reach a victim.

See the Boston Bombing, where priests were turned away; http://www.catholicculture.org/commentary/the-city-gates.cfm?id=561

but when they turned to thank the priest, he was gone.

You hear these stories from time to time. The individual that shows up with just the help needed, then he's gone. Something to file away in the mind.

Now all you nabobs of negativism and Chroniclers of the Downfall of America that so infest this site like a disease - read this article very closely. This is the area of the country where I live. KHQA is the local TV channel.

Notice this wasn’t the crowd of bystanders that joined hands to pray, it was the first responders, i.e. govt people and those in authority. America is still here, still beating and breathing, where they say grace and ma’am and respect what is good Maybe not where you’re at, but it is here in the Midwest and the small towns.

Maybe some of you need to move from your maggot infested pukehole to someplace better instead of just bitching about how bad things are.

You miss the point. The roads were blocked. The Priest would have had to WALK to (and from) the crash site....and yet nobody saw him come or go. Somebody would have seen him walking toward or away from the wreck...if he were human. Get it?

Ah, my home town. Worked with the HFD for a few years and they were a great bunch. Next time I’m in Hannibal I’ll pop in the see the local priest. I know him, too. It would be just like him to do something like this.
