You are the future of the world, he told kids. You have an immense potential for good and for creative possibility. Let's make that our perspective too.

Excellent article. Many times, during my teaching career, I bemoaned the fact that parents had not taught their children these virtues. It was truly discouraging to see how few parents had actually taken the time to properly train their children.
So many of the youngsters in my classrooms had, over the years, spent more time reacting with strangers in daycare/before care/aftercare than they had with their parents.
They’ve also done some interesting studies about young children who can delay their gratification. Preschoolers who can put off eating a treat for the promise of a bigger treat in ten minutes will be doing better at the end of high school than those who just can’t wait and gobble up the small treat.
The trait of self discipline, or self control, is very important to success in school.
