I am a longtime lurker here and visit nearly everyday.
I have developed a severe allergy problem. I have been told by my allergy Doctor that I am "allergic to iodine when taken as food in combination with other elements" In other words I can't tolerate iodine in my food. He said I am the first true case of this type he has ever seen. Many people think they are allergic to Iodine but in fact are allergic to a protein found in shellfish.
I am living off of a few juiced raw vegetables, organic unsalted peanut butter, oranges, orange juice and organic strawberry preserves. That seems to be all I can tolerate. If I "make a mistake" I have the following symptoms.Immediate severe "tightening" of the muscles starting high up my back and eventually spreading up my neck and to the back of my head. This leads to pretty severe headache, elevated blood pressure..last time it went to 180/111 . I am retaining a lot of fluid and feel weak.I have gone into Anaphylactic shock, thrown up etc. Unexplained rashes across my face and my entire scalp. I also suffer from colitis and diverticulitis.
I spoke with a local Doctor this week who told me he had no idea what could be done to help me.He advised me to get as many Christians as possible to pray for me and stated that "you need Divine healing". My allergy Doctor has been good to help with supplements etc which have given me more strength but has also stated that he does not know what can be done and that my healing would have to come from God.I have been to several doctors, herb people, chiropractors etc and none have been able to help me.
I am 47 and the father of two and a happy grandfather. I am a Christian and I am trying hard to be at peace with whatever my future holds. The thing I struggle most with is the financial burden my sickness has brought to my family. I do not have the strength to work a normal work week and struggle with staying on top of things at my office. We are facing immediate financial crisis and long term issues as well.I hate having to be preoccupied with our needs instead of spending my time and efforts in service to God & my fellow man.
I ask you my Free Republic friends to pray for me and my family.
My Sea Salt does not have iodine. I am using Morton Fine and they put a no iodine warning right on it. It is sea salt from Spain.
Thanks
So glad to hear that you are able to add a little variety in every now and again. That has to help a lot, to be able to have even a small treat on occasion.
Will definitely keep you and NCSEADOG on my prayer list.
Take care, and May God bless,
Tatt
I think all sea salt has iodine in it. It’s in ocean water.
Almost all the sea salt I’ve looked into that I can find around here has additives, potassium iodide and anti-caking agents.
He’d be best off trying kosher salt for the time being. It is just salt.
I also have severe allergies, dust, cats, grass pollen, tree pollen, some scents.
I sympathize with your situation. Please see a specialist in this area and be test for other things you might be allergic to.
For example, I know of a person who is extremely allergic to soy. Do you know you can’t buy catsup with it having soy in it?
Well, that OK but it seemed as though I was totally incorrect which isn’t the case. The ingredients are Salt and Yellow Prussiate of Soda, thats it.
Chocolate has mostly Bromine, so it is the antidote to Iodine poisoning.
Prayers lifted.
I agree, in Jesus’ Holy and Healing Name, Amen.
I didn’t mean it to sound that way.

Yellow Prussiate of Soda is an anti-caking agent. I don’t know the actual chemical composition, but as one who reacts to almost everything, I would strongly suggest he start with as pure, close to single ingredient foods as possible.
One of the most frustrating things about tracking down food sensitivities is trying to figure out what in a food it is that is causing the problem. You have to get on a diet that doesn’t cause a reaction and then add ONE thing at a time. If you add more than one, or something with more than one ingredient, you drop back and punt, because you don’t know what it was that caused the reaction. You then lose time in testing by having to try each item only by itself.
I knew what it was but found it amusing that you used all caps against Sea Salt. It probably would be best to try Kosher. A body cannot function without salt.
But poisoning is not the same as an allergic reaction.
Fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine are all chemically very similar; they occupy the same group. They’re halogens and their outer valence shell is structurally very similar so they react chemically the same way. So, yes, I could certainly see where bromine would help with iodine poisoning, but it would not help with an allergy.
However, I’d expect that anyone sensitive to iodine would also react to fluorine, chlorine, and bromine.
I’m going to guess that pool water makes him break out, so I would avoid drinking tap water that has not been de-chlorinated, and that he can’t use fluoridated toothpaste. (I haven’t been able to use any toothpaste in well over a year)
Hi I am a Christian, and I have done some successful work with allergies. If you would like to chat with me over the phone (yes I can do it over the phone) I will comp you my fee. I am on the west coast 805 551-8784. Give me a call at 930 on.
Blessings,

I have to admit, I was yelling. :)
You aren’t allowed any salt?
Praying for your healing!
I agree with you in that prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Prayers unaffected Seadog. It sounds as though you have quite a problem and when it affects your energy it affects everything. Sometimes we get sidetracked but prayer is #1 for you to find a specialist that can fix a body as fast as a radar.
