Poll Question, "How Was the Universe Created Freeper?"
Gate of The City ^ | 9/18/09 | Chuck Ness

One of the hottest topics of contention among Freepers is the Creation/Evolution debate. Well here is a poll that asks all Freepers just where do you stand.

Where do Freepers Stand in the Creation/Evolution Debate
If by chance you are confused as to where you would stand then may I suggest reading the following statements I found at a site called Exploring Constitutional Conflicts, it does a good job of describing what each side believes.

Who is What in the Creation/Evolution Debate

A CREATIONIST:
A creationist is a person who rejects the theory of evolution and believes instead that the each species on earth was put here by a Divine Being. A Creationist might accept "micro-evolution" (changes in the form of a species over time based on natural selection), but rejects the notion that one species can-- over time-- become another species.

YOUNG EARTH CREATIONIST:
A young earth creationist believes that the earth is nowhere near the 4.6 billion or so years old that most scientists estimate, but is instead closer to 6,000 or so years old, based on the assumption the Genesis contains a complete listing of the generations from Adam and Eve to historical times.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN PROPONENT:
An ID proponent might or might not reject the theory of evolution. At a minimum, the ID proponent rejects that evolution is randomly driven or, more generally, the notion that natural law and chance alone can explain the diversity of life on earth.  Instead, the ID proponent argues--often from statistics--that the diversity of life is the result of a purposeful scheme of some higher power (who may or may not be the God of the Bible).

EVOLUTIONIST:
An evolutionist accepts the Darwinian argument that natural selection and environmental factors combine to explain the diversity of life we see on earth. An evolutionist may or may not believe that evolution is the way in which a Divine Being has chosen to work in the world. Evolutionists divide into various camps, including PUNCTUALISTS (who believe that evolution usually occurs sporadically, in relatively short bursts, as the result of major environmental change) and GRADUALISTS (who are more inclined to believe that evolution occurs more evenly, over longer periods of time). The PUNCTUALISTS seem now to be winning the argument.

You are asking two different things here.

The first is the how the Universe was created. You want us to respond with views relative to life on Earth.

You need to either ask how did humans get on Earth or what caused the making of the universe.

There is an option between ID and Evolution that a lot of FReepers including myself subscribe to, Theistic Evolution. Unlike ID which has God intervening at points to ‘push’ evolution along (God in the gaps theory), TE’s basic theory is that God set the entire process in place from the first atom in the first moments in the universe, He didn’t need to come in here and there and push it along (goes along with the idea that God is supernatural- beyond our perception of space/time, and thus, the end, beginning, and everything in between can exist at the same moment for Him, He is not governed by our time-lines.)

TE sees evolution as just one of the processes God put in place.

Pure creationists & evolutionist are both right and wrong. One is way off on time frame, the other is blind to the intent.

One in the same question, as much as you would like, you cannot separate the two.

Evolution answers a different question then how the universe was created. I think evolution is likely. How the universe was created- I have no idea.

Probably along the lines of ID: God created everything, but evolution is part of his plan. He created man when he gave us a soul.

This should be a fun thread for a Friday: I figure I’ll be comdemned to eternal damnation several times before the day is done.

I’m gonna get me a coupla beers and some nachos, sit back and enjoy.

Except that is limited to Micro, TE accepts Micro and Macro as all part of the original design.

Those who believe in God, say He did it ALL.

Now we nay differ in how He did it, but He still did it ALL!

I am between Creationist and Young Creationist. I believe that life and the Earth were created. I do not believe this occurred billions of years ago, but the Biblical account has room for more time than 6000 years. Begat does not necessarily mean father - it could be grandfather or even a more remote relationship.
