Who is the Harlot AND Her Daughters?

Question: In the passages below a harlot symbolizes something. The title on her head is "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." One of the titles is "the mother of harlots". This suggests that there are other harlots that have sprung from this harlot.

This is more curiosity then anything else...but what are opinions on what this represents?

Rev 17:1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters,
Rev 17:2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication."
Rev 17:3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Rev 17:4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.
Rev 17:5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Rev 17:6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
Rev 17:7 But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
Rev 17:8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Rev 17:9 "Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.
Rev 17:10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time.
Rev 17:11 The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition.
Rev 17:12 "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast.
Rev 17:13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.
Rev 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."

Of course you shouldn’t!

Because you can’t!

You’d rather debate grammer than the subject at hand.

Nice self portrait!

But that passage in Thessalonians is about the General Resurrection, with no hint of a “rapture” followed by more history.

Scott Hahn aligns the Book of Revelation with what happens in the Mass — have you read “The Lamb’s Supper”? You mnay want to.

I have reviewed many more than those 20, which only serve as an example. Thus, my assertion, is base upon a much larger sampling, that the “presumption” you assigned as my basis.

What color is the sky in a world where "all" is considered a subset of "sampling"?

It's a moot point.

When any non-Catholic is explaining the book of Revelation some see it as Catholic bashing.

Similar on Mormon threads, post something from the Bible that contradicts the LDS belief system, and it's Mormon bashing.

As a Catholic, well read BTW, I stand with G Larry.
Ecumenism has had its fruits in which some Protestants are significantly through with ‘sticking the goad’ at the Catholic Church either through the Book of Revelation or from the pulpit.

However it seems some Catholics? named above are still stuck in a time-rut from 50 or more years ago and have not realized some or much of this and instead are being abusive towards ‘G Larry’. This is not Christian behavior.

“The obvious truth is that Jim Rob and his religion moderators are Catholic. and as such... this is a pro-Catholic site.”

Ping them and ask them.

“Bash some Mormons also.”

Seems to me like the ones who post the vast majority of the threads critical of the LDS on FR aren’t Catholics. Of the posts on this thread who think the harlot/babylon is the Catholic Church, how many do you think were written by LDS? Everytime I have seen that sort of thing on FR about Catholics, it doesn’t come from LDS but other sorts of nonCatholic Christians.

Thus, it is NOT authored from a Protestant perspective.

The statement was that protestants always use Revelation to attack the Catholic Church. (Post #30: ALL Protestan theorists use Reveleations to continue their attack on the Catholic Church.) Scott Hahn was a protestant convert to catholicism, so obviously he wasn't using Revelation to attack the Catholic Church. Do you suppose as he rowed across the Tiber that he kept muttering to himself, "Rome is the Whore of Babylon, but I'm doing this anyway."?

(What have you authored?) Is there some reason I was supposed to have authored a book on the subject?

This was written about the old Rome.

Are you familiar with the layout of Rome?

The Vatican is not one of the seven hills — they are on the other side of the Tiber. I seem to remember this from one of my Scrpture studies on the book of Revelation.

Typical liberal distraction.

No facts available, so you’ll continue to avoid the point.

Found a title yet, or are you just gonna bitch about the phrasing?

Yes, I make such rash assumptions whenever the negative figures in Revelations are correlated with:
The Pope,
Rome,
The Catholic Church,

What part of conversion do you not understand?

Are you suggesting Scott wrote on Revelations, prior to his conversion, and in those writings, did not attack the Catholic Church?

You said you didn’t hold the view in question, as though you are an example of a Protestant, who doesn’t site a negative Catholic role in Revelations.
My assertion related to AUTHORS, not individuals, so I was wondering what you may have written.

“Have you located a Protestant author that does not bash the Catholic Church in the course of their presentation of Revelations?”

Sure, thats easy. RC Sproul book “What did Jesus say about the endtimes” or something close to that. Im sure you can find it on Amazon. Sproul is a post-millenianlist that doesn’t have a futuristic view of the Vatican. FTR, I am not a post-millenianlist.
