Italy's favourite saint was a fraud believed former pope

Pope John XXIII believed Padre Pio, the hugely popular Capuchin monk who was canonised in 2002, was a fraud who had "incorrect" relations with women and whose soul was in danger....

Sergio Luzzatto...has also found documents in the Vatican archives suggesting that Padre Pio may have faked his stigmata, the marks of the wounds of Christ, with acid. Vatican officials say both allegations are already well known....

Followers of Padre Pio believe he exuded "the odour of sanctity", had the gift of bilocation (being in two places at once), healed the sick and could prophesy the future.

The 1522 "Testament" reads at Romans 3:28: "So halten wyrs nu, das der mensch gerechtfertiget werde, on zu thun der werck des gesetzs, alleyn durch den glawben."

I wouldn’t call Bernadette incorruptible since she has a layer of wax over her face and hands to hide the effects of decay.

“There are people out there with a terrible hatred of Padre Pio”

It’s one thing to just not believe, it’s a whole different situation to hate. It is easier to begin to believe in a source of love and truth than a source of the opposite for many folks but there is such a thing as real evil. Those who have opened themselves to such hatred for a man who hasn’t done anything remotely wrong from what history can show, must have been exposed to something evil.

I can understand a human being harboring hatred for the likes of Hitler, Stalin etc. I do not believe in the “new age” ideology but I don’t hate anyone who follows such beliefs, the most I might feel would be that they are a little bit whacky.

What has always bothered me about those who attacked this man is that many were “inside” and many could be considered change agents.

Can you speak more than one language?

I do, ironically German. There are certain words that are implied into any translation to get a full sense of what is being said in the original. To do otherwise will result in gibberish, much like the vulgate.

Besides, this part of his translation can be traced back to the influence of the church fathers, before faith alone was dropped by the Roman Catholic church.

Odor of sanctity? Bilocation? Heal the sick? Prophesy the future.

Holy mackerel, it’s Obama!

That rationalization was particularly juicy.

Whatever gets you through the night, I guess.

Can you please show us where the word "alone" was "dropped" from Romans 3:28?

More importantly, if your claim is true, then why haven't any Protestant Bibles added it back? I looked at KJV, NKJV, NIV and Darby, NONE of them had the word alone in that verse.

Here’s a German translation (Elberfelder, I think), that manages to make sense without adding words:

Rom 3:28 Denn wir urteilen, daß ein Mensch durch Glauben gerechtfertigt wird, ohne Gesetzeswerke.

“Judaism has been around for 3320 years yet most Catholics think it’s a false religion.”

No, most think that you just missed the most important part.

“And again, the notion that remaining in a single communion is more important than truth itself is why the Catholic Church today is rotting from the head down.”

The Catholic Church is growing, and will come out of the recent problems stronger. I was at a Jewish burial recently, and it was so devoid of God that my wife and I were saddened. God was mentioned two times in the entire service. But Mother Earth and the Beauty of Nature and wind blowing through the trees were given many lines.

There is something important and deeply missing in your religion. I pray that you and others find it.

Funny how they seem to have managed that.

Bernadette was definitely incorruptible when exhumed 40 years after her death. Unfortunately, the nuns decided to bathe the body before reburial. When it was re-exhumed a decade later, the moisture was found to have discolored the face so a light coating of flesh colored wax was applied. The wax has no effect on preventing corupption, as embalming fluid would.

I’ve already answered that earlier in the thread.

You provided no specific reason as to why you were posting to the forum, a scandalous and inflamatory news article from 9 months ago, using today's date. That is both deceitful and dishonest.

So, as a courtesy to those who have been mislead by this article, I would appreciate an explanation: Why did you choose to post that specific news story on this particular day?

The date of the article is correct. I changed the header to emphasize the age of it which we often do with “flashback” articles.

You know better than that. You know that there are non-Orthodox so-called "branches of Judaism" out there that are not Judaism at all. At least Judaism's liberal heretics left the Orthodox synagogues and started their own phony "branches." Compare this with Catholicism where (because of the stress on unity above all else) they remain inside the Church and won't get kicked out as long as they kiss the Pope's ring. Again, I don't understand why this type of unity is such a great thing.

There is something important and deeply missing in your religion. I pray that you and others find it.

It's a good thing you aren't a redneck Protestant from the rural Heartland, or that would be construed as bigotry, or maybe even--gasp!--proselytizing, which all "right thinking religions" (including Catholicism) reject. I thought only buck-toothed, snake-handling, illiterate Protestants ever engaged in such atrocious behavior.

Maybe Obama will be elected and will simply disenfranchise the bitter people of NASCAR Nation. Then you and the other non-redneck non-Protestants can make this country into a utopia.

LOL, I used to be a redneck Protestant. But I’ve always despised NASCAR. I’m more of a NFL kinda guy but I do sneak some good red wine in every once in awhile while the guys aren’t looking.

If I understand correctly the last time she was exhumed her eyes and nose had begun to deteriorate and her face and hands were turning black. While I understand that wax has no effect at preserving a body - it does cover what is a natural decomposition.
