To my understanding Kennedy is still required to attend Mass, in order to hear the Gospel and fulfill his sunday obligation. Also, I seem to recall that the two were supposed to meet but Kennedy declined. I could be wrong about that.

Hopefully your formulation is correct. I’m certainly not against standards, but Jesus didn’t turn people away, so I become concerned when the church appears to be doing so. Hopefully they have a positive outreach program to bring these wayward sheep back into the flock, not just closing the door to what is a central element of Christian worship.
