Homosexuality Incompatible With Priesthood
Catholic News Service ^ | 11-24-2010 | John Travis

"Homosexuality is incompatible with the priestly vocation. Otherwise, celibacy itself would lose its meaning as a renunciation. It would be extremely dangerous if celibacy became a sort of pretext for bringing people into the priesthood who don't want to get married anyway," the pope said.

The pope cited a 2005 Vatican document that drew a sharp line against priestly ordination of homosexuals. He said the document emphasized that homosexual candidates cannot become priests because their sexual orientation interferes with "the proper sense of paternity" that belongs to the priesthood.

The pope said it was important to select priestly candidates very carefully,

Can we say that monogamous marriage is the cause of the many adulterous relationships in our society. That chastity is impossible because the sex drive is too strong. We can say such things, but that does not make them true.

So, a homosexual marries a woman to hide his homosexuality. How is that a solution? And before you become a priest, you HAVE to get married? In other words, just get married for the sake of getting married whether or not you even remotely like a person just so you can become a priest? That doesn’t seem “kosher”.

Homosexual men posing as married could be a problem, I admit, but forcing them to go through the trouble of creating and then maintaining the pretense would be in and of itself a large entry barrier that would discourage most (if not all) such pretenders.

Only married men should be ordained, with some exceptions for, say, the monastic orders, with the proviso that such priests should have essentially zero contact with the laity. If they want to be priests, then they need first to out and form a family first. They'll need to deal with how they feel about women and sex and kids and whether they can handle all that, and then after they prove that they can handle that, then, after a long course of study, they could be admitted to holy orders.

Require that, and the Lavender Mafia will be no more within a few decades. And this mortal threat to the life of the Church will be liquidated.

That's an interesting question, but it's quite off topic.

Right now the Church is in a deep crisis due to homosexual priests in Church ranks. This has led inexorably to the formation of a Lavender Mafia that covered for its members over decades that resulted in a sex abuse scandal of unimaginable proportions that is destroying the Church. That is the most immediate problem that must be addressed.

Changing the subject to marriage won't get us closer to the answer.

All sorts of unworthy men become priests, but the worst are those who are unbelievers. Hans Kueng and his 2000 co-signers did nor to undermine the Church than all the gays in the priesthood, who are, after all, merely a sympton.

I tried some other dioceses, but they are all looking for counselors. It is a particularly American deal. We are heavily invested in psychologists... they are becoming de-facto priests for much of the US. It is unfortunate, because many priests who concentrate on pastoral skills have not done well with academics, so a lot of them forgot enough in later years to not recognize when error creeps into their preaching. As the rector at St. Meinrad often says, “The Church has had its fill of stupid priests.”

I have heard from those who studied at the North American College in the Vatican that Europe is all about academics. I would not have a problem there, but I was born in Detroit and I am not leaving the country to be a priest.

In the technical sense, I was “released” rather than “dismissed”. If I was dismissed, I could not apply anywhere else for two years. Since I was released, I had time to search in at least three other dioceses before finishing the semester at St. Meinrad. Still, everyone is looking for a pastoral worker, and I would make a better teacher or systematic theologian, which dioceses do not need anymore because they have sisters who work for peanuts.

These men are fill with the spirit of the age. They filled the vacuum left by the desertion of their calling by men who were perfectly normal sexually, but holding to the same thoughts as the gay priests, that the Church is an earthly institution and that they must control it in order to serve their earthly ends.

Tiger Woods had a sex problem. He went to a clinic and was cured so that he doesn’t think or care about sex anymore. Maybe anyone who aspires to be a priest should be required to go to the clinic and get cured first.

Did you read my post above where applicants for the seminary must undergo a two day pscyhe exam? And days of questioning by the seminary officials?

Tiger Woods will fall again because he is of the world.

We are dealing with spiritual matters here. The seminary professors and guidance counselors know how to weed out the homosexuals.

“So, the number of vocations began to dry up, the seminaries with a wink-and-a-nudge began letting gays in to fill the gap.”

That’s a logical misinterpretation, probably advanced by the same leadership mentioned below. Your own comments attest to the success of the strategy. What follows is from another post in another place, but highly relevant to the discussion at hand. Please take note:

Two former Communists, Bella Dodd and Manning Johnson, spoke on Communist infiltration of the Catholic Church. Dodd, an important Communist party lawyer, teacher and activist, converted to Catholicism in April 1952 under the tutelage of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. Stating that the Communist infiltration was so extensive that in the future “you will not recognize the Catholic Church,” Dodd also asserted that:

“In the 1930’s, we put eleven hundred men into the priesthood in order to destroy the Church from within.”

“Right now they are in the highest places, and they are working to bring about change in order that the Catholic Church will no longer be effective against Communism.”

Manning Johnson, a former Communist Party official and author of “Color, Communism and Common Sense” testified in 1953 to the House un-American Activities Committee regarding the infiltration of the Catholic Church:

“Once the tactic of infiltration of religious organizations was set by the Kremlin ... the Communists discovered that the destruction of religion could proceed much faster through infiltration of the (Catholic) Church by Communists operating within the Church itself. The Communist leadership in the United States realized that the infiltration tactic in this country would have to adapt itself to American conditions (Europe also had its cells) and the religious make-up peculiar to this country. In the earliest stages it was determined that with only small forces available to them, it would be necessary to concentrate Communist agents in the seminaries. The practical conclusion drawn by the Red leaders was that these institutions would make it possible for a small Communist minority to influence the ideology of future clergymen in the paths conducive to Communist purposes This policy of infiltrating seminaries was successful beyond even our communist expectations.”

Were priests to give up on chastity, they would just be ordinary men.

From the point of view of the many victims of priestly sex abuse, having "just an ordinary man" as a parish priest might be quite an attractive alternative to what they got.

Do you agree?

I just realized that you have forgotten the immense importance of the Sacrament of Holy Orders. There are three steps to it: Deacon, Priest, Episcopate/Bishop.

Ok, we all understand that gay men aren't supposed to be ordained. But they have been and are being ordained, right?

WRONG. Those heterosexuals suffering from the homosexual mental disorder (there are no 'gay' beings) are no longer being considered -they are justly discriminated against.

I think you should do some research -you seem heavy on opinion and light on facts.

Please explain. How else can the order to remove all gays from the ranks of the clergy be implemented in reality. Who will carry out that order? The hierarchy as it is now constituted?

Before you can accept truth you must FIRST abandon the leftist propaganda you faithfully believe. There are NO 'gay' beings. The only differentiators between the disordered homosexual sex practitioners and normal heterosexuals is the SEX they choose to engage in. Married men can just as easily choose to engage in homosexual sex as any men can -they as well can sexually abuse children or have sex with goats.

The sex practitioners suffering from the homosexual disorder practice in sinful activity -like any any sin it involves DOING -not BEING.

Gospel Lk 6:36-38

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

“Stop judging and you will not be judged.
Stop condemning and you will not be condemned.
Forgive and you will be forgiven.
Give and gifts will be given to you;
a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing,
will be poured into your lap.
For the measure with which you measure
will in return be measured out to you.”
