pray, be vigilant in our own communities, reach out to help others, seek the truth, and keep faith in God.
God, please have mercy on those injured or killed in the horrible attacks in Boston! Keep the first responders safe, give the medical professionals wisdom, capability, skill to handle the many injuries they will see/treat. Keep the city safe from further harm, and keep the rest of the US safe as well. Be with us, please Lord! AMEN!

My niece ran in the Boston Marathon today. She didn’t finish according to my sister-in-law, so never got near to the finish line. One of those rare circumstances where not being in shape is good for your health.

PRAYER FOR OUR COUNTRY
O my Jesus, You said, "verily I say to you, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you." Behold, in your name I humbly ask our Heavenly Father to protect every man, woman, and child in our great nation from those who want to delete your name from our society, i.e. on our money, in our courts, and in our schools. Protect us from plans of destruction from which our enemies have plotted.
You, Heavenly Father, are the real foundation of our nation. I thank you for making me a citizen of this land of freedom and unlimited opportunity...which are the results of its Christian base.
Please surround and protect us, and our military with Your love and mercy...in Jesus' name.
Amen

For the rest of my life I will never lose that image of the young man in the wheelchair, in shock and with nothing but bone shards left of his lower legs, If I had a million dollars I would give it to him.
I bet that image will be all over the moose limb chat board very soon.

Lord, rest the soul of Thy servants the innocent victims who perished so tragically, and heal the wounds of the wounded, and protect America.
Lord, have mercy on the cruel man or men who perpetrated this.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.

Thank you for the beautiful Orthodox prayer!
As is our custom during the Fifth Week of the Great Fast, we are planning to attend the Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos this Friday at a Greek Orthodox Church.
The beautiful and very powerful Kontakion used in that service speaks of the Most Holy Theotokos as the Protectress of the City—originally Constantinople. It might also be Boston—or Belgrade, or Jerusalem—any beloved city where there is a Christian presence.

Here’s an English version (modern, non-Greek versions omit reference to “Your City”:

I will think of the Boston Marathon when I sing the Kontakion.
By the prayers of the Theotokos, O Lord, save and protect Your City!!!!
