A spiritual journey that began seven years ago ended in the sanctuary of a Catonsville convent Sept. 3 when 10 Episcopal nuns and their priest chaplain were received into full communion with the Catholic Church.
In administering the sacrament of confirmation, Archbishop Edwin F. OBrien traced a cross on the foreheads of each candidate as he anointed them with sacred chrism oil and called on them to be sealed with the Holy Spirit. The sisters then renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as some 120 worshipers looked on.

Why did the Nuns leave the Episcopal church?
They “renewed vows of obedience.” Yet I am assuming they had vowed to be obedient to the Episcopals?
Not that I’m a fan of the direction of the Episcopal church. Perhaps their vow was conditional. Similar to a marriage vow - adultery for example is generally acknowledged as a biblical basis for divorce.
This is nun too funny.
They said their “witness to orthodoxy” was not “well recieved”. They were frustrated with the ordination of women, gays, and the lack of a stand for a strong morality, in the episcopal church.
They left the Episcopal church because (in their words) they did not approve of the moral laxity that they witnessed, the lack of orthodoxy, and because of the ordination of a “gay” Episcopal Bishop.
As far as “renewing” their vows. I don’t think they originally made their vows to the Episcopal church, per se — they, most likely, made their vows to Christ. The can renew their vows to Christ within the structure of the Catholic Church. No conflict, as far as I can see.
Welcome Sisters, and welcome to their priest.
I’d never heard of an order of consecrated religious women in the Episcopal Church! To them, and the new Father, I say “Welcome Home!”
They left because it’s a heretical church.
Speaking as a Catholic, I think that this is great news. It’s an extraordinary event, certainly.
Not a Catholic, but I appreciate anyone finding where they belong. Too often folks try to change everyone and everything around them instead of going to where they are better suited.
It is as expected. May the Lord bless them for their stand.
Welcome home! This is wonderful news.
