I’ll be spending my money elswhere than on this dumb movie, or Dan Brown’s popular fictional tripe.

How does one fact-check a fictional movie?

I guess I must be confused. I'm positive that I found this book listed under “Fiction”. What's next, are we going to do some ‘fact finding’ on Star Wars, Predator, Tom Sawyer, Tom Clancy novels and the wonderful Bourne series?

If you don't want to read the books, then don't. If you don't want to see the movie, then don't.

The more you protest, the more ‘free advertising’ you give those you consider to be an enemy. If you simply take the advice that came from the Vatican, and ignore this nonevent; it will become a nonevent. The more you caterwaul and howl, the more people will go to this movie to see what all the hoopla is about.

It would not be an overstatement to say that Brown's writing is the worst prose style I have ever encountered in a popular edition, with the possible exception of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series.

Ouch -- collateral damage alert to Twilight Fans!!!

Here we go again. Those with lesser ability who resent Dan Brown try to castigate him as a no talent hack.

Brown makes no claim that his work is historical; which explains a lot about why his books are found in the FICTION section of the bookstore. Good fiction entwines elements of the known world (i.e. history, real places, real people, etc.) with a yarn built on events that COULD HAVE happened.

We get treated to fiction every day of the year - in the form of Glow Bull Warming hysteria “reports” (”Scientists say earth’s temperature COULD increase by 25 degrees in the next hundred years if greenhouse gases are not reduced”; “Gore says earth COULD have only 10 years left!”; etc., etc.). THIS is fiction that the anti-Dan Brown fiction people LOVE!!! It’s ok to spread THIS FICTION - it’s just not ok to write fiction about the fundamental teachings of either Christianity or the Catholic Church!! This hysteria is so bad, I’m waiting for one of the anti-Dan Brown crowd to start piling on L. Frank Baum and the Oz stories. (Note to the purists who believe that ALL books must be based on proven facts - the Oz stories sell better and are more interesting reads!)

Personally, I enjoy Dan Brown’s work. It makes for a good read, tells an interesting story and, when I finish the book, I put it away and pick up another book.

The fact is this - Dan Brown’s stories (Angels and Demons; the Da Vinci Code) are so well written, that the Pope and the Vatican feel the need to come out and flame them. When an author can attract publicity at that level (especially for works of fiction), who needs a press agent or a business manager!!?? You have the Pope AND the Vatican selling your books for you. Show me another no talent hack who can do that!!

It’s a movie based on a novel. These are what’s known as “fiction”. Fiction often contains elements of “truthiness” for verisimilitude, but should never be confused with non-fiction.

Hit & run Reply:

It’s a NOVEL! Why would anyone want to fact check a fictional work?

I haven’t read or seen A&D, but I read DaVinci code and liked it, though I never once believed it to be factual or historical.
