But is it a good thing to turn away the wayward rather than working to change their minds?

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 5:32

So what’s little Patrick’s beef? If you don’t abide by the doctrines of your faith, you can be disciplined by your faith.

Is he mad at a Catholic bishop not being politically correct?

I can explain it in terms that even Patrick can understand. If he had voted the wrong way on Nancy Pelosi’s healthcare bill, he would have been disciplined by her. It’s the same when you belong to a church. A church has doctrines that followers are expected to believe in. If you go against those doctrines, then you are subject to discipline.

Patrick Kennedy doesn’t seem to understand the gravity of the situation here. Mr. Kennedy it playing politics while the Bishop is trying to save his soul.

No matter. He’ll just find a church that will take his money. Problem solved.

It was about time someone took these %$#!! Kennedys to task. Un-P.C. action by a bishop.

Maybe it’ll spread

Healthy discipline is loving and can lead to repentance. The intent is to help someone find their way back to the center of God’s will. In your search for Truth what did you discover about what we as Christians are to do prior to taking Communion?

The bishop's last public word on the matter was Nov 12, it seems.

Dear Congressman Kennedy

The refusal of communion is not a turning away of the sinner, it is a calling of the sinner back. By allowing them to remain in communion while going against church teaching the church is not being charitable. It is not correcting its children and causing scandal amongst it children. By loving the member enough to say you cannot receive until you rethink your position on this issue not only causes the member to rethink and come closer to God, but also shows those remaining faithful that it does matter.

Yes, a little leaven leaveneth the lump. Sinners need to know where they stand before God and allowing communion makes that unclear.

But he’s not being turned away, he simply can’t receive communion. Once he’s ready to actually repent for his sins, then he’ll be accepted once more. To receive the sacrament with repentance is hypocrisy, isn’t it?

I think it is...........if you have no limits, you have no standards.

There is a path back to the fold, once you walk that path you can be a full member again.

This is the best thing I have heard all week.
Some people don’t deserve covering their sins up running to the church.
We had enough of cover up with other members of this family.

I am not Roman Catholic but this seems to me to be a GENUINE case of that old liberal cant; “Speaking Truth to Power!” Would that Mz. Pelosi’s Bishop did the same with her insistence on “Public Option” and “Pro-choice”.

To my understanding Kennedy is still required to attend Mass, in order to hear the Gospel and fulfill his sunday obligation. Also, I seem to recall that the two were supposed to meet but Kennedy declined. I could be wrong about that.

Being denied communion is not the same as being banned from the building. You can attend services and hear the words but unless you are willing to abide by the rules and doctrine ...

Teddy should have had this happen to him years ago, wonder how he is doing now?
