Jim McGreevey, the nation's first openly gay governor, is returning to the classroom Tuesday as a seminary student.
The former New Jersey governor will begin full-time studies at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in Chelsea, where he will pursue a three-year Master of Divinity program.
McGreevey, 50, switched denominations from Roman Catholic to Episcopalian earlier this year and has expressed an interest in becoming a priest.
"I hope that Jim McGreevey finds some contentment and satisfaction in his new role as an Episcopalian priest," said Tom Giblin, the Democratic Party chairman during McGreevey's run for governor.
"He had an ability to heavily connect with all different types of folks ... that should be of enormous benefit in his new role."
McGreevey has up to a year to choose a specific course of study, but the program is designed for students preparing for life in the ordained ministry.
McGreevey shocked the nation in 2004 by declaring himself "a gay American" in a nationally televised speech with his stunned wife and parents at his side.

“I hope that Jim McGreevey finds some contentment and satisfaction in his new role as an Episcopalian priest,” said Tom Giblin, the Democratic Party chairman during McGreevey’s run for governor.
I hope Jim McGreevey takes some step to make amends to the people he placed at risk of grave danger while getting his rocks off, instead of making himself a poster child for “Gay America”.
What Rest Stop on the Jersey Turnpike is he going to set up shop at?
"Heavily connect"? What does that mean, exactly? Does it require a wide stance?
“I hope that Jim McGreevey finds some contentment and satisfaction in his new role as an Episcopalian priest,” said Tom Giblin, the Democratic Party chairman...”
This guy thinks the priesthood is all about contentment and satisfaction. Like changing a job. Or maybe a lifestyle. Or sexuality. Or...
Eh. Pride and selfishness.

No, he didn’t: He got busted by the Israeli agent whose pants he tried to get into by giving him the Homeland Security position to.
By the time he announced himself “a gay American,” his resignation was already required of him.
You mean "What Rest Room at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church..."
He may have many choices!
Our gain, your loss.
A reverse journey.
As if the poor Episcopal Church doesn’t have ENOUGH problems!
He’ll fit right in there.
Is the Episcopal Church truly so far gone that they would let this come to pass?
It is one thing to accept homosexuals into the priesthood -- not a pretty or a wise thing, IMO -- but it is entirely another thing to accept a man who was corruptly using his position to advance his sexual interest at the expense of the safety and security of his state.
And this redemption thing that now seems to happen instantly when an evil-doer is exposed...this is crazy.
I'd guess that his admission to the priesthood would make the split in the Episcopal Church utterly beyond hope of reconcilliation. But maybe it is already...perhaps those who know about such things can comment.
Crossing the Styx?
Our gain, your loss.
He sinned like he did as governor while STILL calling himself a Roman Catholic? --THAT was too close for comfort.....good luck to the Episcopals. -and prayers!
What a travesty!

Speak the truth in love. Eph 4:15
Um, yeah. Hey, they accept as a bishop a fellow, Sprong, who denies Christ. What's a little homosexuality compared to that?
