Why so many LDS threads?
08-May-2008 | Grig

Posted on 05/08/2008 5:04:47 PM PDT by Grig

I am posting this on behalf of many LDS freepers. They will post their own 'signature' to this in the comments below. --- Some of you have noticed lately a lot of LDS (ie: Mormon) threads here on FR. I'm going to tell you why.

For many years there have been several active LDS freepers here. We post to all the forums on relevant issues, and were happy to have a site where conservative values were so openly welcomed.

Those conservative values include faith in God, and freedom of religion. We fully respect the rights of all posters to express their opinions and views on religious matters, even when people choose to use those rights to express criticism of our own faith. We also support the ideas embodied in FR rules against religion bashing. There is no need for hostility and there should be no room for bigotry on FR. Every religion has it's miracles and mysteries. Every faith has things in it that are not or can not be proven, and things that run contrary to what secular science would have us believe. Someone mature and confident in their own faith generally doesn't feel the need to belittle the faith of others.

We have, to the best of our ability, conducted ourselves with civility and dignity. We do not feel that that respect has been returned by some posters (putting it mildly).

When Mormon missionaries were murdered, the moderators were kept busy pulling jubilant posts off the thread. When Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her home, we contended for months with posters who appeared to be motivated by religious bigotry doing all they could to smear the family and accuse the father. Several posters openly admitted their religious motivation in opposing Mitt Romney and confessed that no matter how conservative any Mormon was, they would never vote for one for President of the USA. When the Pope died, I don't think any Mormon poster posted anything unkind, yet the thread about the passing of our President recently needed many comments removed.

Nearly every thread having any connection with Mormons, or Utah winds up being hijacked by anti-Mormon activists who copy and paste the same false accusations over and over even when it has been clearly and factually pointed out to them on multiple occasions that they are bearing false witness against our faith. Everything possible is done by these activists to make FR a hostile place for Mormons, and for at least some of them, bashing Mormonism is all they do here. Their most recent project is trying to blur the fact that the polygamous FLDS is a separate and distinct religion from ours, just as Lutherans are a separate and distinct religion from Catholicism.

In our opinion, such poster do a great disservice to FR and to their fellow freepers by spreading disinformation and promoting hostility towards a people known for walking the walk of conservative values.

Why the moderators here don't see the behavior of these anti-Mormon activists as religion bashing is a mystery to us, but it is the moderators call to make and we respect their right to do so. That doesn't mean we have to be passive however. We have all spent many hours refuting the accusations leveled at our faith, but these wind up buried deep in a flood of comments, effectively shouting us down.

Recently some of us have decided to take a more proactive approach. Rather than try to wrestle the pig into taking a bath, we are just going to hose it down. We will actively define our faith here rather than just respond to accusations.

So expect to see lots of Mormon threads, now and for as long as we see fit to keep posting them (although probably not as many as there are Catholic threads). They will be about our basic doctrines and responses to common accusations. If you want to know what our faith is about, read the articles we post. We will post them as open threads and I encourage you to compare the difference in tone and spirit between what we post and what our critics say.

Christ’s mission was never to the Gentiles.
___________________________________________________

Then all the mormons are without hope, and that was not Christ who came to the Gentile Joseph Smith...

And the Gentile Sevenbak is lost too...

And yet if that was so, why did Jesus healed the servant of the Gentile centurion ???

Mat 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

Mat 8:6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

Mat 8:7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

Mat 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

Mat 8:9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this [man], Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth [it].

Mat 8:10 When Jesus heard [it], he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

Mat 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mat 8:13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. Matthew 8:5-13

And why did Paul write...

Rom 1:16 ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.(Gentile)

Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:16, 17

there hundreds of versions of the Bible and Christians can’t agree on which one is good, better, best . . . or worst.

***************

Good point, although some of the conversations regarding proper interpretation are quite interesting. We are fortunate to have some impressive scholars here on FR.

Na, I'm an amateur, the LDS church doesn't pay people to defend their faith. We also don't pay people to attack other people's faith.

But if you be da top dog, your digs is sure MIGHTY fancy!

Dont worry on my account...

The caution I practice is a strong one...

I denounce the false prophet Joseph Smith and all his vile, unrighteous writings...

I denounce mormonism as the foul, abusive cult that it is..

I believe in Jesus Christ the Righteous, the only begotten son of God...

Jeus Christ is my savior...

I need no man to help me get into Heaven...

jesus died of r me...

There is only one level of heaven and I am going to be there worshipping Jesus the Lamb of God, befoore the throne of God the Father, forever...

And I believe in the Holy Trinity...

Not the mormon trinity...

But the one consisting of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost..

God forbid that I should ever “denounce the Bible”. I shall report you for abuse. “Denouncing” the Bible is blasphemy, a practice I would never even dream of doing. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

In # 914 I said “mormons denounce The Bible as incomplete and add the book of mormon and other secular literature to their religion..”

This is true...there are many threads which contain posts that claim the bom is “another testament”..

You however proceeded to threaten me and were abusive and personal...

In # 920 you said “I should think you’d be a tad bit cautious about this since there hundreds of versions of the Bible and Christians can’t agree on which one is good, better, best . . . or worst.”

I was offended but I let it go at the time...

When I defended myself however, you claim abuse...

It appears you want to dish out the abuse on the heads of Christians wholeheartedly, but cry foul when a Christian answers your insult...

Are you saying that Abe Lincoln and the Civil War don’t have repercussions now because they happened 150 years ago?

Not as much as the plethora of homo child molester Roman Catholic priests who gave Communion, granted absolution, and conducted Mass.(many still do perhaps)

Again, I feel compelled to say this with every post defending Mormons, I love and respect Catholics as Brothers in Christ... and even married a devout Catholic woman and take my kids to Mass frequently. (I was born and raised a fundamentalist Baptist)

I am just astounded as the denial of Catholics who blindly deny the historic atrocities committed in the name of the Catholic Church....

while at the same time snidely pointing the finger at good and decent Mormons.

Nor is the word “mormon” or “polygamy”

Nor is the need for a future “restoration” of the church...

Jesus said if you loved Him you would believe Him and obey Him...

And yet mormons add things, saying that The Bible is not complete..

25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
  27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.

32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

Ignoring, however, is perfectly acceptable.

So is 'interpreting' and

As a Christian, I believe The Bible...The Old Testament and the New Testament..

There is no further “testament”...

The Bible is a complete work...

****

The Bible is a composition manuscripts from various stages if the Lord’s working with the Lord’s anointed servants on earth.

Not all of those manuscripts are included as noted by Bible verses refering to other Books that are not currently present in the Bible.

So it is incomplete!

BIBLE DICTIONARY Lost Books http://scriptures.lds.org/en/bd/l/40

The so-called lost books of the Bible are those documents that are mentioned in the Bible in such a way that it is evident they are considered authentic and valuable, but that are not found in the Bible today. Sometimes called missing scripture, they consist of at least the following: book of the Wars of the Lord (Num. 21: 14); book of Jasher (Josh. 10: 13; 2 Sam. 1: 18); book of the acts of Solomon (1 Kgs. 11: 41); book of Samuel the seer (1 Chr. 29: 29); book of Gad the seer (1 Chr. 29: 29); book of Nathan the prophet (1 Chr. 29: 29; 2 Chr. 9: 29); prophecy of Ahijah (2 Chr. 9: 29); visions of Iddo the seer (2 Chr. 9: 29; 2 Chr. 12: 15; 2 Chr. 13: 22); book of Shemaiah (2 Chr. 12: 15); book of Jehu (2 Chr. 20: 34); sayings of the seers (2 Chr. 33: 19); an epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, earlier than our present 1 Corinthians (1 Cor. 5: 9); possibly an earlier epistle to the Ephesians (Eph. 3: 3); an epistle to the Church at Laodicea (Col. 4: 16); and some prophecies of Enoch, known to Jude (Jude 1: 14). To these rather clear references to inspired writings other than our current Bible may be added another list that has allusions to writings that may or may not be contained within our present text, but may perhaps be known by a different title; for example, the book of the covenant (Ex. 24: 7), which may or may not be included in the current book of Exodus; the manner of the kingdom, written by Samuel (1 Sam. 10: 25); the rest of the acts of Uzziah written by Isaiah (2 Chr. 26: 22).

The foregoing items attest to the fact that our present Bible does not contain all of the word of the Lord that he gave to his people in former times, and remind us that the Bible, in its present form, is rather incomplete.
Matthew’s reference to a prophecy that Jesus would be a Nazarene (Matt. 2: 23) is interesting when it is considered that our present O.T. seems to have no statement as such. There is a possibility, however, that Matthew alluded to Isaiah 11: 1, which prophesies of the Messiah as a Branch from the root of Jesse, the father of David. The Hebrew word for branch in this case is netzer, the source word of Nazarene and Nazareth. Additional references to the Branch as the Savior and Messiah are found in Jer. 23: 5; Jer. 33: 15; Zech. 3: 8; Zech. 6: 12; these use a synonymous Hebrew word for branch, tzemakh.

The Book of Mormon makes reference to writings of O.T. times and connection that are not found in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, or in any other known source. These writings are of Zenock, Zenos, and Neum (1 Ne. 19: 10; Alma 33: 3-17). An extensive prophecy by Joseph in Egypt (which is not in the Bible) is also apparent from 2 Ne. 3: 4-22, and a prophecy of Jacob (not found in the Bible) is given in Alma 46: 24-26. These writings were evidently contained on the plates of brass spoken of in the Book of Mormon (1 Ne. 5: 10-13).

Several misconceptions here I want to clear up. The 'versions' being referenced are in truth 'translations' as most here are unable to read greek or hebrew. Secondly, what is absent here is the mormon blessing upon Joseph Smith's Inspired translation which was suppose to fix all the problems - available at your local lds bookstore.
