Evangelical football star Tim Tebow thanked Jesus Christ after leading the Denver Broncos to an 1815 overtime win over the Miami Dolphins in Florida Sunday, not giving in to critics who are averse to his open display of his Christian faith.
First off, I have to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and my teammates they believed in me for more than 60 minutes, Athlon Sports quoted Tebow as saying right after the surprise win.
It was a dramatic victory. During the first 54 minutes, Tebows play was far from impressive. But then it was as if Tebow had suddenly realized the expectations his fans have from the National Football League player who does not shy away from giving glory to God.
You cant lose confidence in yourself or youve lost already, Tebow, son of missionaries to the Philippines, said. When you get knocked down, youve got to keep getting back up.
When less than six minutes were left and the Miami Dolphins were focusing on defense, Tebow rose to the challenge, rallying the Broncos to two touchdowns.
When Denver lined up for the 2-point attempt for overtime, the Dolphins spread their defense across the field. Tebow ran off between the players, untouched, for the conversion. In overtime, Matt Prater kicked a 52-yard field goal, sealing the victory.
Two days before the game, Jeff Darlington, a reporter at nfl.com, said Tebow has become one of sports most polarizing figures. Thousands love him to a degree rarely seen, he wrote. The same, though, can be said about the degree to which a massive group also hates him There exists a website called TebowHaters.com and a Facebook page dubbed I hate Tim Tebow.
It really blows my mind, the reporter quoted Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, as saying. You talk about a guy thats in the church, doesnt do drugs, doesnt drink alcohol, lives right, won the Heisman, won the national championship in college, said Pouncey, who spent three seasons as an offensive lineman for Tebow at the University of Florida.
Tebows acclaim includes being the first college sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy and the first college football player to both rush and pass for 20 touchdowns in a season.
Maybe people dont like the fact that he has accomplished so much, Dolphins running back Reggie Bush told Darlington. And maybe some people just dont think hes a good quarterback. Everyone has an opinion People look for a reason to hate you. With Tebow, though, its almost like they think its too good to be true.
Tebow has cared little about his critics.
At college in Florida, Tebow frequently wore biblical verses on his eye black. In the 2009 Bowl Championship Series, he wore John 3:16 on his eye paint, reportedly causing 92 million people to search the verse on Google. Later, Tebow switched to Proverbs 3:5-6, again causing 3.43 million searches of the verse together with Tim Tebow. The NFL, however, later banned writing on the eye black.
As a Bama fan, I have always respected and liked Tebow. The ironic twist is that if he would have come to Alabama and played football (when we were suffering under Shula), we would have kept Shula and Nick Saban would have gone elsewhere. God bless you on that one Tim. BTW all those who criticize him for thanking Jesus when he wins do not understand the context under which this is stated. It is not a specific thank you for winning. It is a thank you that I was able to perform well. What many do not realize is that after many NFL and College games, Christian players from both sides will often meet at midfield after the game and pray. I think this is pretty cool and I hardly ever go to church.
So you have a problem with a football player thanking Jesus during an interview (took what, all of 4 seconds?), but are defending what is arguably the most "in your face" religious group around? They come to your door, they stop you on the street if you look at them twice, they run commercials about how "normal" Mormons are.
OK. When you have 24/7 coverage on the sports network, and 2 hours analysis before and after the games, many opinions will be expressed. As always, most are wrong. Analysts and writers would be better off ignoring what Tim Tebow expresses, but just like attacking conservative politicians, they just cannot help themselves. Tim is a light for Christ it appears and so the attacks will come. As I said yesterday; may we all be so committed to the Lord.
So, are you one of those religious bigots also? It’s OK to praise and thank God as long as it’s your God, LOL.
If he electrocuted a few puppies he would be glorified.
Pray for America
Of course the flip side is, if Tebow went to Bama, we would have had Cam Newton.
If the price was right.
Well, at any rate, we know who His QB would be...
;-)
Well we did have Cam Newton even with Tebow. Auburn just wound up getting the finished product.
In his last college game, he wore Ephesians 2:8-10. As much as I hate the Florida Gators, I loved watching Tim Tebow play. Listening to the college football shows on the radio, I enjoyed the fact that the discussion topic centered on which verse Tebow had on his shadow decal. Tebow is a class act, and is one who will be a light on a lampstand for all to see. God bless him.
It worked so well for Mike Tyson, didn't it. And I see where Tiger woods career has gone since stating publicly that he would return to Buddhism as his source in all things.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
So it would seem...
To clarify for all concerning praising God. As Christians we are called to praise God in all things. It is a mandate of our faith. It is not meant as an offense to others, but an expression that we are giving God the credit for everything in our lives, because our life is a gift from God. As the coach told his football team in the movie “Slaying the Giants”; “We praise God when we win, and we praise God when we lose.”
Good point. In the Packer-Viking game yesterday, as soon as (I think it was) Greg Jennings made a TD catch he dropped to knees and it was an obvious prayer..... not one single comment was made by any of the sports announcers. So blacks can cavort & worship & praise God, but whites cannot? That's what it looks like to me. More double standards & hyprocrisy by the leftie media that won't condemn a black Christian for saying or doing the very same things that Tim Tebow is doing.
BINGO!
THANK YOU, JESUS!!!
Wouldn't let him keep his laptop.
Well to be fair, there is also an “I Hate Aaron Rodgers” Facebook page

Yes I have ...my point is God is glorified in all things......Losses as well as wins but do he athletes see that ? Rom 8:28...
Exactlly, he’s thanking God for the physical gifts that God has bestowed upon him. And by thanking God, he’s using these God given gifts to glorify God; can’t understand how this is a bad thing.
I’m now a Broncos fan.
