When Gov. Alfred E. Smith ran for president in 1928, his candidacy was derailed in large part by anti-Catholic prejudice. It has been nearly 48 years since John F. Kennedy became the first (and so far only) Roman Catholic president, but experts say that anti-Catholic sentiment much of it originating in, or as a response to, immigrants in New York remains an enduring force in American culture.
That was the consensus of a panel assembled at the Museum of the City of New York on Tuesday night to consider the question, Is Anti-Catholicism Dead?
...The Rev. Richard John Neuhaus a leading conservative intellectual, a former Lutheran pastor and the editor of the leading Catholic journal First Things offered a surprising view on the question.
To be a Catholic is not to be refused positions of influence in our society, he said. Indeed, one of the most acceptable things is to be a bad Catholic, and in the view of many people, the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic.
...He added that anti-Catholicism was as likely to come from the left sometimes from commentators who believe that a threatening theological insurgency is engineered and directed by Catholics, with evangelical Protestants merely as the movements foot soldiers.

The church ‘may’not teach it, but Catholics Do believe it.
Judgement isn’t really a wrong spelling. That’s the way I learned it in grade school.
I also spell it judgement. I don’t believe it’s incorrect but probably not the most common spelling these days. Now, in the OLDEN days...
I spell it that way, with an e, as I was taught in grade school. I also spell Saviour with a u quite often.
Praying the Rosary helps. You may not think so. That’s fine and your perogative and perspective. Doesn’t mean you’re right either.
My Mom prayed the Rosary daily for as long as I can recall. She honored Mary as Jesus’ Mother and taught me to do the same. I don’t know of any human being more Christian than my mother, in words, actions. She lived her faith. She was a true role model. You all can laugh and bash all you want and I find it sad for you all that can joke and demean those with such faith.
The hatred on these religious threads, from so called Christians, worries me. We share a commonality, Jesus as our Savior. Maybe it’s too easy to bash other Christians, it’s all the PC rage now, than to highlight our similarities, of which there are many. It’s really no wonder the secular world and Islam seems to have the advantage.

No. You are wrong. You are confused between ascension and assumption. Christ ascended to Heaven, meaning it was He who did it. Mary was taken to Heaven by His action also. She did not ascend, she was assumed.
Another silly mistake proddies make (and other secularists) is thinking that the Immaculate Conception has something to do with Mary becoming pregnant when it actually has to do with Mary being protected from original sin by virtue of Christ’s timeless merits.
Most Catholics realize that proddies tend to be theologically ignorant and misinformed and are most ready to educate others to the Truth. Don’t hesitate to ask.
Not at all.
The assumptions are wrong.
There ARE heresies within the formalized aspects of the RC edifice.
There are more within the practices of a huge chunk of RC’s as individuals.
Of course, there are heresies within every congregation of all Christian brands.
The Catholic Church teaches the Assumption of Mary bodily into Heaven. Only Christ Ascended into Heaven.
Do you get the distinction? One ascends into Heaven under one’s own power, an active verb. But someone or something assumed into Heaven does so passively, by the power of another.
Christ, being God, does so under His own power. Mary, explicitly NOT being God, must rely on a power outside of herself (God) to bodily enter unto Heaven.
Aw heck! You beat me by a minute twenty-two.
You said: Of course, there are heresies within every congregation of all Christian brands.
There are none in the true Church, the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church that are true to what the Church teaches and upholds.
They are manifold outside the Catholic Church. You are correct about that.
None of us here worship the book, BOF. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and we believe the Word of God as written in His Book. It’s not an idol to us.
Excellent posts.
That’s ok, you articulate the theological Truth of Christ’s Church much better than I do...not to mention the theological error of those who oppose Christ’s Church.
This is all much ado about nothing. Change the subject.

Those who are mired in the heresy can’t see it because they are blinded by the deceiver.
Tanks.
Danku!
You said: You’re doing just fine, my brother.
You humble me.
If I am able to witness to the Truth at all effectively it is the Holy Spirit, as I have no ability outside of His Grace.
What DO Catholics have against the Bible? It’s our only true authority and you either ignore it or spin it to say what you wish it to say.
