The Bible's Amazing Scientific Accuracy and Foresight

Even though the Bible was completed 2,000 years ago, long before the invention of the microscope, the telescope, satellites, etc. it does not contain any scientific errors. This might be considered a miracle in itself. Without exception, every ancient religious writing has certain unscientific views of astronomy, medicine, hygiene, etc. The Qur’an says in Surah 18:86 that the sun sets in a muddy spring. Qur’an 18:86 “…when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring” The only exception to these kinds of errors, among ancient religious writings, is the Bible.

Not only is the Bible free from scientific errors, it miraculously makes known numerous, accurate scientific facts about the universe thousands of years before modern scientists caught up. There are lots of them. For time’s sake I will give you a few quick examples.

A. The Sun

In contrast to the Qur’an, the Bible teaches that the sun is actually on a circuit through space. Writing of the sun in Psalm 19:6, David said, “Its rising is from one end of heaven, and its circuit to the other end.” For many years critics scoffed at this verse, claiming that it taught that the sun revolves around the earth. Scientists at that time thought the sun was stationary. However, it has been discovered in recent years that the sun is in fact on a circuit through space, just like the Bible says.

B. The Shape of the Earth

When the rest of the world believed the earth was flat, Isaiah declared that the world was round… Isaiah 40:22 “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth." The Hebrew word there for circle [“chuwg”] literally means “sphere.” When did Isaiah write these words? Between 740 and 680 B.C. That was at least 300 years before Aristotle suggested, in his book On the Heavens, that the earth might be a sphere. Other verses are Proverbs 8:27 and Job 26:10. More than 2,000 years later some people still believed that Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) was going to sail off the edge of a flat planet in 1492!

C. The Suspension of the Earth

Before Isaac Newton discovered gravity Hindus believed that the earth rested on the back of an elephant who stood on the back of a turtle that was swimming in a great endless sea. The Greeks believed that the mythical god Atlas carried the earth on his shoulders. What did the Bible say? In one of the oldest books in the Bible, Job said in Job 26:7, “He [God] hangs the earth on nothing.” Scientists did not discover that the earth hangs on nothing until 1650. ... John 1:1 wouldn’t be in a Bible with everything, but the Beatitudes removed.... and John 1:1 does not document the Adam’s curse and the sinful state of man, our need for salvation, God sending His Son, his death, and resurrection.

In your faith journey, I urge you to just ask yourself these questions:

1) What is the point of the Bible? If any?
2) What does Jesus Christ mean to you?

3) If you died tonight and were to stand before God at judgment, why should he let you into Heaven?

"John 1:1 wouldn’t be in a Bible with everything, but the Beatitudes removed...."

God does not teach through Scripture alone. Jesus' message was not for learned priests and cannon lawyers. Salvation is not some cryptic message to be deciphered by the uber-clever to gain the reward of heaven only if they find the complete message. Jesus shunned those and preached to the poor, uneducated and the infirmed who were deemed unworthy by the keepers of Scripture. He turned over the money changer's table because they were following the literal meaning of scripture and not its message. Accepting him with the innocence of a Child is more relevant than understanding Him with the skill of a law professor.

I hope you take your advice and reflect on your own words and statements. What does “accepting him” mean? And what was Christ’s core message? What was the MESSAGE behind ALL his messages? What did He come to the world to do?!

What did Paul try to preach through his foolish preaching? What was his main point? What sets Christianity apart from EVERY OTHER WORLD RELIGION? You can find “feed the poor” “be charitable” “strive for justice” in other religions too you know. So what set the message of CHRIST apart?

A lawyer asked Jesus: "Which commandment is the greatest of all?" Jesus answered from the Old Testament: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Jesus added a second command, that we must love our neighbor as ourself. Then he explained that every other law of God was based on these two laws.

I think the Bible got Pi wrong.

No, the Masoretic text has it as perfect as is necessary for general construction; the numeric value of the characters given for the circumference was 31-5/12 cubits, resulting in a pi value of 3.142, which is close enough for all but the most pricise needs. The KJV, and all subsequent English versions had incompletely translated the value due to a lack of understanding of Hebrew numbers, but the KJV was never used to build any lavers.

Why no mention of the galaxy through which the Sun makes it's circuit?"

Galaxies are irrelevant to the question, since the galaxy is itself in a similar state of motion.

Just one more ignorant attack by the evogate conspirators!

Remember, you're dealing with someone whose science is as defective as his grammar.

I’m not even going to read all the responses, because I can see that this has the makings of a flame thread, but I too have pondered these things. I am not a Bible literalist for pre-Exodus Scripture, but I have noted how Genesis gets the order of Creation down in a very accurate way:

1. The void

Light (big bang)

separate light/darkness (star formation/unfilled space)

2. waters under the firmament, heaven above the firmament (planet formation)

3. dry land (continents)

seas (oceans)

vegetation (plants, perhaps single cell?)

4. light in... the heavens (visible stars through a clearing atmosphere)

greater/lesser light in heaven (sun/moon)

5. sea monsters, birds

6. cattle, creeping things

man

When you think about it, this description follows very closely the path put forth by scientists (cosmologists, evolutionists, etc) There would have been no reason for unscientific man in the time before Moses to have naturally postulated this order of progression. To me, it is astounding that it tracks what modern science tells us so closely.

“The One greater than Moses has come with a LAW greater than than the Law of Moses. He’s not going to lower the bar, he’s going to RAISE it. He’s going to raise it...”

“...But this King is going to come to you, with words quite different than you ever imagined, words that at first will seem almost easier than the Law of Moses. And then as you grow, you’ll begin to understand, these are the most difficult sayings I have ever heard. They cost more from me than the Law of Moses ever could.”

Law of Moses says “Tithe” ; Law of CHRIST says “If your brother’s in need, sell everything you have and give it to him.”

Law of Moses says “Give God a day”; JESUS said “Give Him EVERY MOMENT of your life.”

Every beat of your heart that does not beat unto the Glory of GOD is apostate. You see how the standard’s raised?

Great video (and very short)

(Let’s not throw around the word “Love” the way say, John Lennon did.)

I suspect that we are never going to fully agree on the interpretation and role of Scripture in Christ’s Church, the continuing role of the Holy Spirit, or on the subject of Apostolic succession. That doesn’t preclude us from being brothers and sisters in Christ.

right...well HITLER was a Darwinist (read Mein Kampf) and so was STALIN and Margaret Sanger and all other sorts of major mass murderers—is Darwinism also wrong?

Whether a few crazy psychos have misused Christianity for their own interests doesn’t change whether the Bible is the truth or not. In fact it just proves the Bible’s point that all men are desperately rotten and wicked and in need of a savior. It also proves the Bible’s point that there are lots of “wolves in sheep’s clothing”—people who pretend to be believers, but are actually doing the work of Satan.

XEHRpa, and that is exactly why when scientists challenge “religion” and “faith”, they’re being misleading. They don’t have a problem with ALL religious texts or ALL “faiths”, it’s just one. All the other religious texts are too blatantly false and disprovable scientifically. All other faiths are too wishy washy to be offensive or too crazy to be taken seriously.

The God of the Bible is SCARY. Why would anyone want to love Him? And Christianity is the most all-or-nothing religion out there. CHrist says he’s the only way to God—He’s the ONLY way to Heaven.

Anyhow, here’s why ultimately realized an “old earth” is contradictory to the Bible. This is a re-paste from a previous response I posted.

Okay this will be a kind-of-long response, but here goes. I hope you read each point just so you can understand where I’m coming from. :)

As Macarthur reminds us, at a certain point, even “science” ceases to be science and becomes a relgious viewpoint—because it is no longer subject to empirical evidence.

“The conflict between science and Scripture comes when science steps outside the realm of that which is observable and reproducible and speculates on origins, values, and destinies. AT THAT POINT science has ceased to be science and instead become a religious viewpoint, since those things are not subject to observation and experimentation.”

Now...

** Here are some things to consider **

1) In his letter to the Romans, Saint Paul reminds us that there was no death. THat’s right, there was NO DEATH before Adam sinned. It teaches that the actions of one man, Adam, brought death into the world and that the entire creation has suffered the consequences.”

* 12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned...* ~ Romans 5:12

2) Evolutionists, on the other hand believe that death has been going on for millions of years. It requires the death of billions of animals and prehistoric men slowly evolving to bring humans into existence.

3) I could go on and on and get all expository, but to put it simply: CHRIST, God made man, the WORD made Flesh. Jesus CHRIST came to defeat SIN and DEATH. He came to reverse the damage and havoc Adam’s sin wreaked upon humanity.

“17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.” ~ Romans 5:17

4) To believe that death existed independent of Adam’s sin and not as a direct result of his sin undermines the climactic role Christ’s death and resurrection, the centerpiece of all history and eternity. The theory undermines the saving work of Christ and its implications for the human race AND our decaying and dying world—as even plants and animals die thereby bear the consequences of man’s sin.

“20For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. “ ~ Romans 8: 20-21

"My point is, the story of creation - God forming everything out of nothing, sounds a lot like the Big Bang Theory."

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God created everything out of nothing. - The initial description is of a cold dark, deep mass that was expanded in an orderly fashion, and no 'bang' was involved. Also there was no light until later on. A bang would have been just about all light and radiation at first.

You should at the very least investigate your OWN claims and really ponder your OWN statements.

DO YOU actually love GOD with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength?

DO YOU love others? Including those who are hardest to love?

If God held you accountable on those two things alone, would you “make the cut” so to speak?

Jonah and the fish is not an allegory, it is a “type” of the death burial and ressurection of Christ. Jonah was dead and carried three days in the fish. It was a true event that prophecied the future. Jonah’s arrival brought about the salvation of Ninevah.
