Bigotry against Mormons apparently acceptable in Utah LDS (OPEN)
Salt Lake Tribune ^ | March 20, 2009

Posted on 03/21/2009 8:22:38 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

Here is the response of a Utahn commenting on a Salt Lake Tribune online blog concerning HBO's attempt in its series "Big Love" to increase its revenues by publicly insulting the religious sensitivity of a minority religion: "Anything that gets the LDS "church's magical Mormon underwear in a twist is all right with me!!"

I write for a regional newspaper in Iowa. During the last election campaign, I suggested that Mitt Romney lost the Iowa caucus to Mike Huckabee primarily due to anti-Mormon bigotry. A reader argued that my opinion had no credence because I was a lay leader in the LDS Church.

The writer was either suggesting that I knew exactly what I was talking about and was therefore credible, or that I shouldn't be believed because I was a Mormon, which implies that the writer was a bigot.

-SNIP-

It is obvious to an outsider that Utah, or at least Salt Lake City, has within itself a deeply held culture of bigotry. A bigotry so ingrained in the cultural norm that the readers posting comments to the newspaper's blogs, apparently believing they are freethinking and ironic, are saying things online that would never be allowed into print if written about other groups.

Actually, it turns out that Opie and Andy were both blowhard Democrat Obama supporters.

How many errors and variances are in the Bible?

Come on, Elsie, you seem to be an expert on the Book of Mormon, do you know anything about the Bible?

Or are you a Bible Lite protester?

Nice obfuscation but you present absolutely no evidence for Moses. All you seem able to do is to attack the Book of Mormon.

Go ahead, keep believing that you have to have evidence.

Jesus did not build His Church upon the foundation of Thomas, but he selected Peter and Paul. Which ones had to put their hands into the wounds of Jesus to believe?

Would you be one who had to put his hands into the wounds of Jesus to believe?

None - now that the Founder of MORMONism has CORRECTED the KJV.

Uh... just why is it that the LDS Headquarters in SLC will NOT canonize this book?

I'm sure that you realize that there is ZERO 'evidence' for the Book of Mormon other than a few peoples 'word'; don't you?

MORMONs HAVE to believe the WORDS of a few men - men that in SO many places of their lives are so dallible and error prone.

Good Luck is all I can say those who believe the story(s) of angelic visitation(s?) to Joseph Smith.

Well, you may feel free to ignore all the evidences plus the plain truths plus the answers to prayers.

Protesters are very good at ignoring those things.

Give it up. You must have heard about the 200,000 or so variances in the manuscripts that still exist?

You MUST be talking of the Founder and Leaders of early Mormonism; Right?

They seemed to have 'missed' the ONE man - ONE wife thing the BIBLE and the Book of Mormon BOTH talk about.

I believe the BoM to be a work of fiction by a delusional man. The pavement stones are present in Jerusalem where Jesus walked - were in the americas are the same stones?

Oh well this is choice - denying the existance of Jesus are you now as compared to physical evidence. I guess that is all you are left with when you try to defend a book that was in the final analysis of mormon church historian BH Roberts to be a 19th century myth.

According to your standards, the Bible is a myth because there is little to no archeological evidence of Jesus Christ.

Remember, that’s your rules, not mine.

I believe in God the Father, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

See, the shoe is on the other foot now. Not only have you presented yourself as a protester, you, by your rules, deny Christ.

If you'd like, you could cut and paste it into a Freepmail to yourself to read it.

That's a very good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

I'll do that and respond. :)

But by your own logic, since Adam and Eve’s fall was a “fall up”, then you must agree that Judas was a true believer because without his actions, the atonement would never have happened.
Do you mean "foul up"?

Your logic dictates that God only had one way of getting Adam and Eve into mortality. That was the fall. That's a very short sighted way of thinking. I can assure you if Eve hadn't have given into temptation, everything would have proceeded just as planned.

Judas had nothing to do with the atonement. It was Christ that atoned for our sins, not Judas.

Just in the off chance you're not claiming Judas is part of the God head, Jesus wasn't hiding from the Romans. They could have just as easily asked any of the Pharisees who He was and they would have gladly pointed Jesus out to them.

Jesus, however knew that Judas would be the one that would identify Him to the Romans. Had Judas chosen not to betray Jesus, the crucifiction would have happened a day or so later.
