When Glenn Beck told listeners of his radio show on March 2 that they should "run as fast as you can" from any church that preached "social or economic justice" because those were code words for Communism and Nazism, he probably thought he was tweaking a few crunchy religious liberals who didn't listen to the show anyway. Instead he managed to outrage Christians in most mainline Protestant denominations, African-American congregations, Hispanic churches, and Catholics...

God has commanded us to do these ordinances.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
I do the ordinances because
a. God has commanded me to do them and
b. because I love God.
Whatever He does or doesn’t give me is up to Him.
If it’s sitting on a cloud, cleaning latrines, or being eternally pregnant, that’s His choice.
That may sound like I’m doing a little soft shoe, but that is why I do it. I try to follow His will the best I can and where I fall short, the Lord’s atonement will make up for it, if it’s God’s will.
Love Him ...and
Love one another.
What do all these ordinances do that prove your love more than mine? Ordinance keeping - commandment keeping is to exhibit your fallibility and your sinfulness. It is to show you that you cannot possibly keep all your covenants with Him.
His love and grace has covered you if you believe in Him for your salvation. And by "salvation" I mean it in the Christian vernacular. ;)
Thanks for this post, urroner.
I believe that to commit the unpardonable sin and thus be a son of perdition, you have to knowingly rebel and fight against God and Christ with a perfect knowledge of what you are doing.
From Doctrine and Covenants Section 76:
31 Thus saith the Lord concerning all those who know my power, and have been made partakers thereof, and suffered themselves through the power of the devil to be overcome, and to deny the truth and defy my power
32 They are they who are the sons of perdition, of whom I say that it had been better for them never to have been born
The only group not covered are the people who left Mormonism. Once professing belief in the Mormon doctrine, they subsequently rejected Mormonism. They are called apostates or sons of perdition. They too will be resurrected but many, if not all, will be sent to Outer Darkness. (Outer Darkness is the name Mormonism gives to the domain of Satan and his legions.) These apostates are the only people sent to eternal existence with the devil. In speaking of Outer Darkness, the original Mormon prophet Joseph Smith said This is the case with many apostates of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (quoted in Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual, p. 358).
Now I actively speak against Mormonism as a damnable Christian heresy.
Would you say that I qualify as a son of perdition? If I was a Melchizedek Priesthood holder like SZonian would I then be a son of perdition?
Do you not dare name one who is? Give us an example of who is a Son of Perdition, if you can.
They have nothing to do with rather I love him more or even less than you do. How do we show God our love of Him. It’s by keeping His commandments.
I realize that no matter what I do, I will fall short, hence the reason for the Atonement. This is where Christ makes up for our short comings, which, in my case, is pretty significant.
That is not only the summary of the commandments, but it’s the summary for the Law and the Prophets, which is the Old Testament and it wraps up all of scriptures anyway.
I know that it’s impossible for me to keep all His commandments all the time. I have said that I could, but it’s like when Peter saw Christ walking on the stormy sea. Peter jumped out of the boat and walked a couple of steps on the water and then he failed, he started to sink. His fears made him fail, but Christ reached out and lifted him up and they walked back to the boat together. Peter may have failed here, but he wasn’t a failure.
Again, before the Crucifixion, Peter denied Christ three times. He failed, but he still wasn’t a failure. Christ, once again, extended Peter his hand, and Peter took it. It’s not a matter of not keeping all of God’s commandments, it’s a matter of doing our best and taking the hand that Christ has extended us like he did to Peter and he probably extended a loving hand of help to Peter a lot of times.
Bingo.
Mormonism doesn’t want to come right out in the open and say you and I are doomed to outer darkness. But there it is, right from the horses mouth.
Another post to immortalize! Chris's atonement makes up the difference. Sheesh!
Jesus' commandments were condensed into loving God all your being and your neighbor as your self. Where in the Bible does Jesus teach modern temple ordinances because what is being performed in secret was not performed in the temple of Jesus' day (or before).
JS said it, it’s fact/doctrine (according to Mormonism).
Good point. I was just going to say that Christ never commanded me to do ordinances. In fact, quite the opposite. Christ’s atonement tore the veil between God in the Holy of Holies so that we may approach God in relationship and not through Temple sacrifices. The Temple was no more.
Mormonism negates the atonement and replaces Grace with ‘Temple ordinances, obedience and covenants.’ They negate the atonement by saying things like “Christ makes up the difference.”
I cannot know who would be a son of perdition, only God has the right to make that judgement.
The only two people I believe that are identified in scripture as Perdition are Lucifer and Cain. (D&C 76:26; Moses 5:24)
Both rebelled against God willingly and knowingly.
Jesus refers to Judas as the Son of Perdition (John 17:12) and said that it were better for him that he had not been born. (Matthew 26:24)
Norman - please address point #2 below -
The followers of Satan who will suffer with him in eternity. Sons of perdition include (1) those who followed Satan and were cast out of heaven for rebellion during premortality, and (2) those who were permitted to be born to this world with physical bodies but then served Satan and turned utterly against God. Those in this second group will be resurrected from the dead but will not be redeemed from the second (spiritual) death and cannot dwell in a kingdom of glory (D&C 88: 32, 35).

Is not turning away from mormonism after being once a mormon considered being ‘utterly against God’ as many of your prophets have taught as well.
What does it take?
Yet you state, "That is wrong."
What have you done to show WHY it's wrong?
Simple question - is the AUSTRALIAN BoM written with DIFFERENT words than the AMERICAN original?
I’m confused. Are you wanting me to comment on someone else’s comments?
But...
WHY not?
Is not turning away from mormonism after being once a mormon considered being utterly against God as many of your prophets have taught as well.
No, there are people who leave Mormonism who I don’t believe turn “utterly against God”.
