How Do You Keep a Healthy Perspective?
Madmominct

Posted on 07/03/2012 7:33:27 AM PDT by madmominct

Just a question...I find myself getting either furious or depressed about the state of our country. As a Christian, I realize that I need to keep a perspective about these things but it's very difficult. I look at someone like Breitbart, who was in the midst of the struggle and was suddenly taken away, to a new place where presumably, it is all irrelevant. I just wonder how you all manage to keep on an even keel emotionally about all of this. Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!

Turn off the TV. Do not use your computer for anything but email. Read some good books. Spend time in the garden. Spend more time with your family. Do this for 6 months to a year. You will find a new perspective. A healthy one.

As my wife tells me, God is in control. Inside I weep for my children and the future they may likely face, but yes, in the end we don’t fight earthly powers, and we know who wins!

While commendable, your approach is equivalent to burying one’s head in the sand and it only (falsely) makes you feel better for a while. It will not change to outcome of the overall political scene. It will not force believers of freedom to stand up to leeches (Democrats) and for the good in this country.

My approach is to shun and ridicule any Democrat I come to find out is such. They don’t deserve your acquaintance, your friendship, or your comfort or help. They don’t deserve to be hired if you have control over that - they will rob you blind and they will steal your children’s and grandchildren’s futures.

They need to be told why they don’t measure up. They need to be told it often. Next time you see some fat heifer in Walmart in her pajamas buying up $300 worth of expensive meat, junk food and things you can’t afford to buy - go look at the b!tch’s car - likely newer and better than yours - ask her what she does all day besides leeching off you and others.

If she doesn’t get into a brand new Escalade with 22s, then it’s her ‘baby daddy’ sitting out there in his brand new F-150 or Ram waiting on her to bring the beer and cigarettes (I’ve seen this too many times to know it isn’t a fluke).

I apply the 17,000 year rule. Will this problem or its solution make any difference in 17,000 years? If yes, stick to your principles. If no, let it go and find something more important to worry about. It’s all about perspective. It flushes Cher, George Soros, and global warming into the category of a minor eye roll.

For starters, God has a plan. Now we look in a glass darkly, and then face to face--we don't know every twist and turn of His plan, so at some point we have to believe He knows what He is doing and look how we can serve Him. Pray for understanding, be open to the idea that His plan might not coincide with our plans.

When times are tough, walk closer to Him. It makes it just a little easier for Him to carry you when things are really tough.

Keep your sense of humor. There is beauty and joy in much around us, if we take a moment to look. A child's laugh, a flower, a sunset/sunrise, so many things to give a moment's respite from the cares of this world surround us if we look. Giving, not money, but a little of our time or encouragement is a gift that often comes back around.

Thank God for all that goes well in your day, pray, and make your concerns known to Him, and ask Him to help.

I, too am uncertain what our future as a country will be, our economy seems to be teetering on the brink of cataclysm, our media lie to us, our government betrays its sacred trust, those entrusted to uphold the law break it brazenly, and the righteous are persecuted as evil in the press. It seems grim, and the soap sellers of the media amplify that.

But as God looks out for the needs of the birds of the air and the beasts of the field, so will He give us what we need. God provides.

When times are really tough, take joy in knowing those are the times we are often closest to Him. Read The Book and do not despair. We win in the end.

Some believe this is Schoolhouse Earth, where the physical world of our experience is all illusion, something like the Matrix.

Essentially, they say the “reality” you experience is not unlike a dream or a video game, where one scenario leads to the next and the options you have to choose from along the way depend upon your choices and how well you did in the last.

Each scenario is a test or a combination of tests that are designed to test what you’ve learned while teaching you about yourself and what you need to learn or relearn until you understand what you need to know to move on.

When our quarter runs out and we hit 'Game Over', we head back for one on one time with the Ultimate Coach to review.

Where we go next, whether we move to the next level or head back for more of the same, just like in any school, depends upon how we did, whether or not we learned the truth and graduate or head back to next grade in school or fall back and repeat until we’re ready to advance.

While this may be illusion, the individual experience is real and the consequences of our individual choices, thoughts, actions, etc. in this “illusion” are major determiners of that experience.

We do best when we listen to and follow the lessons of our teachers, especially the ultimate Teacher who has shown us the Way and given us a Guiding Light to pass every test.

Learning to hear, learning to see and learning to follow are some of the tests.

I could not disagree with you more, though I do understand your point.

I simply think it is a mistake to allow others to provide context for you, particularly others who have a vested interest in a preferred context.

As I said in my last post, I may not know who Penelope Cruz is, or who is winning on “American Idol” but I understand aspects in ObamaCare such as the “Facility Utilization Rate” and how it affects things like reimbursement for imaging services, and I do because I took the time to research it when I wasn’t watching television.

Personally, I don’t watch television because I find I am susceptible to imagery, and the use of imagery is paramount for television. While I cannot stand Don Henley either personally or ideologically, I found it difficult to find fault with this song of his:

“Dirty Laundry” By Don Henley
*****************************
I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don’t have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em when they’re down
Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em when they’re down
Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em when they’re down
Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you ‘bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
It’s interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You don’t really need to find out what’s going on
You don’t really want to know just how far it’s gone
Just leave well enough love
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em when they’re down
Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em when they’re down

Kick ‘em when they’re up
Kick ‘em when they’re down
Kick ‘em when they’re stiff
Kick ‘em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody’s pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do “The Innuendo”
We can dance and sing
When it’s said and done we haven’t told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
Give us dirty laundry!

Don't believe the hype from either the Dims or the GOP. Realize both are just trying to sell you something that ultimately supports them but not necessarily the country.

I don't think God picks winners or losers in sports or politics. He is only interested in the individual becoming a better person.

Ive been struck throughout my life by how it is the individual who lives a good life, has a good family, and who cares about the little things, is the one who, with others just like him or herself, ultimately accomplishes much more than the politicians.

I cant presume to know what Gods plan is or how I may or may not fit into it nor do I care really, just keep doing what you know is right.

Democracy is wonderful, but consider the end result of Democracy. What is the expected result of 200 million sinners voting? Not good.

Our hope is in heaven. Jesus said we would be persecuted in ALL nations. The USA will not usher in God’s kingdom. Trust in God and look forward to God’s kingdom.

It’s okay to disagree. However, Democrats like silent uninformed Republicans.
