Things Mormon women can do to reduce stress
Mormon Times ^ | May 5, 2010 | Sharon Haddock

PROVO, Utah -- The over-scheduled, over-involved and over-whelmed Mormon woman needs to do two things to de-stress, said two speakers at the recent Women's Conference at BYU: simply life and ask for God's help. "God placed us here to succeed," Sarah Westerberg said. "But mortality will cause stress. It's a natural byproduct."

SNIP

Her advice included...letting go of what cannot be controlled and ridding life of perfectionism.

She suggested adding two words to a working vocabulary: "Who cares?"

Meeker said. "With the Lord's help, we're equal to any task." As a Christian, can you agree with her on this last sentence?

You need to understand that on KEY Book of Mormon passages, some are congruent with Biblical teachings; others are downright hostile. (You know, it's kind of like the flim-flam man, who shows a stack of bills, and the first two on the top & bottom are genuine, but inside the rest are somethin' fierce counterfeit)

Mormon speakers are often able to reach into the first such "section" of BoM passages. So by my acknowledgement that the Meeker comment you pointed out is congruent with the Bible, so what? I mean, there's BoM passages of a similar nature congruent with the Bible. Here, let me show you a few:

...For if there be one among you that doeth good, he shall work by the power and gifts of God...by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. (Moroni 10:25,32)

Likewise, in the middle of 2 Nephi 1:10, Smith talked about "men...having power given them to do all things by faith..." (This one is a two-handed "compliment" about God -- first, He gave the power to operate, and secondly He is the object of faith rebounding back to that power He gave)

So in these verses? Who gets the credit? Who is glorified? God is!

But the great tenor of Mormon teaching focuses on comments by Spencer W. Kimball and other Lds "prophets" about lifting yourself up spiritually by your own bootstraps. (The word "bootstraps" is even commonly utilized). It's reflected in verses like Helaman 12:24 in the Book of Mormon, where Smith taught that "men might be brought to...good works, that they might be restored unto grace for grace, according to their works.

So here you have Mormon women, oft with a large household. They struggle like other families; but other families don't have...
...things like the genealogical weight upon their shoulders, where there's more focused obsession with the dead than with any people group ever to live!
...the temple ritualism on top of other spiritual expectations;
...temple recommend interrogations & interviews (some of the Q resemble interviews; others interrogations)
...then you add "normal" "Bible-motivated" activitiy like relief society work, etc.;
...and then on top of it all, they are told in Hel. 12:24 that what makes them "eligible" for God's grace is their works...

...That, my friend, is perfectionism. Thinking you can earn God's grace by way of works. It makes a disgrace of God's grace.

(It's no wonder Utah women have a reputation higher than other states for being on anti-depressants)

Because you do not understand you assume that is what it means which you are totally wrong!

THIS is your explanation for not knowing what Joseph Smith learned was UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANism?

The eternal covenant is being made to and between man and God and women and God not Husband and wife!

Huh?

Are you now saying that MORMON men and women are NOT 'sealed' for all eternity in those ritualistic Temple® 'weddings'?

Resty, concubines had no “rights” to either say “yes” or “no” to either sleeping with a master, or the husband of their mistress (female master), or to reject anybody in the household claiming the sexual relationship would be a more permanent “covenant” arrangement.

You know Mormons are in trouble when they say Joseph Smith modeled his sexual relationships after how slave girls were treated in the Bible!
_____________________________________________

And this is an accurate depiction of women in mormonism, and the mormon afterlife...

Women are just sex slaves...

They dont get to say NO..

They have no rights...

Women are just concubines..

The “husband” is the master, the sheik of the harem, kingdom, the king of his own planet..

Women in mormonism dont even have the freedom to decide where they will spend eternity...

She can be the bestest mormon woman of the lot...even the president of the Relief Society...or the wife of the “prophet”...

But on a whim the “master” can decide he doesnt want her to come with him to his afterlife planet, and shes toast...

In fact when she dies, she will not know her “master” is going to call her out of the grave by the secret name she and 1000s of other women share...

In Christianity women are assured of salvation...

In mormonism, women are stressed out and wondering...

Kid we dont have to “understand” the mormon “ordinance”

Even God Himself doesnt understand it...

We just have to know of it...

To know it stinks to high heaven...

and is not of God...

Resty I am not denying the Bible I said your interpretation is wrong. It is wrong because you are not apparently aware of any historical context or aware of customs of the time.

Do you have any concept of “historical concepts and customs”? Your interpretation of these versus is totally void of “history and customs” of the time.

Just to remind you of what I said.

The eternal covenant is being made to and between man and God and women and God not Husband and wife!

Thanks for pointing out that in a mormon temple marriage the vows are not made between husband and wife.

SEALER: Brother _________, do you take Sister _________ by the right hand and receive her unto yourself to be your lawfully wedded wife, for time and all eternity, with a covenant and promise that you will observe and keep all the laws, rites, and ordinances pertaining to this holy order of matrimony in the new and everlasting covenant; and this you do in the presence of God, angels, and these witnesses of your own free will and choice?

Link

It sure sounds like the covenant is with the mormon church rather than God, since HE doesn't require men and women to "observe and keep all the laws, rites, and ordinances pertaining to this holy order of matrimony in the new and everlasting covenant".

Just another example of the unChristian rites of the mormon church

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS - SECTION 132

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, as also plurality of wives. HC 5: 501–507. Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.

WOW

No cleaving eh ???

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Genesis 2:24

“Haven’t you read,” He replied, “that at the beginning God ‘made them male and female,’and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”? Matthew 19:4-6

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united (cleave) to his wife, Mark 10:7

Poor mormon mommas...Sunday is fast Sunday in the mormon church, so the cute little kids making breakfast for their mommies will be cheated out of all the fun.

Oh well, they held general conference on Easter Sunday and put Jesus on the back-burner, so the moms are not the only ones in second place, and THEY are used to it anyway.

The commitment is made by each brother and sister to the Lord and the sealing and blessings comes from the Lord.

Really? Where, in this does it state a committment to "the Lord"?

"with a covenant and promise that you will observe and keep all the laws, rites, and ordinances pertaining to this holy order of matrimony in the new and everlasting covenant; and this you do in the presence of God, angels, and these witnesses

It states "in the presence of God, angels and witnesses." Does NOT say "with a covenant and promise TO GOD"....the mormon God is relegated to being a witness..along with the others...which is fitting, since the mormon God was once just a man.
