Who are the Clergy among us?
Contemplation | Padre unknown

Posted on 02/22/2011 6:28:38 PM PST by padre35

I think one of the least utilized assets in all of America is the Clergy, how can you have a pool of College Educated, or Scripturally Wise men and granted, some Women, and shuttle them off to the side as if the knowledge accumulated is akin to those whom are expert at variations of color of sea snails?

I also do believe in the concept of "whomsoever" as in a Sheepskin does not a wise man make, in that sense Christians who have served in Congregations worthily should also be included.

A roll call perhaps? To the topic, even Lay Workers and Bishops should maybe post some wisdom whilst there is still light as it were.

Be advised though, I truly do believe that a humble, or indeed, wealthy person who gives their effort to the cause of Christ, even to a small extent, should say their piece.

Drop some knowledge on us, on how to:

-Mend a quarrel -mend a marriage -Serve with excellence -How to speak at a funeral and to give comfort -Wonderful Baptisms -How to mend a broken heart -Live in lack and live in abundance and praise God all the while

Service:

What Pastors need What Churches need Prayer's place

Ordained December, 1979. Served in local churches, and as an Army Chaplain. That being said, I am not sure what you are asking for.

Ping for when I am feeling better. What are you seeking?

I’m not clergy, but I am in full time service as is my husband.

Well the thought is, with such a well of experienced Clergy it would be good to have some idea who is who, maybe for a solemn ping list?

That and after yrs or Pastoring (as imho, everyone who serves has pastored) it would be fun, and invocative to gain wisdom from the experienced, not the learned?

That to me is one of the wonderful things about Christianity, the knock on the door at 1 am, or healing the breach in a relationship, such things are rarely every mentioned.

And to be sure, there are other duties, such as Hospital Chaplain at 2 am, what helped in those situations to make Christians better servants of Christ?

Well in the large picture:

Even a Bible College Graduate has completed 4 yrs of courses, the RCC priests have finished..6 yrs?

A large proportion of a lifetime spent studying the Scriptures is surely an asset?

And by asset, I am speaking to Relationships, not monetary ends. How can there be tens of thousands of educated people and it not be looked on as a well of wisdom?

Bot practical, and esoteric?

Indeed Sir, indeed.

Every job is a pulpit, every Believer fully capable of baptizing and hearing confessions of faith.

However, with such a huge forum, why not look for the frocked sheepskins?

What an asset that can be.

In the metaphysical and the natural, after all it is not as if the Most High would be in the business, or practice, of offering his wisdom in a Book, and his Son as a Patriarch, so mankind can be imbeciles..:D

Pardon my ignorance, but would you care to illustrate the differences between a lay minister and a priest etc?

Interesting, that is, the concept that anyone can “retire” from the service of God?

Is that something that ever fades away?>

Depends on who you ask. I’m Baptist, so we hold that all believers belong to the priesthood of believers (1Pe 2:5,9).

A lay minister is not ordained. They come from the congregation and fill a number of functions at the descretion of the local church. They are not paid, and minister voluntarily as needed.

A “priest” as is known today, is a term used by the Catholic/Anglican churches to denote the person in charge, or otherwise holding the bishopric (the office).

We call them “pastors” in order to avoid the confusion, and they are ordained from local churches in a region, not by a central church hierarchy as Catholics/Anglicans do.

Hope that helps.

Quite sufficent!

Ugh, for myself, what Isaiah said “come, ye who have no money, and eat..”

Eh, my 10 dollar ordination saved my life, it is something to me, that Satan meant for evil, but the Most High turned to Good.

The rudiments of a Christian Marriage Ceremony, Baptisms, Funeral Rites..just in case, I defer to those who have been taught what gives comfort.

Basically, if “I” am called on, there is no one else to represent God’s will, then again, all I know came from a 50 cent book from goodwill.

Hmm, isn’t the Epsicopol Hierachy predicated on “church elders”?

Episkopos?

point made - i retired from the unChristian politics of the Superintendent…my heart being broken to a point where I no longer hold a desire to participate in organized religion, preferring instead, outreach ministries.

If I may ask, wht used to make you happy?

What could you have used more of, aside from a massive endowment of course?

And if Imay get personal, do you still believe prayer works?

no disrespect - but your point?

What could you have used more of, aside from a massive endowment of course?

other Pastors who knew what was transpiring but feared for their paycheck and did nothing- making them doubleminded / the endowmeent is covered, thank you, allowing my semi retirement

\ And if Imay get personal, do you still believe prayer works?

of course - i havent renounced my faith - Heaven forbid

why the coy questions - what is your point?
