ANGELS & DEMONS: THE ANTI-CATHOLIC AGENDA
March 4, 2009
Catholic League president Bill Donohue exposes the anti-Catholic agenda of Angels & Demons (the movie opens May 15): John Calley, co-producer with Brian Grazer of both The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, told the New York Times that the former movie was conservatively anti-Catholic. According to the Times, Grazer wants Angels & Demons to be less reverential than The Da Vinci Code. Which means he wants it to be liberally anti-Catholic. Author Dan Brown says of his latest film, Its certainly not anti-Catholic. So could it be that he simply finds Catholicism fascinating, and loves to weave dramatic tales about it, harboring no animus whatsoever? The evidence suggests otherwise. Besides the fact that both producers admit their films are anti-Catholic, we now know, thanks to Father Bernard OConnor, that their sentiments are typical of those working on the latest movie. OConnor hung out with the film crew last summer for two days when they were filming in Rome; he was dressed casually, so no one knew he was a priest. A person self-described as a production official, told the Canadian priest that Brown spoke for the majority of those working on the movie when he said, Like most of us, he [Brown] often says that he would do anything to demolish that detestable institution, the Catholic Church. He credited the media for the demise of the Church. This same person opined that the Catholic Church is humanitys chief enemy, adding that this sentiment is reflective of those in Hollywood. So the cat is out of the bag. We will soon publish a booklet I wrote that will give the public all the evidence it needs to learn how demonic Angels & Demons really is. If anyone associated with the movie wants to debate me on anything Ive said, I would be glad to do so. |

I thought I deleted the date at the top of the story, but it must have still been in the HTML. Could you please delete it and leave the rest of the title?
Thanks in advance.

Not to mention that Tom Hanks and Ron Howard are notorious liberals.

I saw this film and, although I’m definitely no expert, didn’t find it by any means anti-Catholic. There was some interesting discussion on the subject of faith and there was one bad apple. It was the church itself which was under attack (for being too liberal!) and, of course, our hero saved it.

Donohue is putting out a 15 page booklet about all the lies in this movie. Perhaps you didn’t recognize them because you are not that familiar with Catholic beliefs.
A lot more than “one bad apple.”

The only problem with any controversy is that it would make people perhaps interested in seeing the movie -- which is a bad thing.
I opt for suing the producers of the film. They photographed places in the Vatican that they were forbidden from using in the movie.
Copyright infringement and time for a Class Action Lawsuit...

C’mon folks. The DaVinci Code went after basic precepts of Christendom, and deserved some criticism ... this film was about finding a bomb and using old myths about the “Illuminatae”. In fact, if you follow the script, the “hoax” of the Illuminatae was exposed in the end. This wasn't a slam on the church ... people trying to rile this thing up are just “parrots” carried over from DaVinci. Its a great movie, there are some “learning moments” ... the photography was great and Christendom made some good points against the secular character of Tom Hanks. What was the last thing the arch bishop says to Tom Hanks’ character? What was the character's reply? That says it all. Its too bad this movie won't outsell Davinci ... it is far more entertaining.

** it is far more entertaining. **
Catholics are not concerned with the entertainment factor — although the secular world thinks bashing the Catholic Church IS entertainment.
Brown said above “detestable Catholic Church”. How would you like it if the name of your church were in those quotes and that’s who Dan Brown was coming after. It will happen, you know.
You statement also indicates, for me, that you need more education about Catholicism. Perhaps the log needs to come out of your eye before you talk about the splinter in others eyes. Educate yourself, please.

Brown said above detestable Catholic Church. That's hearsay. Did you read the book?
To: GunRunner
How do you know it’s hearsay?
Here is the priest’s witness to a direct question asked of Brown’s producer:
**A person self-described as a production official, told the Canadian priest that Brown spoke for the majority of those working on the movie when he said, Like most of us, he [Brown] often says that he would do anything to demolish that detestable institution, the Catholic Church. Sorry, FRiend, this looks like the truth to me.

BTW, buying and reading this book would be a waste of money as well as time for me. I don’t need to read Catholic-bashing trash.

How do you know its hearsay? Some guy heard from some other guy that Dan Brown supposedly said something inflammatory about Catholicism while filming a movie you've never seen based on a book you've never read.
Yeah, I'd say that's hearsay.
To: GunRunner
So you are saying that you don’t believe the Canadian priest, correct?
I do.

Maybe the priest, but I'm a lot more skeptical of the so-called 'production official'. You're dealing with a 4th hand account here, the second link of which is unnamed.
I'm skeptical, especially knowing the ax to grind that Donahue has when it comes to movies. I remember everybody went through the same motions with the Da Vinci Code and the Golden Compass movie; it's becoming a worn out routine.
But hey, if you want Donahue to be your personal movie critic and censor, be my guest. He certainly relishes to the role.
