Claire is the three year old granddaughter of my nephew, Tim and his wife, Susie. Claire lives in Texas with her mom and dad Tiffany and Tyler.
Yesterday she was found floating in a pool ... I do not know details beyond that bare and stark fact.
She is now at Children's Hospital, but the family in CA is unsure if this is in Houston or Dallas. She is on the ventilater 50% of the time and off it breathing on her own the other 50%.
She is on a cooling pad to keep brain swelling down if possible.
Please join my family in prayer for Claire and her sisters, Autumn and Heidi and our whole clan.

I learned of Claire today and have read all the blog entries. She and her entire family are in my prayers. You already have a miracle: She is still alive! Living through the rest of the details will probably be agony for all of you. But, today she is alive, moving, responding. I thank God for that.
Our grandson was born two years ago with a birth defect. We were crushed at first, but took to heart the nurses’ advice: “Enjoy your baby.” We have, and have been richly rewarded with his gains, each one of which is a miracle to us. The circumstances of his life are different from most children, but they are our “new normal.” Each day we have him is a delight.
May God grant you patience, the hardest thing to come by in your situation. Our prayers will continue for Claire and all of you.

I know that I have seemed remiss on Claire, but the reasons are real and mostly uneventful. Today, Claire will be moved to Baylor Children's House for rehab, if possible.
Over the last several days, Claire has been being withdrawn from meds -- the paralytics, the pain meds and some of the relaxants.
She has experienced extreme posturing of her limbs and was even put in braces to prevent damage to her arms. She had one episode where she actually reached for the tracheal tube to try to remove it, which of course resulted in more restraints on the baby girl. The withdrawal symptoms are painful for all who surround her.
Tyler has asked for special prayers for the next day because Claire will have so many eventful happenings, to include the move and surgery to "install" a button for feeding and eliminate the tubes through her nose.
The news is not filled with great expectations but with Faith and of course, gratitude for all of the prayers.
One exciting and hopeful event in all of this was Claire making real eye contact with Dad. Her distended and dilated pupils wandered across her Father's face and contracted as she made and held eye contact with Tyler. The doctors and family felt and feel this is a reason for hope and shows some slight function of her brain.
They are open to the suggestion that came from here, for hypnosis tapes and already are filling her sense of smell with that of Mom and Dad and her sisters.
The early days of the Martin family were filled with the intercessions of the Archangels Michael and Raphael. In this case, which seems to be non-progressing as we would hope, I especially ask for the intercession of the Archangel Raphael on behalf of this baby.

PRAYERS GOING UP!
THE TWENTY-THIRD PSALM
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."

Another suggestion: When they read aloud to Claire, I suggest they read poetry (like Dr. Seuss books and Mother Goose — and especially, in my opinion, Shel Silverstein). Hearing rhymes increases a child’s attention span because they learn to listen for the pattern.
Then there are Christian poem prayers like:
Thank you for the world so sweet
Thank you for the food we eat
Thank you for the birds that sing
Thank you God for everything.
Amen
When my daughter was little, I found this version that I love! (It was the first poem/prayer she learned by heart. She stopped me one night when I started to read it to her, and recited it to me instead. A wonderful surprise!)
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
When in the morning light I wake
Show me the path of love to take.
Amen
