Archaeologists and art restorers using new laser technology have discovered what they believe are the oldest paintings of the faces of Jesus Christs Apostles. The images in a branch of the catacombs of St Tecla near St Pauls Basilica, just outside the walls of ancient Rome, were painted at the end of the 4th century or the start of the 5th century.

And they painted these 350 year old men based on....... legend?
What's interesting is these depictions of Peter and Paul are quite similar (almost identical) to those seen in much of 6th and 7th century Byzantine art.
The unidentified person looks like a child. I think it might be a depiction of Jesus as a child with the lambs. His left hand is lifted as in a blessing.
