I am posting this on behalf of many LDS freepers. They will post their own 'signature' to this in the comments below. --- Some of you have noticed lately a lot of LDS (ie: Mormon) threads here on FR. I'm going to tell you why.
For many years there have been several active LDS freepers here. We post to all the forums on relevant issues, and were happy to have a site where conservative values were so openly welcomed.
Those conservative values include faith in God, and freedom of religion. We fully respect the rights of all posters to express their opinions and views on religious matters, even when people choose to use those rights to express criticism of our own faith. We also support the ideas embodied in FR rules against religion bashing. There is no need for hostility and there should be no room for bigotry on FR. Every religion has it's miracles and mysteries. Every faith has things in it that are not or can not be proven, and things that run contrary to what secular science would have us believe. Someone mature and confident in their own faith generally doesn't feel the need to belittle the faith of others.
We have, to the best of our ability, conducted ourselves with civility and dignity. We do not feel that that respect has been returned by some posters (putting it mildly).
When Mormon missionaries were murdered, the moderators were kept busy pulling jubilant posts off the thread. When Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her home, we contended for months with posters who appeared to be motivated by religious bigotry doing all they could to smear the family and accuse the father. Several posters openly admitted their religious motivation in opposing Mitt Romney and confessed that no matter how conservative any Mormon was, they would never vote for one for President of the USA. When the Pope died, I don't think any Mormon poster posted anything unkind, yet the thread about the passing of our President recently needed many comments removed.
Nearly every thread having any connection with Mormons, or Utah winds up being hijacked by anti-Mormon activists who copy and paste the same false accusations over and over even when it has been clearly and factually pointed out to them on multiple occasions that they are bearing false witness against our faith. Everything possible is done by these activists to make FR a hostile place for Mormons, and for at least some of them, bashing Mormonism is all they do here. Their most recent project is trying to blur the fact that the polygamous FLDS is a separate and distinct religion from ours, just as Lutherans are a separate and distinct religion from Catholicism.
In our opinion, such poster do a great disservice to FR and to their fellow freepers by spreading disinformation and promoting hostility towards a people known for walking the walk of conservative values.
Why the moderators here don't see the behavior of these anti-Mormon activists as religion bashing is a mystery to us, but it is the moderators call to make and we respect their right to do so. That doesn't mean we have to be passive however. We have all spent many hours refuting the accusations leveled at our faith, but these wind up buried deep in a flood of comments, effectively shouting us down.
Recently some of us have decided to take a more proactive approach. Rather than try to wrestle the pig into taking a bath, we are just going to hose it down. We will actively define our faith here rather than just respond to accusations.
So expect to see lots of Mormon threads, now and for as long as we see fit to keep posting them (although probably not as many as there are Catholic threads). They will be about our basic doctrines and responses to common accusations. If you want to know what our faith is about, read the articles we post. We will post them as open threads and I encourage you to compare the difference in tone and spirit between what we post and what our critics say.
The man is an ex-Mormon who was in the Bishopric, wed in the Los Angeles temple, went to BYU (along with his wife), did a stint as a Mormon missionary, served as a home teacher in the LDS church, also served as an elder's quorum president, and the Stake High Council.
He isn't "mistaken" or a "liar."
The 3rd alternative (which perhaps you don't want to face) is that he is telling the truth about the LDS church, and the truth about his new relationship with Jesus Christ.
You sure did!
And it did NOT back up your claims.
Your "quote" THIS time didn't do it either.
You must think no one actually READS your stuff!
Paul said anyone who changed the Gospel of an eternal inheritance with Christ as the reward for faithfulness, they would be accursed,
Paul said that anyone who denied that Christ was an heir of God would be accursed.
I like how they were Off to Kolob around 1:30 timeline!
Sorry; but Nephi 14 doesn't ring true to me.
Hi there Mr. Pot!
Got yer waders on now?
NO one who has left the Loving Embrace® of the CoJCoLDS EVER tells the truth about their experiences or learnings while a memeber.
Ever...
EVER EVER EVER!!!!!!
--MormonDude(An THAT's the TRUTH!)
Just like none of us ever tells the truth about our wonderful experience with the baptists (Thank you, Lord for leading me out of that den of iniquity).
Nice try, DU, but the statement above directly challenges my testimony FROM GOD.
I challenged your anti-testimony of the Book of Mormon, not a testimony of Jesus. If I had indeed challenged your testimony of Jesus, then I would be in peril as well.
my logic still stands about your "testimony", and you never did answer the questions
As to answering questions, why would I even consider answering charges regarding my personal relationship with God from someone who has NO authority to charge, question OR challenge?
Look to your OWN "peril" as a follower of a charlatan instead of a follower of Jesus.
This exchange beautifully illuminates the hypocracy of the mormon's "challenge" to read the BOM and pray about it", by showing the attitude of mormons towards those who pray, study and receive a warning from the Holy Spirit about their false "scripture" being sold to the world.
Mormons consider them to be liars if they don't receive the message that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God.
Some "challenge" that is!
So these basic concepts are not taken for granted, they are understood in truth and meaning as God intended them for the historic church. What is not understood is the mistaken interpretation made by the LDS. It is understandable why there would be misconceptions on the part of Christians over their interpretations, they are incorrect and do not match God's actions or words from the beginning of time.
It's the third alternative...that you fail to see.
And you wonder why Christians oppose mormonism, and you.
Part of their strategy my friend is to continue bringing the same things up time after time after time. I don't know that there are many things in this 48 pager that haven't been said before, & many times over. Unless you just want to copy & paste any number of previous answers given on many, many occasions, I would just let this one go. You nailed it right on the head, it's filibustering, on a grand scale.
If you were to respond w/ a post w/ the length needed, you would undoubtedly drill them yet again, then they would just come back & attack you for your verbosity again. I think folks here that have been following can see the hypocrisy on their side.
There is a clear view of what their all about. I appreciate the time you've taken & believe you have served the Lord well. Go spend some time w/ your family & have a great weekend, get away from the negativity that these guys generate. I don't know how these folks can spend so much time day after day wallowing in so much negativity. They rarely, if ever, spend good positive time preaching what they believe w/o attacking others here.
It must be a very sad existence for them. That's why I don't spend that much time w/ them, too much of a downer w/ so called “Christians”. As I read the scriptures, their methods of teaching are not what Christ taught. Have a great weekend my man.
Pot, meet kettle!
Whine...whine....I guess some haven't bothered to read the original post in this thread.....
"Recently some of us have decided to take a more proactive approach. Rather than try to wrestle the pig into taking a bath, we are just going to hose it down."
What was it you said, Reno...."It's never about principles w/ these folks, just strategy, tactics, & the win??
...maybe SOME folks ought to start taking their own advice!
Indeed...
That is what I love about irony, it is so ironic.
Some will receive a burning in their bosom, some will receive a different answer, it's not a fixed formula. My answer was not subjective, it was very concrete, unmistakable and specific. I never tell you ho for a reason. You and "the posse" make so much fun of, deride and belittle what on earth could possibly tempt me to tell you something that I hold most sacred, what, are you going to offer to make that worth it?
Paul was not ashamed to testify about his experience.....
I have told you all you need to know, I have testified of Jesus, which proves I am of God, I have encouraged all to pray about not only what I say, but whether or not to do what I say (red the Book of Mormon and pray)
Yep, standard formula recited ad nauseam. Your Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible - you have placed your faith in a false spirit.
The antis slander and ridicule, scratch and fight, name call, lie (it's for the lord) and in all ways try to make even discussing it with them so distasteful as to chase people away, and when some kind hearted non Mormon steps up and calls an anti on it antis attack them! Anti's behavior here has thoroughly shown their true natures and it's not a pretty picture
Heaven forbid to try to lie for the Lord, that is a doctrine mormons have cornered. Disgusting and distasteful - better speak to your mormon bro OMM about that. And of course, your bloviations here are great examples of mormon obfuscation.
Going boldly, dontchaknow
Really? What posts and threads have you been reading?
I can give you links to post, after post, after post of Christians here who posts bible verses, give their testimony about a personal relationship with Christ, and talk about God's own words in scripture about false teaching.
It's never about principles w/ these folks, just strategy, tactics, & the win. It doesn't matter whether they're right our wrong, it's just about winning.
That sounds like an indictment of the posts from LDS Freepers like restornu, Old Mountain man, and Saundra Duffy.
