I believe the Orthodox refer to this as the Anastasis. It is a beautiful theological construct and the iconography is amazing.

This icon, called "The Anastasis" is from the apse of the arekklesion (funerary chapel) of the monastery of Chora at Constantinople. The theology taught by this icon is the quintessence of The Faith. Triumphant Christ is risen and stands over the shattered gates of hell, wherein the Evil One lies bound amid now useless locks, as He raises Adam and Eve from their tombs. Kings David and Solomon with +John the Forerunner watch from the left as Abel, the Protomartyr (and prototypos of Christ) along with other OT figures watch from the right. This icon for us teaches the ultimate Truth. "Christ is Risen and you O Death are annihilated."

A Blessed and Holy Pascha to you and yours, St.AG!

Me, too! This year will be the first time in at least a decade that my husband and I have been able to go to the Vigil together. Our Spanish choir will do a couple of songs while the newly-baptized catechumens are changing their clothes.

Unfortunately, our pastor doesn’t like to use the full set of Old Testament readings and psalms, so we’ll read them at home during the day.

Dear Salvation,
Just want to thank you for your DAILY faithfulness to post all these things for all of us. Thank you sooo much! Please know they are huge blessing even though you do not often get a response.

May He grant you and your family a blessed Easter in Him where His touch, His grace, His love and His presence are increasingly palpable. Happy, blessed Resurrection Day to you!

Thank you for all the Catholic teachings you post!

As stated before, you might not get many responses, but rest assured it is being read and having a great impact.

Such as reading this one today. The good Lord has led me to read this, on the very day of my FIRST Easter Vigil and Baptism!

May God Bless you and your family today and forever and ever!

A group of us stayed until 2AM this morning decorating the Church for Easter Vigil.

It is just beautiful with a life size statue of the Risen Christ above the altar.

I hope that you have as much joy as I did during my first Easter Vigil.

Converting has been the best decision I have ever made in my life.

One other thing, get involved, it really does help to strengthen your faith.
