I am a longtime lurker here and visit nearly everyday.
I have developed a severe allergy problem. I have been told by my allergy Doctor that I am "allergic to iodine when taken as food in combination with other elements" In other words I can't tolerate iodine in my food. He said I am the first true case of this type he has ever seen. Many people think they are allergic to Iodine but in fact are allergic to a protein found in shellfish.
I am living off of a few juiced raw vegetables, organic unsalted peanut butter, oranges, orange juice and organic strawberry preserves. That seems to be all I can tolerate. If I "make a mistake" I have the following symptoms.Immediate severe "tightening" of the muscles starting high up my back and eventually spreading up my neck and to the back of my head. This leads to pretty severe headache, elevated blood pressure..last time it went to 180/111 . I am retaining a lot of fluid and feel weak.I have gone into Anaphylactic shock, thrown up etc. Unexplained rashes across my face and my entire scalp. I also suffer from colitis and diverticulitis.
I spoke with a local Doctor this week who told me he had no idea what could be done to help me.He advised me to get as many Christians as possible to pray for me and stated that "you need Divine healing". My allergy Doctor has been good to help with supplements etc which have given me more strength but has also stated that he does not know what can be done and that my healing would have to come from God.I have been to several doctors, herb people, chiropractors etc and none have been able to help me.
I am 47 and the father of two and a happy grandfather. I am a Christian and I am trying hard to be at peace with whatever my future holds. The thing I struggle most with is the financial burden my sickness has brought to my family. I do not have the strength to work a normal work week and struggle with staying on top of things at my office. We are facing immediate financial crisis and long term issues as well.I hate having to be preoccupied with our needs instead of spending my time and efforts in service to God & my fellow man.
I ask you my Free Republic friends to pray for me and my family.
done
I will follow your doctors orders and pray for you.
Wow! What a story for Good Friday! It sounds as if you are being lifted up on the cross. I will send up prayers for your healing & strength as well as strength for your family and wisdom for your doctors.
Prayers for you, your health and your family, NCSEADOG.
Prayers for you and your family.
Be positive and take everyday as a positive. I think that and prayers help a lot.
I will pray for you. Can you take sea salts or kosher salts OK?
Wow, it does sound like you are under attack. Prayers for a speedy recovery or for God to give you the answer you need to treat the allergy. Glad to hear you are consulting a nutritionist. Someone I knew cured an allergy with Vit. K, but this does not sound like a normal allergy. This one is going to take divine healing.
Thank you Lord, for what you will do for this Christian man. In Jesus name. Amen.

By His stripes we are healed. And that is why we rejoice!
You have a remarkable doctor, one who knows the great I AM is the ultimate Physician.
May He bless you and your family with your healing!
You have my prayers, but also look into ‘alternative’ medicine. If your doctor has said there’s nothing more his medicine can do, it seems to me you’d owe it to yourself, and that he’d be willing to discuss the things you find in your reading with you. Your library probably has a copy of Balch’s book Prescription for Nutritional Healing - it’s written by an MD and is a fairly good place to get started. Fasting goes along with prayer, as you know - maybe try one day a week for a little while, if that fits with his advice.
Father I lift up my Brother in Christ to you. Ease his burden or give him strength and endurance to the service of Your will. I lift up his family to you and ask for Your comfort in their time of struggle. Amen
Please keep us updated so we can pray accordingly.
Prayers being said.
Amen brother! Seriously, though, get a fresh perspective. Your present diagnosis is what your doctor is standing behind, come hell or high water, and it doesn't seem to be helping.
Perhaps metmom can give you some advice and show you some of her old threads. She was dealing with heavy duty food allergies and it turned out she did have a diagnosis; I think a mast cell problem (autoimmune).
Metmom; perhaps you have a word of advice for NCSEADOG?
I have been to several Doctors. Thanks for the suggestion & I do agree. I have been sick long enough now that my emergency fund is gone..sold about all I can sell..including my mutual funds. I currently do not have health insurance as I am self employed and currently can’t afford nor find coverage. I am NOT trying to make an excuse & I am open to a different opinion.
Thank you
I’ll pray that you find appropriate medical treatment.
Tomorrow, call the patient intake number for Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and talk to one of their counsellors. The doctors that are there are the best in the world. The counsellor can also talk finances with you so you know if it financially something you can do. Please don’t think you can’t go because of money. Work with them on it.
Once you are properly diagnoses, they devise treatment plans you can do with your hometown doctor. You go back and see them maybe once a year, depending on the complexity of your problem. They don’t work God-style miracles, but they are pretty close!
Get checked out for mastocytosis or Mast Cell Activation Disorder, while you’re at it.
Do you live near the Boston area?
Try oatmeal, although it is rumored to have a small amount of iodine in it, it’s supposed to have some limited anti-histamine effects.
I’ve found some good information on the nutritional value of various foods at this website, but cannot figure out how to bring those particular pages up without doing a google search of the term *nutritional value of (whatever the food you’re looking for is*.

Iodine allergies are not uncommon, although I don’t know about them being related to the source.
Chlorine and iodine bother me but not to the degree which you are dealing with/
I will certainly pray for you as a fellow food allergy/intolerance sufferer.
Thanks for the ping, pandy.
As a word of encouragement I have a close friend who, due to liver problems, has been on a raw food diet for years. She lives on various juices and salads, a few cold pressed oils, and a few other things like bee pollen.
She has lived for many years on this and while it is no picnic she often has decent energy, makes it out to church each week, etc.
Happy to pray for you as well.
