Chariots in Red Sea: 'Irrefutable evidence'

A news report that stunned the world nine years ago about the discovery of possible ancient chariot wheels at the bottom of the Red Sea is suddenly gaining fresh attention with new video claiming “irrefutable evidence” that corroborates the find.

In June 2003, WND interviewed Bible enthusiasts who dove the waters of the Red Sea, alleging they found and photographed parts of chariots that may be the actual remains of the catastrophe brought upon the Egyptian army which pursued the Israelites, according to the Book of Exodus in the Bible.

“I am 99.9 percent sure I picked up a chariot wheel,” said Peter Elmer, a forklift mechanic from Keynsham, England, who made two diving trips to the Gulf of Aqaba branch of the sea. “It was covered in coral.”

“I believe I actually sat in an ancient chariot cab,” he told WND at the time, referring to his time exploring a submerged item in the underwater junkyard. “Without question, it is most definitely the remains of the Egyptian army.”

Now, Michael Rood, a Hebrew-roots teacher, has produced a video proffering evidence Elmer is absolutely correct.

His DVD, titled “The Red Sea Crossing,” documents the work of numerous researchers from the U.S. and overseas who have probed an underwater land bridge between a beachhead at Nuweiba, Egypt, and what is today Saudi Arabia.

“What they found strewn across the bottom of the reed sea has shaken the religious and scientific community,” says Rood. “Cameras, mounted on remote-controlled submarines, revealed coral-encrusted chariot parts, horse and human remains strewn like battlefield wreckage on the bottom of the reed sea.”

He uses the term “reed sea” instead of Red Sea, as that’s the literal translation of the words “yam suph” in Holy Scripture, referring to the body of water God miraculously opened for the

It does sound a bit much, but in 1976 I was SCUBA diving not more than 20 miles from my house, when I found a Mastodon tusk in about 30’ of salt water.

I have now looked at the pic at the link. I am not at all convinced that the axles would still be intact. It looks faux to me.

I think the most logical place is at The Strait of Tiran. I also do not believe Mt Siani is where tradition says it is Sinai Peninsula. GOD called Israel out of Egypt. I believe it is located in Saudi Arabia. B.A.S.E. or The Bible Archaeology, Search & Exploration has likely located the area of the crossing as well as the actual Mt Siani itself. Although Israel did not know the area to where they were headed Moses was no stranger to it. http://www.baseinstitute.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=66

The Hoaxodus marches on.
Rood also explained giant pillars have been found on both sides of the crossing to mark the event. One was discovered eroded on the Egyptian shore by the late American archaeologist Ron Wyatt. Later, another was located on the Arabian side with “the legible remains of ancient paleo-Hebrew inscriptions.”

He says the words for pharaoh, death, Egypt, King Solomon and the sacred name of God, YHWH, are all present on the second pillar.

Either from a much later period, by about 2,400 years; or a very prophetic inscription, even to the script used.

I've snorkeled both at Nuweiba and further South at Sharm el-Sheikh.

What is striking is the lack of reefs at Nuweiba vs. other parts of the Sinai. Crossing would be extremely difficult if not impossible over those reefs, but at Nuweiba it seems possible because of the sandy bottom.

I heard this theory a couple of years ago and I find it extremely interesting.

IDIOT! I teach me arithmatic and teach me arithmaetic, and still I get arithmetic wrong! 3400-2000=1400BC; 1400BC - 1000BC = 400 years.

Never mix BP with BC, or you get BS when you subtract or add.

The oldest shipsreck in the Mediterranean is from about the same time - 1400 B.C. the Late Bronze Age. All that survived were ceramic jars, large copper ingots, gold amulets, some gold rings (but not The One Ring) and a few swords. The wood was long gone. The wreck was quite deep as the divers could only work 20 minutes at a time.

This guy from England is finding 3400 year old chariot wheels in a few feet of water. Come on now.

Off the coast of FL. somewhere? Details please. I suspect is was washed into the salt water area recently, or came from a recently eroded shoreline that has been spilling artifacts into the water for several years. By now there may be a whole Mastadon skeleton laying about. I'd go back. Florida's springs are full of the bones of Mega-Fauna from the last Ice Age, as you well know.

Or maybe they wouldn’t give a crap about plagues, especially when fighting in dry desert air (likely to kill bacteria-which they had limited understanding of, let along that it can come from rotting bodies), I doubt an victorious army would take the time (in most ancient cases) to bury their vanquished.

Why would the chariots be Roman? Do you mean Egyptian?

I am not saying that the chariots definitely ARE the Pharaohs’ however it is distinct possiblity, and at least worth looking into with scientific study. -J.S!

When the Israelites proceeded to cross the path the Lord opened for them, the Egyptian army attempted to follow them with the chariots. The wheels got stuck in the mud and the waters closed back over them. That is what the scriptures tell us. If God can part a sea at just the right place for his people to cross over, why would we question that He would leave enough of the remains for us to find when He wanted us to find them. He tells us that all secrets will be revealed. Why do people try so hard to prove that the Bible is not true?

I thought the same thing- but maybe they found metal parts of horse tack and metal pieces of whatever the humans had. Remains of their stuff...maybe what the author meant but sure is poorly written.

From what I remember about this story it's mostly barnacles.

But the shapes, etc. point to the possibility of chariots and wheels.

Of course. Thanks for correcting me. Apparently the one brain cell I have left is having a malfunction.

Thank you for the response. What you say may be true. I didn't live back then, so I don't know what they WOULD do.

BUT... at least we are exploring and working on elimination of some of the possibilities, instead of just accepting only ONE explanation.

Now... if GOD parted the waters, how did ANYONE cross the bottom of a body of water, which would likely be a muddy mess, and full of slippery flopping fish?

I agree, and I believe that is what this article is about... doing the study.

However, the slant of the article (or title) indicates that they have come to a conclusion, or want us to blindly accept that conclusion, without any real evidence.

Am I right?

Aside from the problems that others have already pointed out I also think these items would have been deeply buried under sediment by now. The Spanish ships in the Caribbean are buried and they are only a few hundred years old.
