Why didn't Jesus Christ teach us about the Cosmos?

Or did he through the Gnostic Gospels? I watched the Gospel of Judas on National Geographic last evening. As in the Gospel of Mary it to focuses on the *Hidden Realm* of GOD, the Stars, the Clouds etc...

One of the most stunning truths imaginable has been hidden so well for the last 2000 years that we have not caught a glimpse of its light until the recently surfaced Gospel of Judas. This gospel suggests, among other things, that all generations of people have sat in judgment of Judas based simply on information given to the masses by the most powerful church on earth. In reading this newly surfaced Gospel, and then reading Bishop Irenaeus' scathing rejection of it in 180 A.D., as well as his scathing rejection of all gnostic teachings (personal knowing of the divine http://www.nationalgeographic.com/lostgospel/_pdf/GospelofJudas.pdf...A Great Read.

Is Gnosticism = to Kabbalah in Judaism? Do they have merit? Some of what was in the Gospel of Judas was where Jesus came from, as the apostles did not know, however Judas stood up and said *I know where you come from*

In looking at the Gospel of Judas (Ioudas) there are two words that are the keys to unlocking an extraordinary mystery. The first key word is, "Barbelo," the word by which Judas identifies Jesus. "I know who you are and where you have come from," Judas says. "You are from the immortal realm of Barbelo."

According to the scholars and editors who worked on the National Geographic translation of the Gospel of Judas, the word Barbelo "apparently comes from Hebrew," and perhaps means God. Others state it remains unexplained, and some suggest it refers to a divine "emanation.

There is so much about this Gospel it can spin your head around, however a couple things that stood out to me was in regards to creation: Then Saklas said to his angels, ‘Let us create a human being after the likeness and after the image.' They fashioned Adam and his wife Eve, who is called, in the cloud, Zoe.[1] - The Gospel of Judas..WHO IS SAKLAS? Could Angels be speaking to GOD about human creation?

JESUS ALSO SPEAKS OF NEBRO (Could that be the Planet Nibru?) and LUMINOUS CLOUDS If we can see that Nebro is Zero or Aries of the 360 degree circle, it is not difficult to see that Saklas is Libra. The Aries-Libra opposition forms the axis of the circle. Out of Nebro (0 degrees Aries) comes 6 'angels' and out of Saklas (0 degrees Libra) come six 'angels'. Once given a few clues, it is not at all difficult to see that Jesus is referring to the signs of the zodiac (6 + 6 = 12). In fact, once given these clues, it would take a strong will to be closed-minded to NOT see reference to the signs of the zodiac. ARE THESE THE CLOUDS JESUS WAS SPEAKING ABOUT, THAT NASA DISCOVERED ABOVE OUR ATMOSPHERE? The crew of the ISS have been observing electric-blue "noctilucent" clouds hovering on the edge of space.

Or is the Comos of GOD beyond most comprehension of human beings?

Agreed, however that is why Science has always rejected GOD and left the Cosmos up to there own interpetation...

Maybe because knowledge of the Cosmos is not relevant to our salvation.

Oh, right. You saw the “story” of Judas on Discovery. Why that makes it all correct doesn't it? We just KNOW that Discovery channel has no hidden agenda. They are pro-Christian right? Sure. Sure.

That was, by far, the worst of the Star Trek movies.

Why didn't Jesus teach us the economics of wine production or the life history of C. elegans?

To those people who say that if God had intended us to wear glasses we would have been born with them, I always say that there was no womb large enough to contain all the things God intended for us to use. That's why he gave us a brain to figure them out as we needed them.

P.S. Jesus did not come to earth to teach us a 10th grade science class. He came here to save our sorry butts from sin. He had a much more important agenda on earth than worrying about whether liberals in 2009 would be wondering why He didn't teach a science class!!!

So the person that betrayed Jesus is really the expert. Hmmm.

You are allowing youself to be led astray. You are confusing the creator with the created. God created everything, including the cosmos. God is outside of anything created.

Jesus (who is God in the flesh) didn’t come from the cosmos or any other place created by God. In fact, the Bible says that all things were created by Jesus. Jesus is the member of the Godhead that created everything (including the cosmos.)

There is a reason these were rejected by early Christians (and even condemed by John in his letters.) They are not accurate and not inspired by God.

Why are you wasting your time with these “gospels” instead of spending time in the Bible?

Bingo. Jesus never taught me how to do my job either. How space and the Cosmos works, or how to write a program in C# is technically outside Jesus Christ's scope of teaching.

Interesting to know, maybe make some living money if you know enough, but not needed when the end comes.

I've read many of the Gnostic texts. They are for the most part just texts that give a rather bizarre view of the early church.

The Romans did pay for the writing of the New Testament leaving us to speculate but when the day is over What we have in that group of writings is very certainly what the true story is.

Then there is the little burr under the saddle blanket, why did the Romans exclude St. Thomas’s journey and subsequent martyrdom in India?

You know, only in an age with the chronological snobbery of today would we look at the Church squelching the Gnostic Gospels as some kind of grand conspiracy.

Tthe Christian Church of Irenaeus was very much a persecuted minority, and they had not the power to squelch anything. They condemned this Gospel of Judas and other works *because they were spurious*. They were inventions of the 2nd century by cultists and had no Apostolic lineage whatsoever. Ask any reputable scholar when they were written...he will be compelled to tell you...well AFTER the Gospels.

The Gospels were accepted because they were used and accepted *everywhere* by the Church. These others books were local forgeries and, if you’ve ever read them, obtuse, confusing, and just plain bizarre ones at that. Where the child Jesus kills playmates that annoy him, for instance.
