Bishops dance to a new tune
World Youth Day 2013, Bishops practicing for event Rio de Janeiro

Unsurprising that evangelical Protestantism is advancing in South America. Protestants do such antics better. These gyrating bishops are not leaders but gormless followers aping youthful behaviour and being simply silly. 27 July, 2013 22:50
“And that is what was going on, ONLY for the glory of God.”
I find nothing unBiblical about dancing to God’s glory.
I find nothing unBiblical about dancing for fun.
I’ve heard it said that those against dancing consider it a vertical expression of a horizontal desire. Sometimes. Mostly fun.
Sometimes I wish people would just lighten up. God made life to enjoy.
Corrected by whom? You? LOL.
Do you consider Pope Francis to be God? If so, I have a golden calf to sell you.
May husband and I sing in a shapenote group which some join in for folkloric, and some for devotional purposes. Probably, for most of us it's unanalyzed, some of both. We say we sing "For God, and for each other."
It may be tuneful. It may be woeful. But is it wrong?
Probably not sinful at least outside of the Mass but possibly undignified at the level of bishop and at any kind of juxtaposition to a Mass, which it was. (Full Disclosure: I have not viewed the actual video and don’t care to).
This sort of thing more suited for kids and teachers at “Mandatory Fun Night” — they really use that term here — when they wrap up the school year’s religious education with a light-hearted party.
When bishops prance like that it makes me scared the pope is going to join in a rainbow parade or something.
Do you see it that way? As opposed to made humans to serve God? Many Blessed Saints' lives full of suffering and misery, for a reason. Can't say the same for many who go around sporting "Life is Good" bumper stickers.
I can see you’ve been through this.
What % of those lines u cite are with OT priests/rabbis?
These men are promoting absurd, vainglorious ‘worship’(albeit they aren’t in a ‘sanctuary’, or are they-was a Novus Ordo rite said here afterward?) whereas Our Lord said His House was one of prayer.
I gotta go find that OT line someday (hey I read the whole OT once!) where it was given the noise of women walking loudly in the Temple had correspondence to strife in Judea.
Then there’s always this which it seems u hang onto but a couple OT lines:
Holy Laughter Chaos

I haven’t posted in FR in religion forum for ages and I’m thinking I remember why.
Knowing what we know about those whose skulls pave the road to hell (St. John Chrysostom), how likely is that?
I don't think it's right, that's for sure.
Do you think "woeful" is OK for any papal event that had months of preparation?
Sorry coming back apparently late here.
pls see I’ve done a post (#27) and hope not to get this into a laughter thread.
Mrs Don-o, steve86 has amply answered but the assembled public dancing is below a bishop’s office. In this context they are demonstrating their ‘office’. That they are corresponding to youth who doubtlessly can’t easily distinguish sensuality from piety can easily be posited.
Their idea of gravity in worship is wrong should they think they have to right ANYTHING by this behavior. They are at least poor examples.
I very much agree w/ steve86 that should this be anything near (in physical place /time) a professed sacred rite it is plainly sinful, a violation of the solemnity demanded with Our Lord saying His House was one of PRAYER.
There ya go! Presumption of guilt!
But my understanding is, this was not a Liturgy. It was some kind of non-liturgical song with gestures, like the kids do at VBS.
Is this a sin?
Really?
Oh, Don Bosco!
Like the Chicken Dance or the Macarena?
Not much comfort there.
If there was a ‘liturgical rite’ following at the same spot it was very sinful, as the Novus Ordo, given the destruction of the sanctuary’s edges (rails) can be taken to be any masonic egalitarian space around its ‘altar’.
I’ve already cited my take on this even if there is no associated ‘liturgical rite’. Why do they have to stoop to these teens... some false humility in ‘first shall be last’ or ‘washing the feet’ motive? Being ‘personal’ rather than part of that dreaded institutional block?
Their minds are G-O-N-E and one can see it in their faces. I wonder how many took their elevation rite seriously...one needs proper intent...can be posited many aren’t bishops for this reason alone.
And then there’s this encyclical by Paul IV
Cum Ex Apostolatus Officio

Don Bosco would have screamed at anything like this surrounding his Oratories which he so labored to establish as repositories of The Most Blessed Sacrament.
Yes, now accept it.
NO! What are you talking about?
Are you trying to act holier-then-thou. That is NOT GOOD.
Agreed, same here.
Dance has been seen in scripture and as you have presented as a form of prayer.
Yet posting number 6 showed the LORD blessing all those examples of prayerful, holy dancing, that is, the scripture passages. Likely in the Lord’s temple.
Plus also Brazil is a very musical culture.
A gentle correcting is in order.
A good and holy life is one that is “balanced”. It is one full of both joys and sorrows, in serving God.
Joy can be holy too.
Please see post number 38. Thank-you.
