Dr Susannah Cornwall claimed that it is “simply a best guess” that Jesus was male.
Her comments, which are bound to provoke fury in some quarters, were published in response to the ongoing debate about women bishops in the Church of England. Dr Cornwall, of Manchester University’s Lincoln Theological Institute, describes herself on her blog as specialising in: “Research and writing in feminist theology, sexuality, gender, embodiment, ethics and other fun things like that.”
In her paper “Intersex & Ontology, A Response to The Church, Women Bishops and Provision”, she argues that it is not possible to know “with any certainty” that Jesus did not suffer from an intersex condition, with both male and female organs.
In an extraordinary paper she says: “It is not possible to assert with any degree of certainty that Jesus was male as we now define maleness.
“There is no way of knowing for sure that Jesus did not have one of the intersex conditions which would give him a body which appeared externally to be unremarkably male, but which might nonetheless have had some “hidden” female physical features.”

The birth of a hermaphrodite was considered an auspicious event back in Roman times...the few surviving passages from the Sybilline Books, Rome’s “last line of defense” when it came to divination and interpretation of events, included interpretations of the meaning of the birth of a hermaphrodite.
With that, I suspect that a hermaphrodite’s condition would have become known, and perhaps it may not have had a long life expectancy.

There are too many outside the bible independent historical documentations that demonstrate that there was indeed a person running around at that time in history doing “something” with the masses.

Yes, it is. Jesus entered into the court proper of the Temple, where only men were allowed. Therefore, Jesus was a man.
Thanks, I tried to look it up online, but there seems to be many people who argue both points of view. In any case, I think some one would have noticed at some point ( as Jesus was contantly in the public eye ). Even in his childhood or at his birth no one noticed anything physically different. It seems to me she came up with this just to stir up controversy and to get people to read her writings. Sad.

One misconception is that first century jews were never celibate. But that is to confuse the Judaism of that time with the rabbinical Judaism that survived the destruction of the Temple. John the Baptist is another example of a deeply religious Jew who did not marry, as was Paul.
