"Some people are so foolish that they think they can go through life without the help of the Blessed Mother." "Love the Madonna and pray the rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today." "All graces given by God pass through the Blessed Mother."

I'd much prefer there were others than the catholic church who investigate these things....second and third opinions generally are quite revealing.

It is difficult to believe the catholic church as so many things swing from one place to another...pending the winds of change...so many happenings are generally regarded as miracles or sightings or somehow end up with religious meanings. But the same for branches of other religions....

If I were to believe any of it it might be those Christian happenings in third world countries more than here in ours. There are far too many frauds and counterfeits operating here in every branch of our country.

And frankly all those dark robed men in that photo give me zero comfort ....rather... looks pretty creepy to me.

And just for your information...satan and his hoard can mimic and do what appears to be miracles and positive feelings from their escapades. Further it is written they will do so at an amazing rate as things move forward. We are a world ripe for deception. Therefore I will continue to walk my walk with Christ by faith.....not by what might be seen.

re: Are they even current teachings?

I posted before some Church Fathers, here it is with more current authorities included. Is it Catholic teaching? Obviously it is, it’s Catholic tradition. “Current teachings” that change tomorrow, are inventions of man made religions. Truths can’t change into the opposite over time.

DEVOTION TO OUR LADY IS NECESSARY FOR SALVATION

In me is all hope of life and of virtue, in me is all grace of the way and the truth. Ecclesiasticus 24:25

All the saints have a great devotion to Our Lady: no grace comes from Heaven without passing through her hands. We cannot go into a house without speaking to the door-keeper. Well, the Holy Virgin is the doorkeeper of Heaven. John Mary Vianney

All gifts, virtues, and graces of the Holy Ghost are administered by the hands of Mary to whomsoever she desires, when she desires, in the manner she desires, and to whatever degree she desires. Mary is the dispensatrix of all the graces God bestows. Ev-
ery grace granted to man in this life has three successive steps: from God it comes to Christ, and from Christ to the Virgin, and from the Virgin it descends to us. St. Bernardine of Siena

Every grace which is communicated has a three-fold origin: it flows from God to Christ, from Christ to the Virgin, and from the Virgin to us. Pope Leo XIII

The Lord has placed in Mary the plenitude of all good so that, if any hope of grace or salvation is in us, we know that we derive it all from Mary. St Bernard

For this reason, all creatures are obligated to render her respect and homage, as to their Queen and Sovereign to whom they belong, and upon whom they depend, and will depend, for all eternity. St. John Eudes

Even as Eve, having become disobedient, was made the cause of death both to herself and to the entire human race so also did Mary, by being obedient, become the cause of salvation both to herself and to the whole human race. And therefore, as the human
race was made subject to death by a virgin, so is it saved by a virgin. St Irenaeus of Lyons

Mary has the greatest and clearest claims to our homage and praise: she is the salvation of the world; our dependence upon the august Mary is complete and universal. There is neither on earth nor in Heaven any justified soul, any one of the Elect, who does not owe Mary his justice and his glory. Ven. William Joseph Chaminade

Many have proved invincibly, from the sentiments of the Fathers - among others: St. Augustine, St. Ephem, St. Cyril of Jerusalem, St. Germanus of Constantinople, St, John Damascene, St. Anselm, St. Bernard, St. Bernardine, St. Thomas, and St. Bonaventure - that devotion to Our Most Blessed Virgin is necessary for salvation, and that it is an infallible mark of reprobation to have no esteem or love for the Holy Virgin while, on the other hand, it is an infallible mark of predestination to be entirely and truly devoted to her. St Louis Marie de Montfort

If our life were not under the protection of Mary, we might tremble for our perseverance and salvation. In her hands Jesus has placed His almighty power in the order of salvation. All the graces of salvation, both the natural and the spiritual, will be given to us
by Mary. St. Peter Julian Eymard

Mary is the whole hope of our salvation. St Thomas Aquinas

The foundation of all our confidence is found in the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through her are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation. For this is God’s will: that we obtain everything through Mary. Ven. Pope Pius IX

A mediator, then, was needed with the Mediator Himself, nor could a more fitting one be found than Mary. St. Bernard

Mary is our necessary and universal Mediatrix. No one can go to the Son but by Mary, just as no one can go to the Father but by the Son. Only through Mary do we reach Jesus, since Jesus came to us only through Mary. Ven. William Joseph Chaminade

Nothing comes to us except through the mediation of Mary, for such is the will of God. Pope Leo XIII

To reach the Eternal Father, we must go to Jesus, our Mediator of Redemption. To go to Jesus, we must go to Mary, our Mediatrix of Intercession. St. Louis Marie de Montfort

What, therefore, God hath joined together, let no man put asunder ... Take the Child and His Mother. St. Matthew 19:4; 2:20

The Child is not found without Mary, His Mother. If, then, it is impossible to separate what God has united, it is also certain that you cannot find Jesus except with Mary and through Mary. Pope St. Pius X

We must never separate Jesus from Mary; we can go to Him only through her. Without Mary, we would never find Jesus. Whoever would say “I have no need of Mary” would be guilty of blasphemy! Our eternal salvation is at stake, and we are bound to honor her as the Mother of God and our Mother. St. Peter Julian Eymard

Mary is the Ark of God, the center of the universe, the cause of creation, the business of the ages. Towards her turn the men who have gone before us, we who are now living, those who are to follow us, our children’s children, and their descendants. If we have any chance of salvation, we have it all from Mary, Go, then, have recourse to Mary. St. Bernard

THOSE DEVOTED TO OUR LADY SHALL OBTAIN SALVATION

He who shall find me shall find life and shall have salvation from the Lord. Proverbs 8:35

If you persevere till death in true devotion to Mary, your salvation is certain. St Alphonsus Maria Liguori

With reason did the Most Holy Virgin predict that all generations would call her blessed, for all the Elect obtain eternal salvation through the means of Mary. St. Idelphonsus

Christ entrusted to His Mother’s maternal care the mission of making the Church a single family. Yes, in Mary we have the bond of communion for all of us who, through Faith and Baptism, are disciples and brothers of Jesus. Pope John Paul II

In the multitude of the Elect she shall have praise, and among the blessed she shall be blessed. Ecclesiasticus 24.4

Her children rose up and called her blessed. Proverbs 31:28

For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed ... who are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of man, A of God. St Luke 1:48, St. John 1:13

0 Mary, thou art blessed among women, for thou hast brought forth life for both men and women! St. Augustine

Every one of the multitudes, therefore, whom the evil of calamitous circumstances has stolen away from Catholic unity, must be born again to Christ by that same Mother whom God has endowed with a never-failing fertility to bring forth a holy people.
Pope Leo XIII

Bearing in her womb the Savior, Mary can also be said to have borne all those whose life the Savior’s life enshrined. All of us, then, as many as are knit to Christ, have come forth from Marys womb: one Body, as it were, knit together with its Head. Pope St Pius X

Although in the most pure womb of Mary there was but one kernel of grain, Jesus Christ, nevertheless, her womb is called a “heap of wheat” (Cant. 7:2) because all the Elect were virtually contained in it. St. Ambrose

Mary is that Happy Ark, in which those who take refuge will never suffer the shipwreck of eternal perdition. St. Bernard

However great a sinner may have been, if he shows himself devout to Mary he will never perish. St Hilary of Poitiers

Souls protected by Mary, and on whom she casts her eyes, are necessarily justified and saved. Just as it is impossible that they be saved from whom Mary turns away her eyes of mercy, so it is certain that they who are loved by Mary, and for whom she intercedes, will obtain justification and eternal life. St. Antoninus

We believe that Mary opens the abyss of God’s mercy to whomsoever she wills, when she wills, and as she wills; so that there is no sinner, however great, who is lost if Mary protects him. St. Bonaventure

He who is devout to the Virgin Mother will certainly never be lost. St. Ignatius of Antioch

Not a single soul who has really persevered in her service has ever been damned. St. Louis Marie de Montfort

0 Mother of God! If I place my confidence in thee, I shall be saved; if I am under thy protection, I have nothing to fear; for being thy client is a certainty of salvation which God grants only to those whom He intends to save. St. John Damascene

Being thy servant, 0 Mary, is a surety of salvation which God grants solely to those He will save. St. Andrew of Crete

The servants of Mary are as certain of getting to Paradise as though they were already there. Who are they who are saved, and reign in Heaven? Surely, those for whom the Queen of Mercy intercedes. The clients of Mary will necessarily be saved! St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori

0 Blessed Mary, whoever loves you, honors God; whoever serves you, pleases God; whoever invokes your holy name, with a pure heart, will infallibly receive the object of his petition. St. Bernard

0 admirable Mother of God! How many sins have I committed for which thou hast obtained pardon for me, and how many others would I have committed if thou hadst not preserved me? How often have I seen myself on the brink of Hell in obvious danger of falling into it but for thy most benign hand which saved me? Alas! Without thee, my dearest and all-good Mother, where should I be today? I should be in the fiery furnace of Hell! St. John Eudes

Would that everyone might know that I would already be damned already were it not for Mary! St Louis Marie de Montfort

THOSE WHO REFUSE TO HONOR OUR LADY WILL BE LOST

He who angers His Mother is cursed by God. Ecclesiasticus 3:18

The honor of Mary is so intimately connected with the honor and glory of Jesus that to deny the one is at the same time a denial of the other. Ven. William Joseph Chaminade

He who neglects the service of the Blessed Virgin will die in his sins. He who does not invoke thee, O Lady, will never get to Heaven. Not only win those from whom Mary turns her countenance not be saved, but there will be no hope of their salvation.
No one can be saved without the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St Bonaventure

To desire grace without recourse to the Virgin Mother is to desire to fly without wings. Pope Pius XII

If you would enter into Life, keep the commandments ... Honor thy father and thy mother. St Matthew 19:17,19

Behold thy Mother! St. John 19:27

Jesus honored her before all ages, and will honor her for all ages. No one comes to Him, nor even near Him, no one is saved or sanctified, if he too will not honor her. This is the lot of angels and of men. St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe

There is a generation that does not bless their Mother, a generation pure in their own eyes and yet not washed from their filthiness. Proverbs 30.11-12

All the true children of God, the predestinate, have God for their Father and Mary for their Mother. He who has not Mary for his Mother has not God for his Father. St. Louis Marie de Montfort

Whoever does not wish to have Mary Immaculate as his Mother will not have Christ as his Brother either; the Father will not send His Son to him; the Son will not descend into his soul; the Holy Spirit will not make him a member of the Mystical Body of Christ; for a these mysteries of grace take place in Mary Full-of-Grace, and in her alone. And, since the First Born Son was conceived only through the specific consent of the Most Blessed Virgin, the same holds true for all other humans. St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe

Your heart will either sing the divine canticles of Our Lady, or echo the cursed and unhappy songs of worldlings here in dishonor to God and vibrate eternally with the blasphemies and horrid dirges of the damned in Hell! St. John Eudes

It is much more preferable to listen, and observe and believe that which God has stated than to put faith in what is otherwise assumed, or thought possible, and in fact in what is not written. I do believe the scriptures are the final authority....so when it comes to religious matters if things do not stand the test of scripture than I will remain focused on what is...not what might be.

God gave us His word thru the scriptures, which can and does apply to all areas of our life. Other writings can inspire us or enlarge on what is written...but when it comes to that which is of a spiritual nature it is always best to adhere to what He has revealed in the scriptures.

As for Marys death...frankly if God thought it was important we know how she died...and anything other than she gave birth to Christ... I am certain He would have made that clear...otherwise it is simply not that important....

re: No wonder Islam is growing faster and bigger than the Catholic Church.

That's an erroneous claim. The Muslims are all divided among themselves just like the Protestants, Eastern Orthodox, and ALL religions except one. The Catholic Church is one. If 800 million Catholics died tomorrow, it would still be the worlds largest religion.

The Bible emphatically condemns the use of tradition as a source of authority because whenever tradition is set up alongside of Scripture, it eventually competes for the greater position and replaces it. It then is used to reinterpret Scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 .......All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Suffice to say....Complete means just that, nothing else is needed to be function and mature in ones relationship to God except a willing heart and taking the time to read and study.

We are warned ..... “not to go beyond what is written,”... 1 Cor.4:6.

The first martyr of the Church Stephen prayed to Jesus to receive his spirit in Acts 7:59... contrary to this Catholics today pray “obtain for us oh Mary the grace for eternal salvation.”..... This shows they don’t possess it yet and are depending on a mere human to obtain for them by the privilege of being the Saviors mother....... To do this is to ignore Jesus in His office of savior, in His high priestly role today and as our soon coming King.

Nothing in Scripture ever indicates that Mary had prayers offered to her. no Catholic can ever prove this from the Bible only from the additions added on by the church.

How can you say this??? The catholic church itself has numerous branches and they can differ considerably from that which Rome teaches....Take a look at the Haitian Catholics who incorporate Voo-doo into their catholic faith. In fact a Voodoo priest must first agree to become a catholic before he is given the title of a Voo-doo Priest. I doubt most catholics will adhere to their church and yet they are indeed monetary recipients of monies from the catholic church.

There is not a list of the books of the Bible in any book of the Bible. However, there is a list of Mary’s ancestors in Matthew 1, a list of supervisors of the allotment in Numbers 34, and a list of priests and Levites who returned with Zerubbabel in Nehemiah 12. But isn’t it important that we Christians know, for sure, which books belong in Scripture, so we know what inspired writings are to be relied upon for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness?

"Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus." (I Tim 1:13)

Paul taught Timothy through words Timothy heard, not solely through writings.

I and many others have no problem accepting the scriptures as we have them today in there entirety. Many have sought to determine the question of which books belong among the Scriptures.....if one looks into both sides of the issues concerning this it does not take long to determine and see that “other” so called books/writings were never quoted by the apostles or Christ. That's a pretty good indication in and of itself. Of course there are other tests one can also use to determine this....many of the other books are fairy tale type stories and though might be an interesting read they do not have the affect on the soul I have found in the scripture as we have it now.

There is also the lineage of Joseph given in addition to Mary...and with good reason...we find throughout the old and new testament the complete historical record of the lineage of Christ....and important that that be so for obvious reasons.

When we look at the example of the O.T. Scriptures, there was no oral tradition passed down at the same time that was equal to what the scribes penned.... Not for David,.... Moses.... or any of the prophets..... So why should we think there would be for the church?.... God gave Moses the record and it was written down so there would be no discrepancies.....And least we forget when the Pharisees said their traditions were handed down Jesus challenged them.

Although the path may be different, the conclusion you arrived at seems to be the same as that arrived at by the (Catholic) Councils of Carthage that had taken place in the early 4th century.

Jesus in Mt. 23:3 tells his disciples to do whatever the scribes and Pharisees, sitting in Moses’ seat, bid them to do, yet not to follow the example of their conduct.

Well of course you must continue beyond that verse to place it in context....

“Everything they do is of men to see”
“They tie up heavy burdens and put these on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.”
“They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long...they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues.”
“They love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them “Rabbi”

Now this looks allot like Catholic leadership does it not?

to continue....”You have only one Master and you are brothers. And do not call anyone on earth “Father” for you have one Father and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called teacher, for you have One teacher.....THE CHRIST.

Jesus then continues with the “woes” of those very “teachers” you quote from.....

He calls them hypocrites.....blind guides....blind fools...blind men....you snakes...you brood of vipers...

...and just to Clarify Jesus’s instruction concerning Moses’ seat.....they taught the law but were miserable failures themselves. So Jesus was pointing to the Law of Moses as good but not to the Pharisees and religious teachers teaching it. For it is the law which identifies when we sin...and which leads us to repentance and Christ for salvation. How would they know if they were sinning if there were no law?......Additionally Christ was with them and had not yet been crucified or arose....so the need to see their sin, as is for us today, was all the more important as Christ time was drawing near.

I am not familiar with them...nor about that happening...assuming it was a meeting of catholic leadership of some sort at that time. Over the centuries they have held many such meetings in determing the course they believe the church should take on doctrine and issues...but I am not catholic so these are not familiar to me for the most part.

Thanks for the analysis, and for stating clearly something we aren't disputing: "it is the law which identifies when we sin." (Maybe someday we'll get to dialogue about Romans too. :) So, from there, on to where we see things a bit differently....

First, though, I want to say I agree with you that seeing the context can indeed help in aiding our understanding. That is where I get hung up here, since Jesus called out the Scribes and Pharisees as hypocrites (all throughout Matthew 23, but also elsewhere). If, as you are suggesting, the Scribes and Pharisees taught only what everybody already knew (the Law of Moses as already established, presumably in writing, although I don't think literacy was a requirement for being under the Law, was it?), why did Jesus urge his disciples specifically to follow these hypocrites' teaching (it's right there, at the beginning of the chapter in which they are called hypocrites time after time, so it's not like we're talking unrelated parts of Scripture) rather than just telling the disciples to follow the Law of Moses?

My bad. I got the century wrong: it's the beginning of the 5th. Anyway, here's something on this leadership conference. I admit, it's from a Catholic source and therefore subject to a high level of scrutiny, but I think it will hold up. :)

He was speaking to the crowd and his diciples...so here we have Him telling them to pay attention to what the law says....in other words pay attention to what the scriptures say...what is written..what they knew or if they didn’t to pay attention.....and also that as he listed off the woes etc. he clearly was telling them their teachers were frauds....

People were listening to the false doctrines taught by the Pharasees and these were not convicting people rather they were a chain around their neck.....as is done still today we are taught to pay attention to the scriptures, what Christ says....

You cannot follow fraudulant teaching which is not supported by the scriptures......the only way one can not be deceived and led astray is to know what the scriptures say....Jeusus pointed them to the Law of Moses which was the ten commandments...he then points out the frauds the Pharasees were.
