Catholic / Orthodox ping!
The Miracle Working Icon of The Most Holy Theotokos Vladimir
12th century
It is truly right to bless thee, O Theotokos, ever blessed, and most pure, and the Mother of our God. More honorable than the cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim. Without corruption thou gavest birth to God the Word. True Theotokos, thee we magnify.
Orthodox ping! This is really an excellent article. I can’t say that I am astonished that it is from a Latin Church source, but very nearly so! The insight is fabulous.
Mr. R; here’s an article which will go far to explaining Orthodoxy’s veneration of the The Most Holy Theotokos. Its worth the read!
Bumping...
I believe statements like this one:
suggests the author may be an Eastern Christian whose Church just happens to be in communion with Rome. The insights did not come form the Latin source, or if they did I would be pleasantly surprised.
NYer, who is this Father Samaha? Is he a Maronite or a Latin Catholic?
I meant to say Brother Samaha, not Father Samaha
Here’s an essay penned some years back by HG +Basil, Bishop of the Antiochian Diocese of Wichita and Mid-America.

Excellent. +Basil is one of the “good guys”.
“Mary is our boast, our cause of rejoicing, our sister, our mother, and most of all, our intercessor. Let us honor her, love her, and bring our needs before her with the innocent confidence of children who know that their mother will meet their needs with love.”
Not sure ... perhaps, like my pastor, he is both. He has done extensive writing on St. Maron so my guess is Maronite. However, some of his writings appear on Melkite sites. I found the following information on the Mary of Nazareth web site.
Brother John belongs to the Pacific Province of the Marianists, and is currently working at Villa St Joseph in Cupertino, Calif. Previously he was engaged in high school and adult education in the western states and Lebanon. He is a member and officer of the Mariological Society of America.
Thank you NYer. As I suspsected, unofrtunately such brilliant insight into Eastern Mariology did not come from a Latin cleric. But, it is certainly good that such mindset is being presneted to the rest of the Catholic community by this man. Of course, I am not at all surprized that he also appears on Melkite sites. Thank you again.
I don't have more details than those. One of our families was in that church last Sunday when the priest announced this to the parishioners. The Hindu family was not there that day either. Be that as it may, there is no way that a Hindu family could ever know about St. Charbel.
I notice that at its website, the parish calls itself “Roman Catholic Church - Maronite Rite” I thought the Maronite Church was a sui juris particular church not merely a “rite” in the Roman Catholic Church. When did this change?
Am I wrong?
sun=son, of course!
Nothing has changed. The Maronite Church continues to be sui juris. I know the Miami pastor, Fr. Elie. His congregation is 80% Roman Catholic. There is and has always been great confusion amongst Catholics in this country when the words 'Eastern Church' are used. They are not familiar with the other Churches that are in full communion with the Catholic Church. He chose to go that route to encourage Roman Catholics to consider attending an eastern DL. Our parish is labeled Maronite Catholic Church. Visitors occasionally stumble in and, after witnessing our DL, immediately ask if we are Orthodox. Abouna points to the picture of Pope Benedict XVI on the wall and the word 'Catholic' on our Sunday bulletin. That such a beautiful liturgy is celebrated in a Catholic Church, confounds them.
Since you have been following the progress on the future parish, I thought you might enjoy learning that the women's sodality hosted a Housewarming today at the newly renovated Parish House. Sometime this week, I will post the pictures on my Facebook account. Freepmail me if you have an account, so I can show them to you. Abouna's mother arrived from Lebanon late yesterday and his brother, injured in the attack on Hezbollah two years ago, was also with us today. He is in this country until next year, working with the US military.
What I reported is all that I know. It was the first time the family had ever attended DL at this Church. For the priest to report this story, it means the child's father must have called him to report what had occurred. The family that just returned heard the priest describe what happened, to the congregation. That's all we know.
There was a recent story in CA, of a similar occurence with Hindus. I am hopeful that freeper Salvation will be able to source it out of the FR archives.
Excellent article.
Thank you NYer. I am sure we will all look forward to hearing more about this.
