After writing negative articles about the Republican candidate, the managing editor of MormonThink.com says he faces excommunication. Is the Church on a witch hunt?
David Twede, 47, a scientist, novelist, and fifth-generation Mormon, is managing editor of MormonThink.com, an online magazine produced largely by members of the Mormon Church that welcomes scholarly debate about the religions history from both critics and true believers.
A Mormon in good standing, Twede has never been disciplined by Latter Day Saints leadership. But it now appears his days as a Mormon may be numbered because of a series of articles he wrote this past week that were critical of Mitt Romney.
On Sunday, Twede says his bishop, stake president, and two church executives brought him into Florida Mormon church offices in Orlando and interrogated him for nearly an hour about his writings, telling him, "Cease and desist, Brother Twede."
Mormon leaders have scheduled an excommunication "for apostasy" on Sept. 30. A spokesman for the church told The Daily Beast that the church would not be commenting for this story.

In his role as managing editor of MormonThink, Twede wrote an article about Romney last month titled The God of Mitt Romney: Why Do Some Claim Hes Not Christian?
Then last week he posted several stories about the political history of LDS and how the church may or may not influence Romney, as well as a few blog posts that were tongue-in-cheek takes on the church. And that was apparently all it took for church leaders to intervene.

Oh dear Elsie...
On the day when you were born the amgels got together and decided to create a dream come true...
:)
Interesting, would someone point out these MANY mormons who are critical of Romney?
A church cooperation has boundaries: IE if you are critical of lds that’s the boundary.
Apparently so.
This is why you should care.
Christians are to judge the hearts of others, like Christ does. Breakaway Salt Lake sect leaders believe they are sending this man to eternal damnation with their actions...for telling the truth. They are about to gain control of a second third of Government, you should care VERY MUCH.
They will push "Anti-blasphemy" laws under the guise of preventing Islamic terrorism, but it will be tailored to protect the Mormon cult, MARK MY WORDS.
I do not have rules for Salvation, God Himself has laid out the qualification. He is called Jesus Christ.
Your Salvation is up to you, we all have the free will to dwell or not dwell with God in eternity.
‘They’ may try to pass such laws; it has already been done in Canada. But we ought not conflate the vast majority of Mormons with the ruling elite of that religion. I have two doctor friends who are longtime Mormons yet they were completely unaware of most of what blasphemies are recorded in the Journal of Discourses. Their lives are so filled with responsibilities in work and service to LDSinc that they simply have not been exposed to the truth about their ISM. Now, in their sixties, they refuse to delve deeply into that area because they fear losing their faith in the church and perhaps all religious faith, so they just shake their heads and tell me that God is big enough to sort it all out and know the desires of their hearts ... at least one of them I am certin was a Christian before he joined LDSinc. The other, well, I do pray God will sort that one out while still alive.
The FALLEN ones!
HMMMmmm...
"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

I admire men and women who have developed the questing spirit, who are unafraid of new ideas as stepping stones to progress. We should, of course, respect the opinions of others, but we should also be unafraid to dissent if we are informed. Thoughts and expressions compete in the marketplace of thought, and in that competition truth emerges triumphant. Only error fears freedom of expression. . .
This free exchange of ideas is not to be deplored as long as men and women remain humble and teachable. Neither fear of consequence or any kind of coercion should ever be used to secure uniformity of thought in the church. People should express their problems and opinions and be unafraid to think without fear of ill consequences. . . .
We must preserve the freedom of the mind in the church and resist all efforts to suppress it.

Holly_P, that's how we can tell it's you and not your grandpa. ;-)
It's nice to hear from a third-generation Flying Inman. I should let my kids use my account. They are only in high school but they are good at Christian apologetics. They don't know a lot about Mormonism but they know their Bibles and that's all you need to combat Mormonism.
Several years back I was using my grandpas computer, signing out of his account and signing into mine and carefully signing out when I was done.
Then came a day when I failed to sign out, he came along and started posting from my account, all went well until he mentioned his WIFE in a reply.
He thought it was funny then, that someone with a decidedly feminine screen name mentions having a wife.
I can assure you, I have no wife. Husband either for that matter.
Hows that leg? How’s the horse?
You have a great group in that family of yours.
The leg is coming along, the horse is still laughing. Thank you.
Is there a source for post one ?
Since the article was posted with a working link, I must assume you are referring to the caption under LDS President Thomas S. Monson's picture.
The caption was obviously a summary of the gist of the article, combined with LDS teachings concerning the supposed benefits of ascendency to godhood, combined with elements of the following quote by Joseph Smith:
God made Aaron to be the mouthpiece of the children of Israel, and he will make me to be god to you in his stead, and the elders to be mouth for me; and if you don't like it, you must lump it. - Joseph Smith, Jr., Nauvoo, Illinois April, 1844
It is my understanding that Mr. Monson is suffering from Alzheimer's / dementia and thus other officials in LDS Church are issuing statements in his behalf, just like they did for President Ezra Taft Benson. If this is true, the caption obviously could have not come directly from the spiritual leader. Moreover, the Mormon Church is not known for being anywhere near as open and direct as the given statement.
As a result, I had no idea when I posted the article that someone would mistake the caption for an official church response. That was certainly not the case, and I apologize for any confusion that I caused.
