"Casting him as a director or perhaps as the star of 'Judah Maccabee' is like casting Madoff to be the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission," says Rabbi Marvin Heir.
Prominent Jewish leaders are beginning to speak out against Mel Gibson and Warner Bros. over their planned movie based on the life of religious icon Judah Maccabee.

My inclination is that Mel Gibson would do a good job, and could even possibly doing this as an atonement for past indiscretions.
I can understand that they might be angry at Mel Gibson for his earlier remarks. However, it seems like he is extending an olive branch here, and I can’t see why they would be opposed to this movie.
I’m interested in your take on this suject! Thanks!
Thank you Scutter. That matches my thought as well, but you stated it better than I did!
“Casting him as a director or perhaps as the star of ‘Judah Maccabee’ is like casting Madoff to be the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission,” says Rabbi Marvin Heir.”
Worst analogy in history. Mel had one drunken binge escapade. Madoff screwed people systematically for years. He’s a Rabbi...he should be able to do better than this.
I had not thought of that weakness of the analogy. Thank you.
LOL! “suject” should read as “subject!” Not enough coffee yet!
“F**king Jews...the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”
-Mel Gibson
There is no walking back from that one, Mel.
“There is no walking back from that one, Mel.”
Trying to imagine how screwed everyone would be if there lives were ruined by things they said when they were so drunk they blew a .23 on the breathalyzer test...nope, I can’t imagine it. Unless you’re one of those “wine makes you truthful” believers. Then there’s no further discussion...
The Golan-Globus team wasn’t available?
I recall the hysteria over his Passion of the Christ. It would spark a new holocaust or at the very least a brutal wave of anti-semitism. What happened along those lines? Zilch. Nada. Rien. ZERO. That’s all I have to say.
I’m Jewish and I’ve always like Mel Gibson. I say, “Right on, Mel”.
Alcohol could not make someone say something that they did not believe and it certainly could not make a good person say:
F**king Jews...the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.
-Mel Gibson
Nor could alcohol make a good person say:
“You look like a f-—cking pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of n-—ers it will be your fault.”
-Mel Gibson
Me too, and it’s about time someone made a movie about the Maccabees. I’ll watch it. In fact I’m looking forward to it.
It sounds very, “You don’t have the RIGHT to do a movie about OUR heroes!”, which is a classic liberal response. A little like liberals’ reactions when conservatives quote King or Kennedy. My bottom line:
Sierra Tango Foxtrot Uniform

“Alcohol could not make someone say...”
I take it you haven’t spent a lot of time around drunks.
Sorry, I am not one to absolve someone of responsibility for their actions, simply because they had too much to drink.
“Sorry, I am not one to absolve someone of responsibility for their actions, simply because they had too much to drink.”
I don’t know who said anything about absolution. You’re filling in that blank. Understanding how something works doesn’t mean you approve of it.
He definitely has a history of mouthing off in crude ways, but one anti-semitic comment in an alcoholic rage I would not necessarily hold against him; if he makes a pro-Israel movie we can see that he obviously is not anti-Semitic.
The big Hollywood studios were founded or operated by Jews and some of the Biblical epics they produced were atrocious. Maybe the rabbis should hit the golden oldies at the movie rental kiosk.
