Mitt Romneys campaign team knows that his Mormon faith scared off Republican voters the last time he ran for president.
But they believe a lot has changed in the last four years.
For starters, Romney is now much better known. The former Massachusetts governor campaigned hard in the 2008 primaries even addressing his Mormonism head-on in a major speech and has stayed in the public eye since, popping up on late-night talk shows and on cable news channels.
Romneys Mormonism, the thinking goes, is less exotic than it was four years ago because the candidate is more familiar.
Plus, unlike in 2008, theres a Democrat in the White House for Republican voters to unite against. The Romney camp hopes the Obama factor will boost support for a battle-tested candidate whos shown he can raise the hundreds of millions of dollars White House bids require, regardless of the candidates religious affiliation.
And unlike the 2008 Republican primaries, when George W. Bush was in the White House and debate over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan loomed large, next years elections are poised to hang on the economy. Not a bad time, maybe, for a guy with a Harvard MBA and a career spent turning around financially troubled companies and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah....

Doesn’t matter if we are or not.
It's the politics. Imagine that.
we were never ready for a Muslim socialist
Why? Is Sarah going to convert?
Was America ready for an Islamic president?
I didn’t know Glenn Beck was running...
Kinda treading on JimRob’s thin ice, aren’t you?
As to the question posed by the headline, I don’t care if he is any religion at all, he is no kind of conservative. That’s been proven beyond any shade of a doubt, IMO.
Was America prepared for a Catholic president? I read in history books where the MSM was bringing up the fact that Kennedy would be taking orders from the pope.
Ready or not, it’s a moot point. MUTT has about as good a chance of being elected POPE as he does President.
Like minds...
I’m not too worried about it happening this cycle.
ARRRGGGHHHH!
Christian, Jew, Mormon.
I don’t really care.
I sure as hell don’t want another RINO or another liberal or leftist.
Leave it to CNN to inject anti-Mormon bigotry into the political dialogue.
A Mormon will not play well in the Bible belt. If Romney gets the nomination (and I do not think he will), it is likely that someone will run as a third party candidate, ensuring Obama will give us another four years of hell.
Sorry for this negative observation, but I cannot see conservative Christians voting for a Mormon, regardless of qualifications.
America is ready for anybody that hates America less than Obama does.
Oh no, thinking you are going to be a god on your own planet and your wife will pump out spiritual babies for eternity is just as exotic as it was four years ago.
How am I treading on Jim’s thin ice?
