Dr Susannah Cornwall claimed that it is simply a best guess that Jesus was male.
Her comments, which are bound to provoke fury in some quarters, were published in response to the ongoing debate about women bishops in the Church of England. Dr Cornwall, of Manchester Universitys Lincoln Theological Institute, describes herself on her blog as specialising in: Research and writing in feminist theology, sexuality, gender, embodiment, ethics and other fun things like that.
In her paper Intersex & Ontology, A Response to The Church, Women Bishops and Provision, she argues that it is not possible to know with any certainty that Jesus did not suffer from an intersex condition, with both male and female organs.
In an extraordinary paper she says: It is not possible to assert with any degree of certainty that Jesus was male as we now define maleness.
There is no way of knowing for sure that Jesus did not have one of the intersex conditions which would give him a body which appeared externally to be unremarkably male, but which might nonetheless have had some hidden female physical features.

It is impossible for this person to have a functioning brain.
What the **** is this **** I don’t even...
Says more about the ‘researcher’ than it does about the historical Jesus, since there’s no way to prove that one way or the other.
The birth of a hermaphrodite was considered an auspicious event back in Roman times...the few surviving passages from the Sybilline Books, Rome’s “last line of defense” when it came to divination and interpretation of events, included interpretations of the meaning of the birth of a hermaphrodite.
With that, I suspect that a hermaphrodite’s condition would have become known, and perhaps it may not have had a long life expectancy.
Sometimes, the only answer to someone is “Oh, your just fulla $hit”. I’m afraid in the case of that lady, there’s nothing more to say.
If you and I both die today, and you are correct that there is no God, then neither of us are going to know it. We both are just dead and gone and worm food in the dirt. BUT, if I am right, and I know that I am, then we BOTH ARE GOING TO KNOW IT. Because I will be in His presence and you will be in hell. And we both will know it! So, you'd better be right. You get ONE chance to make the call.
And my bet guess is her last name was originally Cornhole not Cornwall.
From time to time idiot libs get their names in print by making stupid and outrageous claims - example: Hussein 0bama " I was born in Hawaii".
Only those quarters where brains are switched to the ON position. What a loon.
this junk pops up ever few years from some agenda crackpot.
This is really about transitioning to the story that jesus was really a woman.
The ivory tower needs a serious purging.
The atheists are pushing the meme of nonexistence in order to fit their myth god worldview.
There are too many outside the bible independent historical documentations that demonstrate that there was indeed a person running around at that time in history doing “something” with the masses.
You don’t need any religion to simply document the historic figure alone. The “hate religion” crowd can’t even tolerate reality established under their own rules.
Jesus was circumcised by the NT.
“It is not possible to assert with any degree of certainty that Jesus was male as we now define maleness.”
Yes, it is. Jesus entered into the court proper of the Temple, where only men were allowed. Therefore, Jesus was a man.
Thanks, I tried to look it up online, but there seems to be many people who argue both points of view. In any case, I think some one would have noticed at some point ( as Jesus was contantly in the public eye ). Even in his childhood or at his birth no one noticed anything physically different. It seems to me she came up with this just to stir up controversy and to get people to read her writings. Sad.
She is struggling for relavency, and doing a poor job.

I don’t feel at all comfortable being exposed to the awesome danger of her critical mind. ( do I really need the sarc tag?)
this is from the same illiterati that brough the hbo series about an aleged female pope.
Theophobia?—an ailment that afflicts atheists who fear that God might exist? The real atheists are the ones who dont even think about God at all.
One misconception is that first century jews were never celibate. But that is to confuse the Judaism of that time with the rabbinical Judaism that survived the destruction of the Temple. John the Baptist is another example of a deeply religious Jew who did not marry, as was Paul.
