D'Andria said the structure of the tomb and the writings on it proved that it belonged to St. Philip the Apostle, who is recognized as a martyr in the history of Christianity
The tomb of St. Philip the Apostle, one of the original 12 disciples of Christianity's central figure Jesus Christ, has been discovered during the ongoing excavations in Turkey's south-western province of Denizli.
Italian professor Francesco D'Andria, the head of the excavation team at the Hierapolis ancient city in Denizli, told reporters on Tuesday that experts had reached the tomb of St. Philip whose name is mentioned in the Bible as one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus.
Professor D'Andria said archeologists had been working for years to find the tomb of the Biblical figure, and finally, they had managed to reach the monument while working on the ruins of a newly-unearthed church in Hierapolis.
D'Andria said the structure of the tomb and the writings on it proved that it belonged to St. Philip the Apostle, who is recognized as a martyr in the history of Christianity.
Describing the discovery as a major development both for archeology and the Christian world, D'Andria said the tomb, which had not been opened yet, was expected to become an important Christian pilgrimage destination.
Hierapolis, whose name means "sacred city", is an ancient city located next to the renowned Pamukkale, white Travertine terraces, in Denizli province. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city, famous for its historical hot springs used as a spa since the 2nd century, is a mixture of Pagan, Roman, Jewish and early Christian influences.

Did you ever read the book.I have. It is bias and glosses over key issues with protestant horror issues. It is badly one sided. I have read books by protestants and catholics that are fairer than that book. Scholars today know it is a shoddy work of so-called research.Course I read the book...All good Protestants have read the book, or should read it...

There were no new testament scriptures in the first century. Contrary to popular opinion, the Apostles, with the exception of John did not write their Gospels. Col 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
2Ti 4:13 The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.
It only takes a little bit of scripture to knock you guys off your horse...
Of course there was scripture in the first century...

As our Deacon once said, “We do not know that there ISN’T a St. Madison (when questioned about the name for a newly baptized baby). St. Madison may just have not been born yet.”
Still, I like the custom of naming a child after a Saint. All my children and grandchildren carry the names of Saints.
To: afraidfortherepublic
My children all have saints’ names, too. Several have more than one! A family in our congregation named their baby girl Azul, which means “blue,” but Father Paul doesn’t speak Spanish and just said, “Oh, that’s pretty!” Diacono Rafael was shaking his head sadly ... but at least it was “Azul Maria.”
Someday, if you live long enough, you’ll meet your new pastor, Father Dakota, and have to choke back hysterical laughter ;-).

I own and read the entire Anti-Nicene set...and when these godly men write, their latin reference to “catholic” is always meant to mean “universal”: not catholic church. Suppose their words were correctly translated “universal”, then I suppose the catholic church would call themselves the universal church...

We call ourselves the Katholicos Church because thanks to God's grace alone we are spreading the gospel across the world
i know your non-Christian cult, bibtut is against the Gospels and the OT and the Psalms, deeming them to be just for the Jews, but we Christians believe otherwise. Hence your cult remains with a membership of 1.

Prove the Bible we have today is the same scriptures referred to in the Bible, and do it using the Bible we have today.
What part didn’t you understand the first time?
To: Cronos
Cronos, I know that Romans believe they own the word ‘catholic’ but it is actually appropriated. The universal church of the saved in Christ crosses sectarian lines. No Protestant sect or denomination believes it is the only congregation in which a soul might be saved. There is great unity in the Protestant denominations in the area of soteriology. This is not so in respect to the Romans who believe that they alone dispense the means of grace. So, truly, the term ‘Roman Catholic’ is an oxymoron, for one part of the term is sectarian, and the other is universal. It is the Protestant churches that are catholic, but not Roman.

esquirette, it's a term that has been used. By your logic, I can say that even the terms Presbyterian, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Orthodox, etc have been 'appropriated'.
There is no great unity in the various groups -- for instance,
Let's see --
- which one is right? one should believe in something as basic as Jesus was always God (Trinitarian position) or that Jesus Christ was man made God (Oneness PENTECOSTAL Protestant position) or the Angel Michael (Seventh Day Adventist Ellen G White teaching)
- which one is right? that there is the REAL Presence of Christ in the Eucharist (Lutheran, some Anglicans, maybe even Methodists), or is it just a symbol (Calvinists)
- which one is right? that one MUST talk in tongues (Oneness Pentecostal) to display faith or not?
- which one is right? that there should be an episcopate (Lutheran, Anglican) or not (Presbyterians)?
- which one is right? that apostolic succession is important (Anglican) or not (others)?
-
- which one is right? that Baptism is for infants and sufficient (Presbyterian etc.) or not (Baptists)?
- which one is right? that God pre-damns people to hell (Calvinism) or not (others)?
- which one is right? that vestements are ok (or in the silly words of one poster allowing men in dresses and silly hats) (Anglicans, Lutherans, some Methodists, Presbyterians, even Baptists and Pentecostals) or not?
- which one is right? that Jesus came only for the salvation of a few (Calvinists) or he was Savior of the world (everyone else)?
- which one is right? agree or disagree with soul sleep? (Calvin: "As long as (the soul) is in the body it exerts its own powers; but when it quits this prison-house it returns to God, whose presence, it meanwhile enjoys while it rests in the hope of a blessed Resurrection. This rest is its paradise. On the other hand, the spirit of the reprobate, while it waits for the dreadful judgment, is tortured by that anticipation. . .", Psychopannychia,
- which one is right? agree or disagree with worshipping on a Sunday (Presbyterians, Pentecostals etc.) or not (Seventh Day Adventists)
- which one is right? agree with the Adventists that one should follow kosher laws or not?
- which one is right? believe that we still have spiritual gifts like prophecy amongst us (Pentecostals) or not (Presbyterians)
- which one is right? agree with being "slain in the spirit" (Pentecostalism) or not (Presbyterianism, Lutheranism etc)
- which one is right? that Regeneration comes through Baptism (Lutheranism) or not (Baptists)
- which one is right? that grace can be resisted (Pentecostalism, Lutheranism, Methodism) or not (Calvinism)
- which one is right? that baptism is three-fold (Mennonites) or not?
- which one is right? that there is no free will (Calvinism) or that man has free will (Mennonites)
- which one is right? that it is faith + works (Mennonites: Menno Simons told the followers of Luther and Calvin: If you wish to be saved, you must walk in the way of the Lord, hear His Word, and obey it. For nothing avails in heaven nor on earth unto salvation,
not even Christ with His grace, merit, blood, and death, if we are not born of God,
if we do not believe His Word sincerely, and if we do not walk in the light and do right. As John says:
>If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie. (Complete Writings of Menno Simons, p. 208)) or not?
- which one is right? that there is imputed righteousness (Calvinism) or not (Mennonites)

And, of course do note that we hold the graces dispensed by the Orthodox and Orientals to be valid and them to be in communion with us.
At a pinch we also acknowledge the trinitarian baptism shared between your group and the Church. however, you Presbyterians are not in communion with the Oneness Pentecostals, for example.
That is your choice note -- I'm just pointing out the differences.

We are spreading the gospel of Christ -- you know, it's in the book called the Holy Bible. This is in opposition to your non-Christian cult which spreads the gospel of Iscool and is in opposition to Christ and His teachings.
your cult first says that it does not even believe that Jesus Christ is God and then contradicts itself by saying He was just a mode of God (of course no explanation for how the 3 modes were separate at Jesus' baptism) and finally your cult says that Jesus was just a spirit, never a man, hence negating both the Incarnation and Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the Cross

Prove the Bible we have today is the same scriptures referred to in the Bible, and do it using the Bible we have today.Don't need to...Because if we don't have the same bible, we don't have a bible...And we have no concept of God or whether there is a God...
Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Psa 12:7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
This one works pretty well...
You guys really ought to study the words of God instead of attacking them all the time...
